I wish I could show the same love for this theater everyone else has...it's a very old theater…read morethat's never been updated. You're reminded of the 70s and 80s in here as the chairs are old, the style of theater is that of an old one and so is the audio and video equipment. Don't get me wrong, I come by for the chance of watching throwback classics as they play old movies and independent movies. It's fun to watch movies you grew up to on the big screen but the movie experience isn't the greatest. For newer independent movies in a newer theater, the World Exchange usually gets some. Either case, those theaters are far from sitting in TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto. For more throwback movies you can check out the new Mayfair that opened in Orleans or the newly renovated Mayfair on Bank St which I believe are much better theaters. Coliseum recently had a throwback movie month and played classics on their modern screen with modern audio and video and that was amazing. The nostalgia is great here but honestly with the Mayfair that opened in Orleans and the renovation of the Mayfair on Bank St I really hope the Bytowne follows their lead.

I went in today because I was in the neighbourhood and it looked interesting, they sell defective sex toys and they're in a giant bin for everyone to touch. But what grossed me out the most was the fact that after I came out of the store I had a gross film of some type of dirt on my hand from touching the toys. barf. The woman approached me and in a snooty tone asked if I wanted to buy anything, and then proceeded to talk on the phone (not business related) for 10 minutes when I actually found something I wanted, she ignored me and I just ended up walking out. I will stick to Venus Envy, nice and clean and reasonably priced.

It can cost a pretty penny per visit, so we ended up getting an annual pass which was $99, and included entrance for our child, and two adults. The pass literally pays for itself after the first couple of visits. Birthday parties are also 50% off with an annual pass. Adults DO have to pay to get in, kinda sucks, but kinda understand why. Babies 11 months and under are free. There is a kiddie zone for kids 4 and under. I did notice that some of the older kids sneak into this zone, which sucks, because they normally play rougher than the babies/younger kids. There is also a dance room/area for kids to dance and go crazy, an arcade area near the food court, and smaller rides for the younger kids like a carousel and cars (the kind that you would find at the mall that costs 2 bucks). Parking is a nightmare. It's always full, and people never look where they are driving. Last time I was here, I saw a, most likely VERY tired mom, back up into another car. It is just mayhem here. On really busy days, they usually have an employee directing traffic. Ahemmm...it's like a kiddie Costco! Again, great place for kids to burn off energy, and for babies to get their stimulation.

However, my visit was heavily disrupted by large school groups monopolizing the interactive displays. To avoid these groups, try visiting after noon, as morning hours are peak time for field trip arrivals.

The prices are high but the products are organic and some are even local (they carry Vancouver-based Sea Flora products which are amazing and the Hungarian skin care line, Eminence which I have seen at various natural spas in New York City). The staff is professional and knowledgeable but not pushy when it comes to sales. The spa is super clean and smells lovely. Its a great addition to this rapidly changing neighborhood. When I'm in town, I always pop by for a visit or for some products, many of which are hard to find all in one place (particularly in Toronto).

They allow kids to learn and play instruments. But, what attracted me was that they also offered what they boot camps for adults. This allows adults to join ad-hoc bands and learn a number of songs and then play them live at a local Pub. I have raw talent on the drums, but I am by no means an experienced drummer. I have never owned a drum kit. Before attending the School of Rock, I must have sat in front of a drum set perhaps somewhere around 15 times. I called up the School of Rock and told them my situation. I was informed that I only needed to be willing to have fun playing. I was in! To date, I have attended about 5 rehearsals with my band and we are having a blast rehearsing our songs in the category Arena Rock (AC/DC, Heart, Peter Frampton, Bad Company, etc.) I never expected that I would be having so much fun learning music and being part of a band. I recommend the School of Rock to anyone that loves music and feels that they might enjoy playing an instrument. They also give lessons on playing guitar, drums and singing.

Caro (one of the owners) made the booking process really easy and helped with getting an event liquor license so the adults could have a couple drinks. She also went along with the surprise planning and gave my partner and I a tour of the facility so he'd walk into the party room unaware. Our animateur (game host), "FM", was a lot of fun - he started us off with a variety of group games so everyone could comfortable with one another and warmed up for some more challenging games. We were allowed to bring in snacks and drinks, and the venue provided coffee and tea for us. The boat room was really cool inside - the whole store is well decorated - and provided privacy from other patrons. In addition, the cost was totally reasonable compared to other area game venues I've been to in the past. Thank you L'as des jeux for making my partner's 30th a huge success!
