They have the best songs and singing group of the three churches nearest to me (St. Clare's, Our Lady of Peace). They also have 12:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday Masses which can be very convenient. The notable thing about St. John the Baptist Church is that the congregation is about 95% Filipino. And the priests are all Filipino, too. There are lots of mentions in the homilies of the priests' lives growing up in the Philippines, and recently there was a collection to benefit the devastion caused by a recent typhoon that hit the country. The people are really warm and friendly, probably the friendliest of the three nearby churches. Once the priest mentioned that the Phillippines had the highest percentage of Catholics of any country in Asia. I had my doubts, so when I got home I looked up East Timor and noted that it had 8% more Catholics than the Philippines. I e-mailed that information to a priest at St. John the Baptist, but he never wrote back. I am such a dork. The homilies are interesting - the priests tell interesting stories - but ultimately aren't as affecting as the homilies at St. Clare's. Be careful parking in the back lot - people box you in with their cars during Mass, so you might have to wait a bit to get out.

On Sundays, Fridays, and Saturdays there are services. Food is provided when appropriate. People here usually speak Chinese, so you would want to learn that language. I go to the Kid's Church, where kids go. We have worship, and classes. The teacher has subjects for us to learn. Everybody here are mostly nice, you can make friends quickly. There is worship, and separate groups. There are also many people who come to speak. Enjoy!

I saw the little blue table out in the corner and I was curious to see what that club was about. The rest was history. Now a senior in college, I can't say I had the smoothest college career. I struggled a lot with my identity and self worth in this world. But this is what this amazing church has taught me. I am a child of God who is worth more than anything of this world. This church helped me to see how amazing God, His love and His family is. I am now able to see how much God has blessed me and the love He has given to me, directly and through the church family. He gave me wonderful pastors, Alice and Jason, who care so much for the church and it is clear that they geatly desire to build God's kingdom and watch His children grow. Alice particularly has reached out to me and has been with me through it all. When I look back I cringe at all the bratty things I had said in the past, yet she continued to guide me though it all. While Jason is always there always watching out for the group, guiding the guys, and making lame jokes. (I'm just kidding Jason your jokes are very funny) Under their guidence they have raised such a great group of college/young adults, my brothers and sister. I know that if there is anything I need help with they would be there. I know that I can lean on them and count on them. They fill my life with laughter and joy. I rejoice when in the body of Christ. In SJCA, I have finally found a home. Praise God.

My toddler was sad he walked away with nothing. The raffle was great a few people won a TV and a scooter. The prayer was also great . They even had the Easter bunny out . The church buildings are elegant and beautiful. Parking near by are all full and they have around 20 traffic controllers ( volunteers) .Indoor there are many ushers to help people to find seats . One day, my son started asking me about what the sign meant. I started to tell him that it's a church and what is written is related to Christianity. After explaining it to him, I asked him if he would like to go visit the church. He said, "Sure." We walked in and we were greeted with a warm handshake (before COVID) and given a flyer. We went inside and there was music and in between, they said to say, " hi," to each other shaking hands, some people even hugged. After the music, the kids went to "Kids Church." So, off my son went to the "Kids Church," in the other building. I stayed and listened to the sermon. After the service, I asked him how he liked it. He liked it. Then, I asked him if he wanted to continue to go. He said," yes." Fast forward, I am now one of the teachers at the "Kids Church." It's a great little church. It isn't like one of those big fancy church where you feel like a fish in the ocean. I've been to those churches in the past. Here, at Berryessa Valley church, we are all FAMILY. Don't believe me? Come by and check it out for yourself. We do offer coffee, tea, water, and of course pastries. We also offer lunch during the Holidays and sometimes if we are celebrating the kids' birthdays. I will forever be grateful to God for the uncompromising preaching from God's Word, loving familial care people within this church have for one another, dedication to raising up godly leaders, and relentless desire this church has for the sanctification of its members to become more like Christ. I really appreciate how seriously our pastors take living out God's Word and effectively teach it to others to also live out and showcase the Gospel and its transforming work to a watching world. Some specifics that showcase these things include but are not limited to: - whenever I have a question from a sermon or just in general, the pastors happily respond thoroughly and Biblically. - After my husband and I had our baby, the church was so quick to ask even beforehand to set up a meal train that provided delicious meals. And the family ministry here has been extremely helpful so we don't feel alone in raising our child in the ways of the Lord. - If I am ever sick or absent for any reason from church or Bible study there are a number of people from the church reaching out making sure I'm doing okay, praying for me, and asking if there is anything they could do to come alongside me. - even during this pandemic, the elders have been vigilant in making sure everyone is doing okay. I could go on, but these are just some of the many examples I have of how God has mightily utilized this church to love and care for me.

My experience was deeply unhealthy and harmful. The leadership is controlling, manipulative, and spiritually abusive in ways that left me (and others I knew) anxious, isolated, and afraid to speak up. I personally saw people who raised concerns get silenced, shamed, or even pressured to "repent" for simply questioning leadership decisions. The toxic culture of control runs very deep. "Disciplers" (spiritual mentors) often insert themselves into areas of members' personal lives where they have no business. For example, trying to dictate whether someone is "allowed" to date, move homes, purchase a house, use family tracking apps, or even play video games. These things were framed as sinful, and anyone who questioned that way of thinking was labeled unsubmissive to church leadership and to God. What makes this worse is how skillfully Scripture was twisted to justify it all. At first it could sound good and convincing, but over time it became clear to me that Bible verses were being taken out of context to control, intimidate, and bully members into compliance. In my opinion, this is not spiritual care, it is spiritual abuse and manipulative bullying disguised as faith. It upsets me most how they target college students, especially at Santa Clara University. Students who are eager to grow and learn can easily get swept up without realizing how controlling and damaging the environment really is until it is too late. There are passages in the Bible that describe the character qualifications for elders and deacons. I believe that the lead pastor at New Life, and the deacons, fail to meet nearly all of the Biblical qualifications. In my view, this is NOT a safe church community, especially for young people or anyone vulnerable. If you are considering New Life, I strongly encourage you to be cautious and to find a church where leadership is transparent, accountable, and genuinely supportive, not coercive.
