It was transformed into a 20-room hotel in 1991 by Patsy O'Kane and her brother, Seamus Donnelly. Ten more rooms were added in 2000. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The room we stayed in contained a king bed that seemed 50 percent wider than a standard king. Staff members were friendly and the hotel Ardmore restaurant served excellent food in a fine dining atmosphere. The hotel is located on a quiet road off a major highway on the east side of Derry and contains several acres of trees and walking paths. I highly recommend it.

I had booked Beech Hill Country House which is a stunning Georgian house, with 30 bedrooms and suites, based at Ardmore Road. I had booked a classic double room for my mum and a superior room (as it included both a king size as well as a single bed) for my sister and I, but on arrival were delighted to receive two superior rooms beside each other with adjoining door! A lovely touch. The rooms were huge, warm and comfortable and we were looking forward to relaxing in them later that evening. (I later found out that each room in the hotel looks different as they have all been individually restored, so different décor, paints, fabrics etc) But before we relaxed in our rooms, it was down to the bar for a few drinks and dinner! It was a cold evening so we parked up right in front of the fire- bliss! In fact, we didn't leave and decided to have our dinner right there. The Beech Hill is famed for its food and a number of people remarked to me that I would enjoy it when I mentioned I was staying there. The next morning we went down for breakfast and were impressed with both the cooked and continental selection- with all three of us having a bit of both! After breakfast, we walked round and explored the grounds. The hotel has different trials, with 32 acres of woodland and gardens. During our walk I was so impressed to learn about the history of the site. In June 1941, the United States constructed a naval base on the Foyle, named 'Base One Europe'. It remained the US Navy's main centre of operations in Europe until June 1944. The Beech Hill Country House Hotel provided the location for one the main accommodation camps and we couldn't believe a hut was still in place. Fascinating! Our room was air conditioned ( not all in Ireland are) and we were served well by the bartender in the evening and for breakfast. They had a nice selection of breakfast options including salmon and scrambled eggs. Good coffee, fine linens, overall a place I would return to.

The Shipquay is located in a gorgeous Italianate-style-listed heritage building that comprises a wealth of magnificent boutique hotel rooms. Our Superior Double Room had a beautiful and comfortable king-sized bed that was stylish and sophisticated. We enjoyed the amenities, such as the walk-in shower and the castiron tub that my wife and I loved immensely. They had complimentary WiFi and robes and slippers for us to wear in the morning and at night that was quite comfortable. The restaurant on the lobby floor provided us with delicious eats for breakfast and dinner, with refreshing and tasty cocktails, all in a stylish and contemporary interior that was our speed. The hotel is close to everything for site seeing and visiting attractions. There are tons of restaurants and bars within walking distance to enjoy. And if you want to stay indoors for the night, you have the restaurant and bar or speakeasy that's on-site. There are shopping centers everywhere, including one next store if you need to pick up some clothes, souvenirs, or just want to take a gander through. Overall, this is the place to stay when in Derry, and we will do so again upon our next one.

Alas, the rest of the staff was very helpful. We were a tad tired from our long drive and opted to eat at the hotel. The food was delicious. The room was very spacious. Certainly a property to seek out.

On our tour of Ireland this was by far the worst hotel on our trip. In all fairness, the location is pretty nice. It's located on the river, only a few steps from the Pease Bridge and maybe a block or so from the inner city. That's where the good things end! The hotel is old and the amenities are poor or nonexistent. Where do I start? No refrigerator, only two plugs in the room which are located far away from the bed. The beds are hard and uncomfortable and the pillows suck (flat and hard)! No air conditioning and the TV is tiny. Instead of A/C there is a fan in the room. Food on the breakfast buffet ran out fast and took a long time to restock. And the service was in no hurry to get anything. Entertainment in the bar area was comically bad. I actually thought that it was karaoke when we walked in and sat down!

