Went in for a hot drink. It is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Lots of photo opportunities. The church next door is beautiful.

We were told the oldest restaurant in Europe (since 803), we were part of a group that had dinner in more of banquet room. The food and service were good. We had a quartet do a Sound of Music skit. We would really like to try the actual restaurant.

Eating lunch in the oldest restaurant is pretty cool! Each room was decorated beautifully for the holidays. Portions weren't huge. Service was good.

Service was needy but ok, food was obviously small when it was great and large when it was ok. It was loud visually and audibly. Great history.

This was our favorite meal in our week in Austria. The restaurant is modern and fun in a really old environment (it's supposedly the oldest restaurant in Europe but I didn't dig too far into how or if this is proven because even if it isn't true, it's still absolutely worth coming here). The food was delicious and unique, the ambiance was, again, just really fun. We went at a really odd hour (2pm on a Wednesday) because we heard it gets booked and is hard to get a table without a reservation so we just went as soon as we arrived in Salzburg and were able to snag a table right away. Despite the timing the restaurant was still buzzing. We had a few drinks (all the cocktails we had were amazing) and in general had a great time. I don't remember exactly what dishes we got but enjoyed them all.

Cool place and amazing food. Bread and butter homemade was delish Monkfish prepared perfectly. Christmas goose was tender and amazing. The dessert was different- egg whites and a sour base. Holiday decor. Helpful service. Highly recommended and great advent bar next door

Known as "the oldest restaurant in all of Europe." Full marks for historical atmosphere, but the taste didn't live up to the price. A classic tourist restaurant: expensive and underwhelming dishes. Honestly, its a nice setting for photos, but not worth it for the meal. I wanted to try their Mozart dinner and now regret that I didn't. The overall experience was not the best and with room for improvement. Price per person €30-40 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Noise level Loud, but you can still talk Group size 2 people, 3-4 people Wait time No wait

Were here for Mozart dinner, the setting is absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the entertainment the musicians were on point and I found the male singer to be so entertaining. The meal was ok, the dessert left mych to be desired in my opinion, way too sweet for me. Achiuce woukd gave been appreciated. Cost varies depending upon the seating, so be aware.

A little difficult to find because it's in a small section of the square, but we asked around and found it through a small entryway. Wow! The decor is absolutely amazing and very modern with pop culture vibes. Knowing this is one of the oldest restaurants IN THE WORLD piqued my curiosity and we could not leave without stopping in. The beer was beer. Served in a beautiful glass, and cold. But the dessert that is nothing but meringue designed to pay homage to the three largest mountain in their region was mind- blowing. Extremely sweet so they serve it with a very tart raspberry preserves to help keep it balanced. It was delicious and should not not be attempted as a dessert for one! Look around while you are there. Looks the age of the building, you can see the original architecture and it's beautiful.

This restaurant was so unique and beautiful. It is speculated to be the oldest restaurant in the world. The service was great, and our waiter was super helpful upon ordering. Food and drink reviews below! Drink: Raspberry Margarita: 5/5 Delicious and superrr stiff. Food: Bread and Butter: 10/5 Omg. This butter was a gourmet version of Texas Roadhouse's butter. It was so delicious, and so was the bread. Chicken Piccata: 5/5 Delish! The combination of the breaded chicken and pasta with the different red and white sauces was magical. The waiter sold me on this dish upon ordering, and I am glad he did! Desserts: Calamansi Crème Brûlée: 5/5 This had a lemony tang to it and it was so good. Salzburger Nockerl: 4/5 This dessert was wild. A lady eating alone next to our table invited us over to split this dish with her. She used Google translate to tell us she travelled an hour away from home to try this restaurant and this specific dessert because it is famous and only uses 3 ingredients: egg yolk, flour, and sugar. The dessert was delicious, but I could only eat so much. The texture and flavor was a little too unique for me. I did think the Crème Brûlée was better. Overall, this place is a must visit if you are in Salzburg!

Great ambience under the shaded protection of a cliff side and decorative overhangs. Tables are close but separated by small cute trees. Wine list is deep and wide and a great opportunity to try little know Austrian varietals like St Laurent or Blaufrankisch. Prime boiled Salzburg organic beef - tender although appearing well done. Comes with creamy bread horseradish, cream spinach (more like a sauce), apple horseradish and chives sauce. Veal goulash - so glad for this one. Zesty and soul-warming. Served with beech mushrooms and a wonderful red smetana sauce. Spinach spaetzle on the side - I guess everyone has to try once. Don't expect a lot of flavor. Homemade tagliolini Creamy truffle thick glue like consistency. This dish was overbearing and the only one I definitely wouldn't order again. Think: heart attack on a plate. By a sizeable margin, the quality here outpaces all that we tasted and experienced during ten days in a Germany. The service, presentation and cleanliness are outstanding. A highly recommended find!

Amazing to eat in undoubtedly my oldest restaurant in my experience ! The atmosphere is unmatched, and as we sat in grotto cut out of the mountainside, the room was rich with history! Service and the singers who performed standards from Sound of Music were outstanding! The singers were opera level qualified, and their performance was special for our visit. We enjoyed backed chicken with a side of Austrian styled potatoes with Carrots and it was piping hot and arrived quickly! Our dessert were meringues over a think cranberry glaze! Highly recommended!

Some of the major highlights of Fortress Hohensalzburg are the magnificent Princes' Rooms, the Magic Theater on the High Level, the Great Armory in the castle courtyard, the various museums (like the marionette museum, the tower and the historical museum) were all very interesting and detailed. Go up for the breathtaking views over the rooftops of the city. It was really interesting to learn how this fortress had evolved over a period of almost 500 years. If you want to do all, it would take 3-5 hours...it's huge.....

The view from the Observation Tower is spectacular, an alp or two is always good eye candy. We spend about 2 hours wandering around, through the museum and courtyard. Look through every window you find and you can see why this Fortress was impenetrable. Also have a go with the bells on way out and if you have time come back to the bell area at 11.00am to hear the original mechanism working. A final drink and snack in the restaurant will afford those great views once more. We arrived early with few people around. Yes there are a lot of steps but they are well designed and shallow. The way down from the tower is separate to the way up so you don't get blockages. The rest rooms are fantastic just at the end of the Museum.

Yelpers so…read morerecommended this place that we tried to go our first night in town, and were advised that it might be a 30 minute wait -- but the staff *also* told the 7 parties ahead of us that it might be a 30 minute wait for them, too. So we went elsewhere. We went back the next night at an off-hour and while the food was fine, I would have been highly disappointed had we waited in line for 30 minutes, let alone 2 or more hours. This restaurant has a prime location and a strong online reputation. And perhaps our experience was impacted by the fact that we went at an off-hour. Still, there are much better options, with equal character, available across the city. Consider branching out -- and check my other Salzburg reviews for other alternatives.

We came in around 5pm for an early dinner before our train back to Munich and was able to grab a table for 4. We got incredibly lucky because the restaurant really filled up and by the time we left, there was a long line down the block. Of course we had to have their Original Wiener Schnitzel, which was so crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We also had a Salzburger Nockerl, which is a classic Austrian soufflé dessert that is considered a culinary symbol of Salzburg. You do have to order this about 20 minutes in advance, so we ordered it when we made our entree orders. This was really good and honestly, more than enough for our group of 4. I also highly recommend their house beer, which was one of the best beers I had during our 10 day trip.
