If they don't answer your call right away, their return call to help you is always in a reasonably short amount of time. I see two therapists from Orlando Counseling Services (Amy Valentino for individual therapy and Makenzie Moffett for family therapy) and I am impressed with both of them. Amy is by far the best individual therapist I have ever had and I have been in therapy on and off for almost 40 years. Amy respects my dignity and self-actualization as a client; is not so arrogant to think she knows better than me as to what I should do with my own life; acts as a guide to make observations about things I can think about to make better decisions about myself; and is incredibly accommodating and generous with her time and energy to show care and concern for me and my mental and emotional well-being. As for Makenzie, she is very skillful at making sure my mother and I are both heard during our family therapy sessions and that neither one of us dominates the sessions and that we both get what we need individually and together from our sessions. She also works hard to provide additional resources to help both my mother and I based on what comes up in our family sessions. However, an interaction between Ms. Kimberly (the Adm assistant) and I has forced me to seek services else where. She literally insulted me over the phone regarding a very sensitive matter. It was very unprofessional, unkind, and unnecessary. She was out of line and saw no issue with her inappropriate statement. To add insult to injury she screened my calls when I made the attempt to call back (I ended the call after she insulted me). She purposely decline my call 4 times. On the 5th call she picked up and continued to address me in a unprofessional manner. I am both shocked and disappointed.

ONE-STAR REVIEW My…read morewife was admitted to University Behavioral Health Center in Orlando on July 16. Our experience was disturbing, and I cannot recommend this facility. She slept on a paper-thin mattress with two thin pillows and two blankets that did not keep her warm. Staff repeatedly shined a flashlight toward her eyes at night, waking her. During the day, bedroom doors were locked, patients had to ask to use the bathroom, and they were not allowed to sleep or rest in dim lighting. They remained under bright fluorescent lights with no outdoor time. She had to repeatedly ask for toilet paper and wait for basic hygiene products such as deodorant. Bathing supplies were available only during designated times, and two roommates had to coordinate showers within one 30-minute period. Despite the restrictive environment, group therapy reportedly occurred only once or twice daily, and her psychiatrist visits lasted about five minutes. The facility has a pool and gym, but patients were not allowed to use them. Phone access for the entire unit was limited to three shared 30-minute periods per day. Adult visitation was only one hour, twice per week, in the gym. Visitors had to set up folding chairs and could not bring cellphones inside. Most concerning was the confusion surrounding her rights and discharge. She said she was not given a copy of her rights at intake. She felt pressured to change her status from involuntary to voluntary and was led to believe this was necessary for discharge. She was then told a discharge request would immediately be denied and could begin a court process to hold her longer. She was not offered an opportunity to contact an attorney before making these decisions. Staff gave us contradictory information. My wife was told she would be discharged, but I was told she would not. She was later told her discharge was delayed because staff had not had time to call me. When I requested updates, staff frequently seemed unfamiliar with her case. After an attorney became involved and an emergency petition for release was pursued, she was released immediately. The timing raised serious concerns for our family. Some nursing staff were rude and dismissive, treating vulnerable patients like criminals rather than people needing compassionate care. Mental-health patients deserve sleep, warmth, hygiene, clear information, meaningful treatment, access to their rights, and basic dignity. I am consulting legal counsel, exploring potential collective legal action, and plan to speak with my state senator about patient rights and compliance with Florida's Baker Act. I was referred to Dr. Green almost a year ago. I didn't post a review then because I was so upset…read more I recently came across an email draft that I never sent to her office and decided to comment here. This is the worst place ever. Do not go. She has a horrible bedside manner and is extremely unsympathetic. Dr. Green spent my appointment insulting me and insinuating that I had "asked for it." She even asked me "what [I] did to illicit this sort of a reaction" when I told her about how two boys had shoved me into a dorm room and attempted to force me to have sex with someone. She also called me a "messed up bookshelf of emotions" and recommended strongly that I be drugged up because it was so unnatural to cry about something like that. Dr. Green felt so threatened by my mentioning that a family member may have been misdiagnosed because she had seen multiple therapists who gave different diagnoses that Dr. Green condescendingly made me stare at her lab coat and read to her what it said on it and tell her if I had a lab coat or not. She was very rude. I would never recommend her to anyone. I left my appointment in tears only to learn that her office was going to charge me twice as much as they had assured me they would. This is a horrible place. Please find someone who cares about helping you rather than taking your money. Find someone who doesn't seem like they are intentionally trying to make you feel small or blame you for things like an attempted sexual assault on you. There are better mental health professionals out there. I suggest that you seek them out.
