Great hotel and restaurant right on the Lake with the best location in Hallstatt. While our room didn't face the lake, it was large, had all the amenities that you would want like large towels and toiletries, and a super comfortable bed that had me wishing for a nap the second we walked in. Several others in our group got rooms facing the lake and some had balconies! We had lunch out on the dock in the back with was a great place to enjoy a glass of wine, a salad and to just wile away the afternoon. Make a reservation or you will be disappointed, although they do give preference to people that are staying in the hotel which is how we got to have lunch out there. There are umbrellas that they will adjust for you if the sun is too intense. I also ate at their indoor restaurant and had fresh trout that was just delicious! We also had a local dessert which was like pieces of dough and applesauce, but whatever they call it- I hope you aren't cutting back on carbs cuz it was delicious! We ended up here by accident and it turned out to be a great thing. The suite has the most lovely balcony with lakeview and a really fun bathroom. The room was comfortably appointed. Common areas are comfortable, tasteful and altogether lovely. Dinner at the restaurant was a treat and the breakfast is really great. This is a wonderful, safe choice for your stay in Hallstatt. read more

Service was horrible. Food was even worse. But the view was spectacular. There are so many other places around this area that have better food and nicer waiters for a better price range. It was a bit overpriced for what you get and not a great dining experience. If you want to come here for a drink and the views they do have a bar, although I did not see high tables. read more

When I was researching where to stay in Hallstatt, I originally was trying to stay at another hotel. The other hotel was recommended as THE place to stay, due to its location right at the water. That other hotel was fully booked, so I booked this hotel. I have NO idea why that other one was rated higher due to location because the other one was NOT on the water, it was separated by a parking lot. Seehotel Grüner Baum, however, IS right along the water. It had the most spectacular views from the hotel. The dining area overlooks the water and you could even go on an outdoor patio at the water. My room was overlooking the main square, which is another plus over the other hotel, which was on the outskirts of the main city. The customer service from the human workers was amazing, as everyone was so friendly and helpful. The feline, however, was the friendliest part of their staff. read more

My aunt and I had booked a stay here four months before visiting and we're very much looking forward to staying in Hallstat. We were traveling from Vienna to get to Hallstat which is a long distance from Vienna. We went to check in and leave our luggage with the concierge and they assured us that everything was OK. However, when we went back to check into our room around 5 PM the concierge, let us know that they had to unfortunately canceled our reservation due to bedbugs. The manager told us the lady at the concierge desk did not want to tell us earlier that our reservation had been canceled because she felt bad to tell us. This left my aunt and I in a complete frenzy as we are not from Austria and being two women in a foreign country. There were no other options for us to stay. And I don't exaggerate when I say there were no other options for us to stay in Hallstat, it's a small town and it was New Year's Eve. It was completely terrifying for us to figure out where to stay or what to do. We did not know the surrounding area or how safe it was so we booked what was available and prayed we would be ok and thank God we were. Seehotel did not offer any complementary stay or dinner at a different hotel which is usually what hotels of a higher tier would do, instead we had to call American Express to help us find accommodations for that night. The waitress at their restaurant saw us frantically trying to make a new reservation and felt bad for us. She said this happens all the time and felt frustrated for us. We ended up staying across the lake in Obertaun. Seehotel could've handled the situation in a more professional manner, but instead washed their hands clean of our situation and the manager went home early for New Year's Eve while we were trying to find accommodations. It really left a sour taste in our mouths. I understand small businesses in small towns don't operate like larger chain hotels, but I would recommend Seehotel having back up plans for your guest in case of situations like this or letting your guest know as early as possible so that they can make accommodations appropriately. Hallstat has gained increased popularity in recent years so to meet the demand of this Seehotel Grüner Baum should adjust accordingly. read more