I am still cross about this stay after a week and I want a refund. I had tried to have a hot shower…read morein room 104 at 5pm and again next morning, but again only luke warm water, and it didn't matter which way I turned the controls. Oddly enough there was hot water from the tap at the sink. Sorry just doesn't cut it any more; it's really a breach of contract. Here's the experience: I'm not a fan of lukewarm showers. We were going out for food on the evening of our arrival to the wonderful Exchange and wanted to freshen up. So I got into the shower and the water was unpleasantly cool. No matter what I did it made no beneficial difference, so I gave up. I didn't see anyone on reception as we left and after the Exchange we returned to our room to collect our tickets. As we left again to go to the Fureys, there was a receptionist standing in the doorway holding it open for a woman who was putting goods into a taxi. I told her the problem, she apologised, she asked the room number and said she'd send somebody to sort it out. We returned from the show and to bed. No one among the staff spoke to us nor left a note so I assumed that the issue was resolved. I only found out next morning it was as awful as the night before. On departure, in response to the question if we enjoyed our stay, I told the receptionist my experience of the night before and again that morning. She said their maintenance man would not have been on site the previous evening when we were going to the show but she couldn't explain why her colleague to me she would send someone to sort it out, nor why it wasn't sorted and why no one bothered to tell me. While she was terribly apologetic and I accepted her apology no refund was offered - why not. It's no longer acceptable - their prices have risen considerably over recent years so they have to be on top of their game. If I ordered steak and chips in a restaurant and I was only served chips I wouldn't pay the steak and chips price and no one would disagree, so why is it that the absence of something as important and as basic as hot water is not immediately dealt with as a breach of the contract as I didn't get what I paid for? The receptionist on the morning of departure said we could have changed rooms had we been there another night but I didn't argue. I had already raised the issue and having done so I reasonably thought it would be promptly resolved for the reasons above and even if a room change was possible we would have had to repack then unpack with no guarantee that we'd have hot water. I note Kadie of guest services responds to reviews so over to Kadie to address my refund; we booked through Groupon. On the up side our welcome was genuinely warm, the room was comfy, the bed too. Barry's tea is a treat. The tv is too small mind and they don't appear to have EV charging.

We had a two night stay in June, 2024. We selected the hotel because there was supposedly food on…read moresite (we didn't have a vehicle) and wi-fi access. Several of our group were meant to be working remotely during our stay. When we arrived, the wi-fi wasn't working and hadn't been working for over a week. They said it might be repaired but they were waiting for a part. The restaurant was closed, so we ended up buying packaged food from a service station. The rooms were very small and smelled quite musty. The restaurant remained closed and the wi-fi was not working for our entire stay. This stay was definitely not worth the money ($450 US for two rooms/two nights) paid.

Beautiful hotel in Northern Ireland…read more My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night while on a CIE bus tour and I could immediately see the differences compared with the hotels we stayed in Ireland compared to Northern Ireland. Elegant long bar with a nice TV. Full bar with a beautiful bookshelf setting against the wall which makes it perfect to snap a photo with the ambiance it creates. I was really taken for a loop when I woke up for breakfast, and they had a bottle of Bushmills Irish Whisky next to the porridge! I did not indulge but how unique and wonderful that they would offer free booze with breakfast as a buffet option. Bushmills Distillery is not too far away so maybe that had something to do with it : ) They had some live music playing adjacent from the bar and the food for dinner was quality. I had the roast beef with two kinds of potatoes. One was reminiscent of potatoes au gratin but was called something else. We liked it so much we jotted down what it was called so we could look up the recipe at another time. Upon a google search here is a description of the potato side dish (It's hard to think of a side-dish more luxurious than gratin dauphinois. Not much more than thinly sliced potatoes layered with butter and cream, it's soft and luscious on the inside, with a gorgeously browned ("gratinée") crusty top that adds fabulous texture. There are also many historical sites near by which you can take a tour with a tour guide for a very small nominal fee. Highly recommend. As always people SYOY!!!!

Breakfast on day 2 found us across the street...and for me to evacuate a place ONCE IT WAS PAID FOR then well it just gotta be bad.
