After consulting with him, he captured an x-ray of the area and the problem was visible if not obvious. He applied a variety of "stretch & crack" techniques to reduce pain and increase mobility. After 3-4 sessions the pain was drastically reduced, including when sitting in uncomfortable positions that would otherwise be almost unbearable. My main mistake is not regularly seeing him professionally, as the issue returns after high intensity activities if I do not do so. I recommend Dr. Eric Shook, he is personable, professional, and knows how to improve mobility in a challenged back like mine.
