A little backstory: I was put on a nipple shield from day one in the hospital due to a poor latch. My son was later diagnosed with a lip and tongue tie so we had a procedure to fix it however up until then, no one in the hospital nor our other lactation consultant ever attempted to work on our latch once he had the surgery. I am convinced that Christine is an angel on earth. Even before my baby was born, I had fears about breastfeeding because I'd heard so many stories from friends about it not working out. Christine Hennes is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant brought down from the heavens. It is not often you have a consultant spend about 2 hours with you and that results in changing your life, and in this case that of our newborn son, Leo. That is what I can almost guarantee will happen if you hire Christine. We had our first baby boy at La Jolla Scripps. We had a C Section so we were in the hospital for three nights and four days. We had about 18 different nurses assist us with nursing/breastfeeding. They were super helpful but we had no idea how much they did not teach us prior to our departure until we had our consultation with Christine. Nothing against the nurses at the hospital but it is not necessarily their job to make you an expert; they cannot (or at least don't, maybe the philosophy is that they want you to figure it out on your own more and more so you feel prepared to be out on your own) spend that much time with you and they are not specialists. We had to go to the emergency room the day after we were discharged because our boy had only one wet diaper and one bowel movement over a day and a half (on third day of life); we also knew he was jaundiced (although not enough for action). This prompted us to get a hold of our pediatrician who referred us to Christine. She was at our house within 4 hours. We had messed with formula over the last day and a half intermittently with breastfeeding. Needless to say, we no longer have to do that due to our time with Christine. My wife is now confident and feeling great. Our baby is feeling happy. Everything is going to be OK now. If you have a baby I guarantee you will get something out of a consultation with Christine. We were having latching issues and feeding issues immediately in the hospital with our little boy and the nurses nor the hospital lactation consultant could resolve them. Their immediate focus was to get him fed, which i understand, but this put us on a path of supplementing with formula on his second day of life using tube feeding, and the potential of having to resort to a bottle. We were both devastated and worked hard over the next couple of nights at home to get him fed. Our pediatrician recommended Christine and its the best money that i have ever spent. I called her at 7am on Saturday morning and she called back within an hour and came that evening. She spent close to three hours with us to ultimately get our boy fed and teach both my wife and myself (as a support person) how to breastfeed successfully. Christine was recommended to us by our pediatrician and I didn't think I would need her with our 3rd child, but I was wrong! Turned out our third child had a tongue tie and after getting it clipped we just couldn't get him to latch properly to get enough milk.
