I came via public trans - super easy to get to. It's right off the 34th st MFL stop. My friend and I were greeted by two Drexel students working the front desk who were super friendly and asked if we had visited there before. When we said no, they asked how we found out about it and proceeded to tell us more about the Gallery and previous exhibits they've had. Since it's Drexel-affiliated, some previous exhibits had to do with Drexel history, which isn't something I'd be super into, but I'm definitely excited to see what they will show here in the future. As a huge music fan, seeing photographs of some of my favorites (Queen, Elton John, etc.) were super cool. Especially when you think about the fact that technology back then isn't what it is now. I loved that they played a video about Bob Gruen, interviewing him and some of the musicians featured in his photos about his work. They are having an event with the author this week and I am really considering coming back. My favorite part was the bedroom replica with the walls covered in posters, photos, and clippings. Check this exhibit our before it leaves in May! Update - came back for the interview event with Bob himself. Kudos to the Gallery for pulling off this great event and book signing. It really brought his art to life!

We stopped by on our visit to the University of Pennsylvania to specifically see the Joanna Piotrowska: unseeing eyes, restless bodies We didn't think we would spend as much time as we did here, and I loved both of the exhibits. There are two gallery spaces, the first one held "Where I Learned to Look: Art from the Yard", with the curator and several artist being from Texas. I'm not sure I loved it because there was a Texas connection and also Baltimore screen art, but I really enjoyed art from a yard perspective. Fun contemporary art and a Koons piece. The second story held the second exhibit: Joanna Piotrowska: unseeing eyes, restless bodies. She's a Ukrainian artist, and I really thought it was going to be something different but it was a really cool exhibit. I have never seen carpet and space used this way before and her art evoked both fear and whimsy and awe. I love this museum and the fact that it's really quaint - obviously the experience you're going to have here depends on what exhibits are showing, but I had a great time here overall. It's completely free so if you're ever by the University of Pennsylvania, I highly recommend you stop by.

There have been plans for an office/mixed use tower in the parking lot that faces this mural but for now, we have the opportunity to take it in entirely. Wow, there's some detail here and a story. When we were on the way to the Clay Studio to top of our arts crawl my crew and I noticed another…read morenew gallery, so naturally we stopped in to check it out. To be honest I liked I liked the space itself (and the food spread) better than the art. But at least it kept it ecletic. Dalet had a good balance between paintings and photography which could be great down the line. The theme of the exhibit was "The Scent Of A Woman", But even though it was a theme that McThrill is usually guilty of being quite fond of, the art in itself. When I scoped out the featured painter the work struck me as being familiar, and it turned out it used to be one of my favorite artists who used to own his own gallery at least 5 years ago. Either my tastes have evoled as I've gotten more seasoned to the crawl, or his style as dwindled (I'm going with a little of each), because his style just didn't grab me as much as it used to. The Photographer they featured was pretty uninteresting. Their work featured the juxtaposition between a mannequin and a live model who were sporting the same clothing and spread out in the same backyard. It didn't grab me per say, but at least it inspired me to do something similar while utilizing the juxtaposition between Aaron O. and Domokun (http://www.curiosite.com/scripts/news/ennews.php?frmIdPagina=10103) Art aside the space itself was pretty impressive. It was pretty huge and spread out, leaving room for plenty of art. They had one back room that served as a sitting lounge, and another that hooked up an epic cheese filled food spread. So it can definitely house a lot of potential, especially since this was just the first exhibit. *Epic side rant of the the last two new reviews* what's with new Art Galleries skimping out on their web design? I complained about Salt doing it, and it looks like Dalet isn't any different. At least Salt had a little bit of information though, while Dalet's page is just very purple.

I was greeted immediately as I walked in and informed of the layout of the store and sales of the day. They have a beautiful selection of handcrafted pieces from all around, the staff is kind and attentive. All very stylish! It's a great place to get a gift for someone or add a unique piece to your own collection. I left with a beautifully beaded octopus keychain and my mother got some sterling silver gemstone earrings. All at reasonable prices. I love unique stores like this.

Such a gem right off the Spring Garden stop, I attended a fantastic mixed poetry reading and open mic night back in October. They have two levels and there's bathrooms at the back and a couple of different ways to set up seats. The stage itself is the perfect size for a DJ setup or smaller show. I look forward to the next time I get to go back and support this eclectic spot - an obvious haven for artists and the entire scene here in Philly. Love what it used to be, and especially love what it is now!…read more If you've attended a Mad Decent Block Party prior to the one that happened at the Piazza this year then you might be well aware of the mausoleum that used to be Diplo's temple of sound. And when he moved on the expand the Mad Decent name to other parts of the US he sold it to a group who aimed to create an incredible DIY forum for art and music. The end result delivers quite well on both fronts. It makes for a good all ages shows. And Since it used to be the studio of an exceptional DJ/Producer who knew more than a thing or two about sound (http://youtu.be/N5_vYkYPP08) it goes without saying that it might get loud. So earplugs may be recommended least you find yourself saying Its All Gone Pete Tong (http://youtu.be/g5K6pIez5P4). When PhilaMOCA isn't showcasing some incredible music its open for some pretty eclectic art viewings. And it works with plenty of collectives that are well versed in combining the 2 scenarios.
