This is such a subpar Sephora. They are frequently out of products that remain out of stock for weeks. Every time you visit, you wait in a needlessly long line to pay. There are two registers, and only one is ever open. It doesn't matter what day of the week or how long a line; only one register. Today, there is one person in front of me in line. 8 out of the 9 items in the customers basket are testers. Instead of asking an associate to help the customer, or asking another associate to man the register while she helps the customer- the register associate told the customer to wait and then she spent 15 minutes trying to find all of the products. The line gets longer while she does this. Ultimately, she can't find everything, so she stops a makeup consultation to ask that associate for help. So now two employees are looking for one customer's items while no one is being checked out and a person who is having a makeup consultation waits. She finally returns to the register and tells the customer they are sold out of all the items she wanted (that she grabbed that were testers). She asks if the customer would like to order online. The customer says no. She proceeds to check the customer out and they decide to sign her up for the Rewards Program (it's been 20 minutes of my waiting in line begins this one person by this point). When the customer goes to pay she has a gift card, but she can't read the gift card numbers so she asks the sales associate to do it. The sales associate also has issues with the numbers and they transpose quite a few before they get it right. The total the customer had to pay? $8. So, I waited in line for over 20 minutes while one customer who only spent $8 was helped. I'm also pretty sure the employee working in the register is the manager (based on my numerous previous visits and observations). Get your register and stocking situation managed Merced Sephora. The only reason I'm giving 2 points instead of 0 is because the associates who give makeup consultations are actually quite good at this location. read more

Damn it! Rhianna had my butt up in Sephora today along with everybody else This was my very 1st purchase at the major makeup collective...will I go back? Possibly... I am not a makeup queen by any means, my wear is very light and easy going. I am not yet fully convinced or ready to spend my hard earned dollars on major brand makeup...however! RhiRhi has come with something too good to pass up. At a retail price of $32 alone for foundation, I just bit the bullet and did the damn thang! After testing my complexion on this skin contraption, the Sephora staff member had my number and we were rolling! This purchase was just for foundation purposes only. The team did really well and have nothing negative to say about this location or the staff. I will probably be sometime in the future. read more

(For Ivette & Maria) There are so many reasons I want to write this review but I'll try not to overwhelm fellow readers. I think the reason that speaks the loudest is their humanity. I didn't feel like they were trying to push a product on me, or ignoring me, or like I was bothering them, or like I wasn't pretty enough. They were simply helpful and sweet and we happened to share our love the makeup. So often in the beauty industry you see a lot of ugly behavior and I internalize it. But today I left the store remembering makeup is beautiful & thinking why can't we all just help make each other feel beautiful? I'm happy. They are lovely women. read more

This place is a flat out joke. As I type this review I'm standing still waiting for color match. I had to hunt down an associate then she tells me that as soon as she is done with her client she would help me, she has not helped 5 people in front of me. Finally I just go to the counter and after waiting a good 20 mins in line I get to the counter and she just looks like a deer in the headlights telling me they have to help me on the floor. WTF for real?!?! This will be my last time shopping here as I will make the trip to Ulta. read more

I went in to get color matched and was serviced by Natalie. She was very rude and disrespectful to me during the service, it was clear she was in a rush and didn't care about the color match. When I left, I watched her take off her mask and cough into the register. Would not recommend getting any services with Natalie. read more

Liz was great helping me match a foundation shade. She was very patient. The girls at the register were very sweet as well. The only con is that a lot of the product on the shelves as trials have disappeared. But that's not their fault that some people are thieves. read more

