I had my hair bleached twice before coming to Sekina. I found her through Groupon where there was an amazing deal for a haircut, balayage, tone, and deep conditioning for only $89. I was able to get an appointment with her the next day and was hopeful that I could get my desired result. In truth, I was looking to get a silver balayage but did not think that I could realistically get my hair to lift high enough to a point where it could actually be toned to silver. My hair became incredibly brassy and the previous stylist left my hair in almost an ombré fashion instead of a balayage. Sekina was very honest and upfront about what she expected the result to be and also let me know about prices for additional services before doing the work on me. When it came to the haircut, she gave me a recommendation for layers because I liked to style my hair with curls and said that it would give my hair more dimension--which was definitely what I was going for. Overall, I was sad that my hair did not lift the way that I would but the whole process that Sekina did to ensure that my needs were satisfied left me feeling well taken care of. I also love the fact that she is basically in a more independent salon in Phenix Suites. I don't really like going into a chain/bigger salon because I always feel as if the stylist is being forced to sell you products and services when you don't really want to buy them in the first place. Being in an independent salon allows Sekina the chance to recommend you products that she believes will work best for your specific hair type without making you feel uncomfortable or pressured into buying it. I will certainly be coming back here for future visits because of the great energy and honest disposition Sekina has. I feel so dissapointed by my experience with Sekina. Against my better judgement, I decided to use a Groupon to get my hair done after not getting it done for several months. I was extremely hopeful because of all of her good reviews however, I felt very dissatisfied with her service. She is a very nice person and I had a great time chatting with her while I was in the chair however, she was unable to give me the color and style I wanted. I understand that it could be difficult to reproduce a color and style as shown in a picture but I had showed it to her before she started and she said no problem that looks really cute. This gave me the impression she would be able to create a style very similar. My hair was 90% virgin hair with exception of very few old face-framing highlights. I felt like she had a very good canvas to work on. Unfortunately, she was so far off from what I wanted that I have to go get it redone. I texted her in less than 24 hours from leaving her salon and discussed my dissatisfaction and she has ignored my texts to go back in and get it redone. Its been 3 days from my last text and still no response. I finally decided just to go to somewhere else because I'm really embarrassed to wait much longer. I personally would not recommend her because of her really poor communication which started when I first tried to make an appointment. I had to text her several times to even get an initial appointment. I have been to other stylists that do a great job but got the color wrong but they have quickly made themselves available to make adjustments so that I can be happy. This did not seem to be her priority. Minus 1 star for terrible communication. Minus 1 star for not giving me the look I asked for. I found her on groupon and was hesitant about going at first, but she is SO talented and 100% knows what she is doing. My hair was super dry after I bleached it a few times. I bought a Groupon and tried to call her. She did not answer and it went straight to voicemail which basically said that I should text her for an appointment. I texted her about an appointment in the afternoon and it took her until night time to reply. I immediately texted her after that and it has been 17 hours or so and she still hasn't replied. I called her one more time but she did not answer. I think if you are running a business and if you are selling groupons, you should be more responsive to your customers. If you are unable to get back to your customers on time, then please don't sell Groupons. I've actually written a review about Sekina before, in 2013!! You'll note that the previous review was 5 stars, and three years later, still 5 stars! Sekina is a supremely talented artist. She really cares about hair, style, and her customers. She really takes the time to listen to you and look at pictures with you so she can deliver the most perfect cut, color, and blow dry ever, every single time. Sekina has an exceptional eye for structure and color, and I have never been so proud of my hair! We've done a bunch of different things, and each time, I have been blown away! Ok if you are thinking of using sekina, stop thinking and just do it. I am someone who never knows what to do when it comes to hair, but Sekina was able to really identify what I was looking for by patiently looking at pictures with me, and pointing out small things that helped me figure out exactly what I was wanting. And here is the craziest part.... I had an emergency come up about an hour into putting in foils and so she was so sweet and so nice about the whole thing. We had to problem solve about how to proceed with the apt as I pretty much had to leave immediately AND I was leaving out of the country that night. she is AMAZING and despite having to leave, she still managed to do what she needed to do so that I walked out looking fabulous. Not the best experience unfortunately. I scheduled my appointment 3 months in advance to prepare my hair for my wedding and a week before the wedding Sekina cancelled my appointment. I rescheduled for a few days before the wedding but I was a little concerned going so close before the big day. When I showed up for my appointment she had me wait for 40 minutes (didn't text me or let me know ahead of time she was running late). Then I ended up with really light platinum blonde highlights where I specifically said I wanted more of a golden blond look. She told me it's just me seeing it lighter in comparison to my root that was getting darker...when I got home and looked in the mirror in the back of my head there were blotchy white spots on my hair and lines from the foils were showing very prominently. I started panicking since it was 3 days before my wedding and texted Sekina immediately. She said she couldn't get me in for a couple days and didn't offer being flexible with her schedule knowing I was super stressed about it and also refused to give me a refund. I was crying all night and didn't know what to do but ended up finding another salon that was willing to get me in the next day before they opened to helped me fix this mess on my head. I would NOT recommend this salon. Both work quality and customer service suck. I usually don't go out of my way to leave negative reviews, but I didn't want anyone else to have to encounter similar issues. Take your business elsewhere. read more
