Podiatry, just in case you might need to google it as I did, turns out to be a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. The above, is something which, as far as I know, is not offered elsewhere in the local vicinity. I discovered this, and indeed the centre itself, while investigating some massage gift vouchers for my gran (I decided to go along the more medical lines instead of beauty spa massages). From this visit, I can say that this centre is well equipped with all the relevant staff, equipment, space and resources. The staff in particular are extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about their wide range of products and treatments on offer. All of which can be purchased for a reasonable rate. These may be slightly more expensive that you would like. But these treatments are an investment, of sorts, and worth the occasional fee for most people. Thus, if your tempted by some of their specialist treatments and have a few extra pennies to hand - this place comes recommended by my granny.

This place does SPORTS massage, and the only relaxation you'll do is once it's over. Rought and Hard...just the way you want it. I had been having a muscular/nerve type problem with shoulder which wasn't going away, so after a month of painkillers I decided to seek out some help...which came in the form of Karen at Physiologix. She advised I only booked in for a 30 mins session, beeing a newbie and never having had any type of massage before. Good advice! She was pretty amazing at finding the sore spots and then working the hell out of them. I won't lie, at certain points (the injured parts) the massage is pretty sore and was glad I was facing down so she couldn't see the tears in my eyes. I was a strange "good pain" though as felt that it must surely be doing some good being so sore! You go in feeling like a lumpy, knotty piece of meat, but afterwards you feel like a smoothed out piece of dought that Paul Hollywood would be proud of! Sports massage is only one of the many treatments they offers, as well as Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Acupuncture and other stuff.

I am a seasoned client of several massage and physiotherapy places. I have had quite a range of…read moreOsteopaths and Massage Therapists. Every place has its own group of therapists, some specialise in one area of physical and personal well-being. Active Health has been on my radar for a long time now. I made the step today to pay them a visit. Mainly for one reason: Briana Eades. Back in 2010 she was one of the leading masseuses that was treating my Sciatica and lower back problems. Her approach was novel, personal and very effective. She introduced me to new ways of experiencing Massage Therapy. The Deep Tissue Massage sessions are done with clear expertise and skill. Clearly she does give it her all, but stays bright and joyful throughout! I suspect that Briana has possibly 'used' me to expand her knowledge during my treatment as on her suggestions I was introduced to the G5 Machine (deep tissue) and Manual Lymphatic Draining (a type of massage that helps the lymph nodes drain and is incredible relaxing!) and this only makes her a very versatile member of the Active Health Team. From their website: "Briana is qualified in a number of massage therapy techniques including Remedial, Sports, Deep Tissue, Swedish/Relaxation, Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Aromatherapy including Raindrop Technique." She takes detailed notes during the sessions and will adjust the therapy to suit the current need and wants of the client. On arrival I was asked to fill out the personal contact details and the physical issues you need assistance with. Some medical details and insurance details are also asked for. The massage room I had was of an adequate size, heated and no distractions. (well there is some classical music in the background). The table was comfortable and had an warming pad to avoid getting cold. Nice touch. After the initial consultation - as we shared a history it wasn't that long of a chat- we got straight into it. Working on some problem points on my legs and lower back, some tension release around the neck & shoulders and to finish with the Lymphatic Drainage. I felt reborn! I will definitely make another appointment, and as I understand they have evening times available too. This session was an hour and cost £42 - well worth every penny!

It actually looks like a small hospital more than GP clinic and takes in quite a few local practices. I booked an appointment with my clinic as usual for a blood test arrived a little bit early seeing as it was my first visit. There's plenty of parking and even though the carpark looked full, there was people constantly coming and going so I was able to get a spot. Inside there's a large foyer area and cafe, and you just need to check the signs for where your GP practice is now located. There's 5 different GP practices and they all operate separately so it isn't really too different from how it was before, just in a more modern building. There's other services too, like podiatry, physiotherapy, children's services, adult mental health services, speech therapy, district nursing, health visiting and social work (taken from the website). On my way out, I popped to the cafe and was impressed by the prices and selection - I got a chocolate crunchie slice and the staff were really friendly. I really like this new building - it's about 5 minutes closer to my house and is really well set up. My only grizzle is that I couldn't get the free wifi to work but that's not the end of the world!

Sadly, I have only ever managed a trial membership: the cost, against using GCC's perfectly adequate facilities, made me decide against a longer commitment. It has brand new equipment, plenty of classes, both during the day and in the evening, and there are plenty of different rooms, making it feel more relaxed than most gyms. It never gets too busy- most gym memberships are hardly used- and the pool area is immaculate. It has several jacuzzis and sauna rooms, beautifully clean changing rooms and on-site massage. There's even a little shop, for when you forget your trunks. The downside is the cost- it pitches above the average, and the way that they ask about your current gym suggests that they are trying to offer individual deals that are most likely to attract you. They also do different deals for limited use, something I find useless: if I have a gym, I want to be able to use when I like, not just during the day. However, if you can afford it, it is far from the madding crowd.
