I randomly was mentioning to a coworker of mines about refinancing my home since mortgage rates went down exceedingly during the Covid-19 pandemic. I purchased a townhome March of 2018. Single person income, with student loan debt then later a new car, that I initially planned to pay off at least within 5 years. My interest rate was 5.25%. I was in shock to hear of the opportunity of getting a 3.5% interest rate, which would of course lower my monthly payments. I previously attempted to refinance with a different company I initially started off with. They told me that I am only eligible for a 30yr fixed at 3.3%. I was devastated because I really wanted a 15yr mortgage rate. Gonzalo, without let up, worked through different strategies that might make my 15yr fixed goal come true. Long story short, pun intended, Gonzalo was able to exceed BEYOND my expectations! I was able to close on my refinance with a 15yr fixed, 2.49% interest rate! Our mortgage broker was not attentive and we didn't get information about our loan unless we contacted her. Her loan processor, Michael was incompetent and made careless mistakes (using my social security number on a request for my business tax returns instead of my tax ID number), asking us for information that was provided months ago; which ultimately resulted in delays in the process. Every time I attempted to voice my concerns to our mortgage broker, Kim, she was condescending and combative. Our closing was today at 3pm and we didn't get closing disclosures until 1:30. We had no idea until 1 1/2 hours before closing, exactly how much we needed to close. We ran around scrambling all day. Had Academy stayed on top of our loan and efficiently communicated with us, the process would've gone a lot smoother. We finally closed today, after being given 4 different closing dates. Honestly, we were more ecstatic about not having to deal with Academy Mortgage anymore than the closing of our new home. I am a real estate agent and based upon the way I was handled, would never refer any of my potential buyers to them. The only reason I selected 1 star is because it doesn't allow 0!