Hallstatt...one of the most beautiful places on Earth you've never heard of. For my usual travel budget, this was a spurge at €377 total for 2 nights, but this was so worth it! This is probably my favorite hotel ever. PROS: -Extremely close to the boat dock easy access. -Giant room with mini balcony. -Giant bathroom -Fridge, tea kettle, and daily snacks provided. -Lots of bathroom freebies: razor, comb, tooth brush, slippers and more. -Breakfast included, and its a fancy and delicious breakfast buffet! Normally €18 person. -Restaurant is probably the best in town, and not too expensive: €67 total for two soups, two entrees, and 2 drinks. Make a reservation! -Small lounge area on the dock if you want to swim in the clean cold lake. -Friendly and hardworking staff CONS: -Its an older hotel with some creaks, but it well maintained. The old Austrian royalty used to stay here, including Queen Sisi. read more

Seehotel's restaurant not only has great food and service but also an unbeatable view of Lake Hallstatt. We stopped in for lunch the other day and had such a wonderful experience. First off, the servers are so friendly and attentive. Secondly, the food was incredible! We shared the tagliatelle bolognese and the garlic shrimp spaghetti. Both......fantastic!! Lastly, the view from the lakeside patio is amazing. Also, you should call ahead to reserve a table, even for lunch, as this place is very popular and we saw many people get turned away for not having a reservation. read more

This a review for the restaurant. I've eaten here twice during 3 visits to Halstatt. It has the best view in town right on the water, in one of the most scenic places in the world. I was quickly seated and given a delicious plate of fresh bread. I've had the fresh lake trout which is amazing, and another dish I can't remember that was also amazing! The desserts were out of this world! The attention to detail with the high quality ingredients and unique flavors are exquisite, and in the US this would probably rank as a 2 star Michelin experience, in Austria it's just par for the course. Prices are reasonable considering the amazing views and quality. Highly recommend it when visiting Halstatt, and I wouldn't dine anywhere else while in town because the food here is perfection!! read more

Absolutely wonderful hotel in the heart of Hallstatt overlooking the market square. While the building dates back to the 18th century, the interior is classic and traditional on the ground floor, the upper floors are tastefully modern with the basics and then some. read more

Came here for lunch. It was going to rain on that day, so even though we had made a reservation for dinner, we decided to go here for lunch. Thankful that we were able to sit right at the water without a reservation. Beauuuutiful view. Ordered lamb, and we got maybe a hand palm's worth of meat. That and a large charcuterie. Good quality, wish there was more food but we were actually quite full after the meal. For the view, I don't think the meal was that pricey (maybe spent ~$80 for lunch including drinks and tip). read more

If your are looking for the best place to enjoy a meal in Hallstatt look no further. The hotel has lakeside seating which is the best in Hallstatt...actually the "only" lakeside seating in the village. Highly recommend requesting a reservation in advance. Ask for "Lake Terrace" restaurant and seating. We enjoyed a lunch reservation in July of 2022 and were directly on the water. The table had an umbrella which provided shade and helped immensely. The food and service were top quality. We are a family of 6 with children ages 13-20 and everyone enjoyed their meal. The waitress was fantastic and offered recommendations which were spot-on. read more

