Our local health centre has a couple of GPs and a number of nurses, and although obviously I do my best not to go there, they have always managed to keep me well when I've needed their services. The building is supposed to be too old and inadequate for the future of the Centre but it seems fine to my eyes. It's never full, and doesn't seem at all shabby. Nevertheless, there are plans to relocate, and I hope they can do this without disrupting the services too much (or losing the Centre altogether - that would be awful).
The appointment system has become a bit like ringing a bank, with a series of recorded messages to negotiate, and I think that's a shame. I'm also a bit unsure about the introduction of a nurse to take the place of the GPs on certain days - but those changes probably apply to a lot of other Health centre across the UK. I'm just very glad we have a doctor here in town at all. read more
