This kulinarium is definitely an interesting place to visit, mostly because of the setting. Part of the restaurant hall is built into the historic cave, which gives it a unique atmosphere you won't find in many to none places here in Salzburg. Unfortunately, the customer service was the biggest disappointment of the evening. One waitress seemed to deliberately avoid speaking the language the guests were using, only to later reveal that she actually speaks six languages. Not exactly the kind of interaction you expect from a place of this reputation. Another waiter was running around trying so hard to be helpful and pleasing that he seemed to forget what his actual purpose was... sad. Toddlers policy needs to be enforced as sometimes it makes it uncomfortable when the little ones are shouting and crying. Food was a mixed experience. The prawn paella was nothing particularly memorable, while the deer was surprisingly good - juicy, tender, and easily the highlight of the meal. The wine selection felt a little on the lower side for the price level. The dessert wines, including the port and Riesling ice wine, were left behind as they didn't at all impress. The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise - very cute, modern, and automated. Overall, an interesting location and something worth experiencing once, but considering the prices and the service, it felt a little overpriced for what was delivered. Had a chance to try St Peter while in Salzburg and this was a fun experience. We went the week before Christmas and what I really enjoyed was all the fun decorations they had - the interiors were so lively and well lit! As the oldest (not continuously running) restaurant on google I knew when I saw it I had to try it out. The service here was really good and for food we tried: *Bread with caramel butter - this was really yummy and the butter Had a nice hint of sweetness to it that i loved *Boiled beef - this was recommended as a traditional Austrian dish and it came with creamed spinach, a bread custardy thing and au jus. This was a very hearty warm dish and was fun to try * Risotto - this came with shrimp and mussels and was my favorite of the two. Don't trust the reviews. They must buy them. The service is subpar. The bread is over cooked and dense and doesn't live up to Austrian standards. The Japanese Wagyu came out overcooked and they would not even correct it when I asked to have it corrected. They served it with a Hollandaise sauce and covered the Wagyu in salt . It's like they were trying to hide the flavor which should speak for itself. The ambience and location are fairly spectacular in an ancient location but everything else was disapponting. read more

This was our favorite meal in our week in Austria. The restaurant is modern and fun in a really old environment (it's supposedly the oldest restaurant in Europe but I didn't dig too far into how or if this is proven because even if it isn't true, it's still absolutely worth coming here). The food was delicious and unique, the ambiance was, again, just really fun. We went at a really odd hour (2pm on a Wednesday) because we heard it gets booked and is hard to get a table without a reservation so we just went as soon as we arrived in Salzburg and were able to snag a table right away. Despite the timing the restaurant was still buzzing. We had a few drinks (all the cocktails we had were amazing) and in general had a great time. Came here on our last night in Salzburg to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. It was THE BEST meal I had while visiting. We started off with a couple of cheeses (Voralsberg, a chablis cheese, and a roquefort) and the bread service. We skipped getting any apps. For entrees, I got Pete's roast beef and my husband got the schnitzel and the risotto. The roast beef was absolutely amazing. The red wine gravy reduction was to die for. The roast beef was so tender and flavorful. The mashed potatoes were thick and creamy. I savored every bite and was so happy to have leftovers to enjoy the next morning. My husband liked both of his dishes. They were prepared simple but delicious. The risotto was very different with the blackberries. And the parmesan chips were pretty cool too. A little difficult to find because it's in a small section of the square, but we asked around and found it through a small entryway. Wow! The decor is absolutely amazing and very modern with pop culture vibes. Knowing this is one of the oldest restaurants IN THE WORLD piqued my curiosity and we could not leave without stopping in. The beer was beer. Served in a beautiful glass, and cold. But the dessert that is nothing but meringue designed to pay homage to the three largest mountain in their region was mind- blowing. Amazing to eat in undoubtedly my oldest restaurant in my experience ! The atmosphere is unmatched, and as we sat in grotto cut out of the mountainside, the room was rich with history! The interior is a little tacky and gives off Miami vibes. It's cute and fun but not really what I imagined the inside to look like. I would've liked it to be more classy and traditional but I guess lawn chairs and gorillas coming out the walls are good too. It took a good 5 min for a host to come and help us get seated. So this is a really nice high-end restaurant that also does dinner concerts. We attended the dinner concert and we're NOT disappointed. The concert's Prix Fix menu was quite good although the dessert was not to our family's taste (Salzburger Nöckerln - none of us are crazy about meringue). But it was very made - just not our style. At least I can say I have ties this local dessert now! Service is over the top friendly and attentive. The wine list is out-of-this-world. It's the "shiznit" as Snoop Dogg would say. Luckily I am fluent in German and know wine. But be aware the wine list is more like a book. I cannot even imagine the size of their wine cellar! We really enjoyed the homemade bread served with a variety of butters and afterwards I had roast chicken with creamy polenta and roasted vegetables which was delicious!
