This is a very eclectic home, just a stone's throw from SUNY Oswego. It is a gorgeously landscaped historic home with so much eye appeal including a barn, a gated vegetable garden and a huge piece of property. Our room was filled with so much charm, it just drew you in, especially a four poster grandma's feather bed with a hand knit topper. The home was filled with thousands of nick-hacks, from their travels and antiquing. One of the most memorable pieces was a ten foot tall mirror they retrieved from on top of a mantle in a mansion. Really, how tall was that ceiling, I wondered. I took in each and every item, none of which had an iota of dust on it. After our first stay there, we had to stay again. One day, no one else was home and my curiosity got the best of me and I had to peek into the other rooms. One room was undone, another had similar decor as ours and the other had an Asian theme. Our four claw bathtub was just delightful to luxuriate in. My fantasy life came alive. The toilet had a pull-chain on top and the light above the sink was sufficient for the room. Ellen, the owner, cooked breakfast and served scones, grilled grapefruit and eggs. It was absolutely delicious. I just wanted to believe an old aunt owned this home and was putting it in her will for me. It was so cozy and lovable. My honey and I wanted to stay forever, alas it was time for reality and we were gone. I would gladly stay again. read more

The owners were not here to greet us when we arrived. We had a number of questions to ask which were not in the "instruction sheet" left in the room. If you're looking for quiet this is not the place to be. You can hear everything in the house. Running water prevents you from sleeping in. The rooms were clean though, but there is a funky sewer smell lingering in the air that makes you wonder if there are dirty diapers left around the place. All in all, it's better than not having a place to sleep, but it's not the good b&n experience I am used to having. read more

What a beautiful home and grounds! My fiancé and I could not have been more pleased by our stay at Serendipity. The whole home is hospitable and beautifully decorated; the lawn and gardens, lovely, the bed very comfortable, and the bathroom well appointed and full of thoughtful touches. Plus, the prices were incredibly reasonable! We enjoyed getting to know the owner who was a pleasure to spend time with but gave us plenty of privacy, and was very kind and flexible about our arrival and departure times. What a lovely stay...I found myself reciting aloud to anyone who would listen to me chide the next day home as I pondered around contemplating on how relaxed we both were after having returned from a long weekend stay. My hubby and I stayed at this historic inn 3 nights to attend an event and were not disappointed. We live approximately 90 miles from NYC and were looking for a place that was slow paced and authentic and found it. I won't go into all the details that have already so aptly been described by other reviewers...but only want to add that both Bill and Joann were absolutely perfect hosts as they remembered details like do you want your coffee roasted this evening again, and will breakfast be as before at 8:30am. These are the important details to travelers like us with discriminating tastes who like to be looked after. And yes...the gourmet breakfast each morning was absolutely sublime! I stayed at Serendipity for two nights while attending a college reunion. The house and grounds are beautiful. The large rooms are decorated carefully with appropriate period colors and furnishings, and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. I stayed in the Asian Room, which to my delight, has a balcony overlooking the front yard, as well as a wonderful bed. The bath was spotless, as is the rest of the house. Water pressure was great, and supplies were on hand for anyone who might have forgotten an item. The Inn offers free Wi-Fi, which turned out to be very handy for this T-Mobile subscriber, as there is only spotty coverage in the area. Dana, one of the innkeepers, is a lovely host; flexible, available, generous and engaging. She clearly enjoys her guests, and is adept at making connections among them at the breakfast table, as well as in the evening. Her cooking is superb. We breakfasted like royalty, with different table settings both mornings I was there. Gardeners will appreciate the beds, which supply the herbs for the meals, and the small pond in the side yard. There is some sound transfer; from the street, which was perfectly masked by running the fan on the AC in the room, and from other guests, who held a lively conversation in the upstairs hall when they returned from a pub crawl. We have stayed at this property for the past several years and have seen significant improvements with new management. Ellen, the new innkeeper, and her whole family have been just outstanding at meeting our needs. She goes above and beyond, like getting up at 4:30am to have our breakfast ready for us when we leave early for fishing. Or allowing us to utilize her kitchen to package our catch. I just saw the post from 2012 and I could not disagree more. Not sure if there was a change in management in between then but this bed and breakfast was amazing. Three of us came to town for a 20 year college reunion and decided to stay at Serendipty. The owner ellen greeted us as we came into the house, gave us a tour of the house and made sure we were all set when we checked in. The food was amazing with many of the dishes being made from scratch. The maple scones were amazing. So much better then staying in a hotel.