Hallstatt, while beautiful, is rather unkind to tourists traveling solo. Doesn't matter if you want to eat a full meal and drinks -- this place doesn't want your business. (This is typical in Hallstatt - even if they have a table open they send you away in favor of a larger party.) I arrived at 11:30am to an empty dining room and was told basically no since I wasn't in a group. I offered to sit at the available table for 2 at the bar... Nope! Wow. In fairness I went to reception to ask to see a manager as I feel that's only fair before I post something negative. I choked back tears (Hey - I'm a softie!) and told them they were rather unkind and it wasn't nice. Don't bother.... A fairytale stay at this remarkable hotel! We had a fabulous several day visit at what is easily the nicest and most famous property in Hallstatt. Very helpful multi-lingual staff, boutique B&B-like rooms, reasonable rates, and a terrific high-end restaurant with moderate prices (we ate there twice). No air conditioning, so the hot July & August months are not ideal times to stay. But, if the weather is moderate, I doubt a better property exists in the village. Due to the physical location, and in order to maintain the pedestrian village feel, Hallstatt requires that all hotels in the area have off-site parking. The uphill public lots are insanely busy, so getting a parking space can be challenging. Once parked, the hotel provides a convenient shuttle service during limited hours. The parking situation did not spoil our stay, but it did take us an extra hour to actually arrive at the hotel. Also, the shuttle does not begin until 9am, so our planned early departure to Vienna was delayed by three hours. All in all, a minor glitch in an otherwise wonderful stay. As an interesting aside, China has built a recreation of Hallstatt, so this location is extremely popular with Chinese tourists who wish to see the real thing. Day-trip buses from Munich and Vienna stream into Hallstatt, so things can quickly get crowded in this little village from roughly 11 to 4pm. The Seehotel and its excellent restaurant offered us a very pleasant sanctuary from much of the clamor outside. As an alternative to the peak season crush, the Christmas holidays in Hallstatt should offer a picture postcard vacation stay. We would love to come back again and can highly recommend the Seehotel. It is right on the water at this fabulous UNESCO destination... yup, it's the golden yellow hotel in all the photos. read more

This was by far the most picturesque hotel I have ever been to. It is located directly next to where the ferry to Hallstatt drops you off, and the views from our room were incredible. The restaurant for dinner was alright, but the incredible views, pleasant staff, and well-appointed rooms definitely made up for it. The staff was kind enough to concierge our bags after we checked out so we could do a bit more shopping before we left town without having to haul our luggage with us. If you are looking for the perfect combination of convenience and beauty, this is the hotel to stay at in Hallstatt. read more

The room was very nice and so was the staff. However, if you wish to sleep through the night, do not book a city or town square room. Some dude likes to get up at 4am and start moving carts of goods through the 17th century cobble stone streets causing a terrible noise to disrupt all sleep for anyone with a window facing the city square and fountain. It was terrible. I had a second story balcony town view and I wanted to yell at him multiple times from 4am to 6am. Just get a lake view and it will be nice. Also, there are a ton of Asian travelers that all check out at the same time because they are on a tour bus, so get there early. The hotel puts one person there to check people out, and it takes forever. So if you wish to check out early and get to your car which is parked a mile away, get out by 9. That should get you to your car by 10. read more

A fantastic location with great views (no matter your room) right in the middle of Hallstat. Friendly staff, comfortable and very clean rooms, with a nice breakfast (coffee was awful though for an Austrian hotel.) An easy 5 minute walk from the Hallstat rail station boat, and a small Spar is almost across the street. There was more English then German spoken in the hotel, and though I was speaking German, the hotel staff seemed to prefer English... Lots of tourists made the square quite loud, but we faced the water and were not bothered by this. If I ever have guests who want to visit Hallstat, I would stay here again. read more

This review is for the restaurant only as we have not stayed at the hotel. We are currently waiting on a caprese salad and and grilled salmon. It has been an hour and a half and they didn't even bring bread. We had to ask for it and they weren't even nice about it. They haven't even brought us our silverwear and napkins yet. We just asked why it's taking so long and the waiter was being a jerk about it. Terrible! The two stars are only for the lake view! But service doesnt even get one! Hallstatt is possible one of the most beautiful little towns in the world. We stayed in the Superior Suite. AMAZING! The hotel itself is a historical landmark and has been refurbished with great care to preserve the history and charm. The reception was wonderful. We arrived earlier than our check in, but the room was ready and they got us right in. The rooms in the suite were well appointed, comfortable and stylish, but nothing can out do the amazing deck overlooking Lake Hallstatt. A morning I'll never forget - sipping a hot espresso next to my daughter on the double lounge swing as we watched the sun rise over the mountains on the lake. Absolutely breathtaking. read more
