I went to the Selah Salon Spa to have services from Candy. I drove from Anchorage to Wasilla for Candy to do a facial, and it was worth the trip. This salon is based out of a lakeside residential property with amazing mountain views. The home itself has been converted into a salon with the family room converted into the nail salon, the garage into the hair salon, several relaxation zones serving as waiting areas, and smaller bedrooms for esthetician services such as waxing, facials, and other skin needs. Other small rooms are for massages. Candy has been an esthetician in the valley and in Anchorage for several years, and really knows her stuff. I have wax services with her, and this was my first facial. She customized my service based on what my skin type, novice experience, and needs for bridal make up. Her services are catered to your needs, she is always friendly, and ensures that your experience is what you want it it to be. Her room is set up so it can be relaxing with heated blankets, darkened window coverings, music, and will ask you what you need from her to make your experience what you want it to be. She walks you through each step, and what to expect to feel. I enjoy using Candy for services, and for new experiences because she will always make sure my comfort and relaxation is number one. She truly makes her customers feel like they are gold. read more

I wish no one would ever go to this spa. My son bought me a 100.00 gift certificate and I wasn't able to use it until just last week. So I called to make an appointment and was told that Selah sold out and they are NOT honoring the gift certificates that they have on file. I told the girl on the phone you mean my son is just out 100.00 and her reply was yes. I asked why they didn't contact me to let me know they were selling out so I could get in there to use the certificate. Her reply was well we do t do that.ito.d her I thought that was very bad business. She said that was all she could tell me and hung up. Please don't use this business!!! I am rating based on 5 experiences I've had with getting my hair done here, and the last being the deciding factor for me. I've had my hair cut and colored. Only once did I walk out perfectly happy with what I got. I usually had to go back to have her correct what I didn't like. I only tried one stylist hoping to build up a relationship with her. I liked her as a person, but think she just didn't get my hair type or needed more experience in perceiving what I wanted. But this last time the outcome was pretty horrible. I went in for an ombré, but came out with a terrible color job! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. She did say she wouldn't be able to get my hair as light as what I wanted, but decided on her own that I shouldn't get any toner, saying that she thought the color that came out was "really pretty" and looked "natural". (Not what I had asked for in a picture I brought with me.) (She also had another client while my hair was setting, which made me a little uncomfortable, but she checked me several times to see how my hair was lightening.) When I insisted I didn't like the color she offered to do the toner, but she didn't have time to blow dry it again. I didn't want to walk out not knowing what I got so I decided against. In my after picture, you can see the blunt lines where she did not blend it in to get the ombré look, and they are completely uneven. She also did about 4 inches more than I was expecting. I'm scheduled to get a color correction at another salon, but for another week I'm stuck looking like my hair is growing out from bleaching it. In the end it's really my own fault for going back to the same stylist after being disappointed more than happy, but I really thought the client/stylist relationship would be worth the time investment. Went in for a manicure and an eyebrow wax, I have to say I'm very happy with the results! Defiantly would recommend :)

I came here to get my hair done for my wedding. I showed the hairstylist photos of what I wanted and was disappointed with how my hair turned out. She was super sweet and willing to change things up when I asked her to, but it still didn't turn out the way I wanted it to like in the reference photo I showed her. I had two hair trials with her and we tried different techniques (freshly washed hair, "dirty" hair, lots of hair extensions) and it still didn't look like what I wanted in the photo. I absolutely loved my experience! I went in for a body wrap & massage, 90 mins. Everyone is so friendly, ambiance on point, the service was beyond what I expected. Dana was excellent, she made sure to explain the process of my treatment before & during lightly whisper the adjustment in treatment. I appreciate that, makes it easier for me to transition into the next treatment without being surprised by the change. I would definitely come back when visiting from California. I've been here for massages only. This place is a huge two story house so don't think you turned into the wrong place. Everything is so neat and organized inside. I like deep tissue so go to Eula if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise it looks like a place where the housewives of Orange County would go to Pamper themselves. I've since been back to Selah a couple of times to get my hair cut & colored and I can highly-recommend Aimee to do a good job on your 'do.

I've been going here for years for hair cuts/color, massages, nails, you name it. However this past time I got my hair colored and just had an awful experience. Hailey(Haley?) was my stylist. It was partially my fault because I was reluctant to do more damage than necessary and avoided bleaching the ends- my ends were very blonde already anyway- but the colors came out faded and weren't even close to the colors in the photo I showed her. The yellow turned out lime green and I got hot pink instead of red... I paid the $105 and barely made it out before I was sobbing. After discussing it with my mom I called again and explained that I wanted her to fix it. Came in the next morning and let her bleach the ends and emphasized that I wanted oranges and reds. It still came out a lot more neon than in the photo but I liked it.. until we got up to the counter and they charged me another $109 for bleach/highlight. $214 and ~7 hours in the chair later and I still don't have what I asked for. Very disappointed in Selah considering how many good experiences I've had. Giving them 3 stars in the hopes that this was a freak case. My pictures are ones with "fire" hair. read more

I was given a gift certificate to get a massage at Selah Salon (when I was living in Alaska a while back) and discovered it is the best kept secret in the MatSu Valley. And it shouldn't be! I kept their brochure to remind myself to write a review and have finally gotten around to it. My massage was great, the atmosphere is wonderful, the view out the rest room windows is astonishing. I highly recommend their services. Being so pampered really helps relieve stress. read more

I've been visiting Leanna for my shellac manicures for several months, and love her. I've been to many many salons over the years and have had every result possible for my nails. Leanna is great at doing shellac, she takes it very seriously and has been trained properly. She's also very fun and creative. read more

Not impressed with the pedicures, had way higher expectations. Very limited polish choices, no jets in the water, water wasn't hot. Almost started to paint over dirt on my toenail so I had to wash it out myself. Wouldn't cut a hang nail, so I had to do that myself. And also didn't do much scrubbing/ massaging on my feet. The overall look of the pedicure looks mediocre and isn't worth the high prices. read more

I took my friend there for a manicure in October for her Birthday. We both got one and paid a hefty sum. They did not even do the basics like the cuticles. We both walked out of there very unhappy with grit under our nails and polish on our fingers. I did not say anything then because it was her Birthday and I did not want to ruin her day. This spa has a lot going for it, it was very clean, staff was friendly and obliging. The views were breath taking and large windows let in lots of natural light. I took my girls to get a manicure and pedicure. They failed to clean under nails and did not finish the nail buffing correctly. There was also no where to finish drying nails. My nails had literally just got there last coat of polish and I was told I was done. I was then rushed out of my seat and my nails where not dry for another 20 minutes the entire manicure was ruined. read more

My review is based upon three experiences. I did not review services here before, but feel that I must do it now. The first time I had my hair cut and colored. At that same visit, I had makeup applied as a practice session for my son's wedding. The hair turned out pretty good, but the highlighting was a little off, but I overlooked it anyway. When I returned from having the makeup, I looked in the mirror and thought I could've been put straight into a casket. Back waiting for my rinse out, the stylist also commented that it was a very flat matte look. It was just practice, so I wiped it all off before leaving. The second and third visits were for standard pedicures. Pricing is higher than other strip mall places so you would expect to pay a little more here. The first time I had a pedicure, it was more like having a quick soak and having my nails painted. The second time I had a pedicure my nails did not even look the same from left foot to right foot and the old base coat had not been completely removed. In one week, the polish was chipping off. If you have ever had a real Spa experience, it is quite different. Just calling a place a spa, doesn't make it so. I will go back to the strip malls where I get excellent pedi's. I don't need to feel good about where I am having services when they get it done right. I won't be back. read more