Not once was I asked if I needed help with something considering I kept waking around and around. Then they ask all the other customers if they're finding everything okay. I've worked retail for almost ten years so I know how to treat a customer!! I'll just drive to Turlock and go to Ultra instead. As I was leaving I saw two employees talking to each other. 5 stars to Alejandra! 1 star for the rest of the employees. I was so excited to walk in Sephora and actually BUY products not waste their time. As I walk in Alejandra was the only one who greeted us and all the customers who walked in and asked us if we had any questions after standing there for over 5 minutes. She was taking customer at the register, cleaning, and greeting! This employee comes and says "oh haha sorry I thought you knew Alejandra" seriously?!? Like seriously?! Haha what a joke! When I was going to pay this Asian lady was sooo rude and had the worst attitude! I've been working in customer service for a few years and you have to treat everyone the same! And love diversity! I havent had the best experience every time ive gone in there to be honest. However! My most recent visit was great. I went in with the intention of getting new foundation, skin care, and whatever else i liked (lol). usually i can color match myself but thought why not ask one of the girls. I did have to wait a bit but i am glad i did. A girl name Ivette helped me and she was the sweetest. She was very patient and willing to hear me on my needs for a new makeup product. I ended up not getting foundation and taking samples instead. I was smelling perfume and she helped me out with some when she saw me pick up a few different ones--she gave me samples in small bottles of perfume!! I have never been offered that before. She was very thoughtful and I would be more than happy to give this sephora business as long as they have people like her working there! Thanks Ivette! read more

Limited selection and nice employees. My only issue with this location is the check-out line. There was only one cashier who was helping phone for a customer, I get it the employee was doing her best to serve the customer. The only thing is that no other employees came up to help at the register soon enough and a long line formed. I was carrying my laptop in my purse which made my purse extremely heavy and waiting longer than necessary in line to make a simple purchase was definitely an inconvenience. read more

Shopping in a Sephora should not involve an integrity issue but the Merced store located in JCPenny at the Merced Mall is an exception. Let me say first that my family spends a lot of $$$$ in Sephora. My senior relative was poorly color matched and given a small sample which did not look at all good when applied at home. No big deal, it may take a few tries when checking out a new foundation formulation even if the brand is one you have used for years. She had to go back and try again as Sephora is pretty much the only game in town. She was again color matched in a brand (but new formulation) that she has worn for 30 years and ask for a sample to try at home. Note, she is a for sure paying consumer given a competent color match. As the employee was making the sample another girl came over and said "Sephora no longer gives samples due to contamination problems." Knowing that was crap, we called the manager the next day and asked what was going on with the sample thing. She stated that it was because they were out of sample containers. REALLY??? The first employee was already making up the sample when she was told to stop. My relative was told she had to purchase the product if she wanted to try it at home. I don't know what the problem really was but you lost 3 Merced resident shoppers. We try to support local business but...... Turlock and Modesto are just up the road and we are there often anyway. read more

This Sephora is by far the worst Sephora I've been to. Since it is the only one near me, I have to resort to going here for my makeup needs. The only pro is that they are generally stocked pretty well. Except for one or two workers, the store employees are rude or stand off ish. I ALWAYS get attitude when returning items even though the items are gently used, whereas other stores will let me return or exchange things without any issue. For example, one guy rudely told me that they have samples for me to try on stuff so that I wouldn't have to return anything in the future and I was like ???? you of all people should understand that you cannot judge an item off first impression. For example, I've purchased foundations that look nice at first but will oxidize throughout the day or even bring out dry spots. Lipsticks may look nice on your hand, but different on your actual face (I dont put the samples on my lips for obvious health reasons). Sephora states that you can return any item if you are not satisfied. The act of me returning an item doesn't directly affect your paycheck. It really upsets me how some of the workers here can be. I've only met one friendly worker here who was nice enough to find my correct shade of foundation and was patient enough to answer my questions. I really like this place! It is conveniently located in Merced. If anyone is familiar with Merced you will know that there is not many places, if any that offer high-end beauty products. I believe this would make it the only place. In addition, the staff is very friendly and helpful. Every time I have gone there has always been someone ready to assist me. This Sephora is very well stocked which is a pleasant surprise. I feel that every time I go into a Sephora there is not much stock if any. They will always only have the product only on display but nothing in stock. I've gone to other Sephora's in Sacramento which you would think would have more things available because it is a city, well they don't. I got myself to go in because I wanted to try the new Fenty by Rihanna foundation. I normally use the Tarte rainforest of the sea foundation, I have not been able to find something else that I like. I initially go and get a sample because I hate buying a full size foundation and ending up returning it because I don't like it. I got a sample of the Fenty foundation tried it out. I disliked it very much at first but then it grew on me and now I love it. I returned to Sephora to purchase it! read more
