Our son, wife and grandkids were adjacent to us in a family room. The rooms are large with some furnishings and a tv. All the staff we met were friendly with an easy way about them, and they took time to chat with us and play with the kids. They served all of us very well indeed throughout our stay. We had one late night disaster in our room, courtesy of one of our grandkids, which was dealt with in a timely and sympathetic way. Our 3 night package included daily breakfast & 3 evening meals. Evening main menus changed nightly but the sweet menu did not. That said, there were plenty of great desserts to choose from. The dining room was on the 1st floor overlooking the lough and used for breakfast and dinner. The food served at evening meal time was mostly quite good with decent portions but if I were in the kitchen I'd add some more cream to some sauces, like the pepper sauce and the garden pea sauce, just to make them more luxurious and smooth, after all a little bit of luxury is lovely when your on holidays and I can't be doing with all this stuff about cutting out cream, butter, salt and so on; just enjoy this stuff in moderation. The breakfast selections too was good. The croissants were really moreish along with beautiful little mini French cheeses. Breakfast was mostly serve yourself except for kippers, boiled & poached eggs, with staff bringing coffee & tea. I'm not a big fan of sausage, bacon & eggs in hotels as most hotels - even more up market ones - buy battery hen eggs and low quality sausage and bacon, which usually are too high in cheap fat so I opted for kippers each morning which took 20 minutes to cook to order. I think that hotels are missing a trick by not using their buying power more effectively to buy free range eggs and better quality bacon & sausage meats and making a big deal out of it on their websites & menus. I guess they would get positive reactions from guests too particularly modern parents who are keen to ensure that their kids have better quality produce. I tried the porridge and being old school I added salt to taste which completely transformed the flavour. No wonder chefs say salt is the most important ingredient in cooking and again its sensible to take salt in moderation as just like fat the human body can't do without it. The steam & sauna rooms are first class as is the jacuzzi. The grandkids loved the pools too. All in all we were truly relaxed here and we've promised ourselves to return to relax some more and explore much more of what the road signs in the area call 'Amazing Grace' country. I can't argue with that. On balance it's a 5 star.

Our room was air conditioned ( not all in Ireland are) and we were served well by the bartender in the evening and for breakfast. They had a nice selection of breakfast options including salmon and scrambled eggs. Good coffee, fine linens, overall a place I would return to.

The Shipquay is located in a gorgeous Italianate-style-listed heritage building that comprises a wealth of magnificent boutique hotel rooms. Our Superior Double Room had a beautiful and comfortable king-sized bed that was stylish and sophisticated. We enjoyed the amenities, such as the walk-in shower and the castiron tub that my wife and I loved immensely. They had complimentary WiFi and robes and slippers for us to wear in the morning and at night that was quite comfortable. The restaurant on the lobby floor provided us with delicious eats for breakfast and dinner, with refreshing and tasty cocktails, all in a stylish and contemporary interior that was our speed. The hotel is close to everything for site seeing and visiting attractions. There are tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance to enjoy. And if you want to stay indoors for the night, you have the restaurant and bar or speakeasy that's on-site. There are shopping centers everywhere, including one next store if you need to pick up some clothes, souvenirs, or just want to take a gander through. Overall, this is the place to stay when in Derry, and we will do so again upon our next one.

Breakfast machine coffee is poor but that's common enough. Check out was as easy as check in. We are happy to return and happy to stay longer next time. We had checked in advance on EV charging here as this was the first time I used my electric car on a long run around Ireland. It promises over 300 miles and delivered on the promise. The hotel has a few EV chargers and it worked very well. It was £1.85 standing charge just to use the unit and around 60 pence a kilowatt hour.

Elegant long bar with a nice TV. Full bar with a beautiful bookshelf setting against the wall which makes it perfect to snap a photo with the ambiance it creates. I was really taken for a loop when I woke up for breakfast, and they had a bottle of Bushmills Irish Whisky next to the porridge! I did not indulge but how unique and wonderful that they would offer free booze with breakfast as a buffet option. Bushmills Distillery is not too far away so maybe that had something to do with it : ) They had some live music playing adjacent from the bar and the food for dinner was quality. I had the roast beef with two kinds of potatoes. One was reminiscent of potatoes au gratin but was called something else. We liked it so much we jotted down what it was called so we could look up the recipe at another time. Upon a google search here is a description of the potato side dish (It's hard to think of a side-dish more luxurious than gratin dauphinois. Not much more than thinly sliced potatoes layered with butter and cream, it's soft and luscious on the inside, with a gorgeously browned ("gratinée") crusty top that adds fabulous texture. There are also many historical sites near by which you can take a tour with a tour guide for a very small nominal fee. Highly recommend. As always people SYOY!!!!

The Haddock was good. The chips needed more "crisp" to them. The Chicken Kiev was tasty, but was not CHicken Kiev in the traditional sense, as it was not stuffed. The service was good. The prices moderate. My guess is that the hotel has been renovated within the last 5 years. The entrance is not impresive but the rooms, Halls and stairways are modern, clean and comfortable. This is the best stay so far in Ireland. The hospitality is par excellence. The rooms are modern and clean. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom had a heated towel rack. Finally, a large screen TV in the room. Parking was about a block and a half away at City Park. This seems to be common practice in the larger cities in Ireland. Lovely stay and on to the Giants Causeway and then Belfast.

Situated on the peninsula the hotel has breathtaking views over the water. We had opted for a waterside suite to make the most of the views and were thoroughly impressed. The room was huge and the bed even more so. Whilst some areas of the hotel were slightly tired, it appeared to have been recently updated and the main areas were beautiful. There were two bars and we opted for the lounge overlooking the water, which had table service and was much quieter than the main bar. There was a wedding on but the lounge was reserved for nonwedding guests, which was perfect. Dinner in the hotel was superb and yet again we had a table with gorgeous views, albeit it was dark soon enough. Staff were attentive and made dinner very memorable. Breakfast was your typical buffet but with a great selection and a machine that made pancakes at the push of a button! Great start to the day. I would have given the hotel 5 starts but shortly after we arrived a girl came into our rooms with towels, which I feel should have been sorted before check in (and we checked in much after the allowed time). In addition, the laundry trolley spent all day outside our room, slumped with towels etc. This is a massive pet hate of mine, especially outside the hours between check out and check in.
