I've come to this location for at least 15 years. I've renewed driver's licenses, health cards, vehicle permits, etc. The agents are always courteous. Prior to the pandemic, wait times were 1 to 1.5 hours. There was an online chart giving typical wait times throughout the week. Very useful. During pandemic times, most common services require an appointment but a few don't have appointments. When you arrive, there is a pre-screening person at the front. Because of appointments, there are far fewer people in the waiting area. You still get a ticket to wait but wait times are now 5 to 15 mins only! The waiting seats have signs to block off seats to ensure physical distancing. There are screens showing the called ticket numbers showing you which agent booth to go to. There are 43 booths. Certain booths are assigned certain functions. They accept debit and credit cards for payment. There is no free WiFi but part of the waiting area has access to the free TD Bank WiFi. Mobile internet is also available even though the office is in the basement. There are no customer washrooms but you can use the mall washrooms. read more

I am giving them 4 stars because they don't get enough credit. During the pandemic, the appointments were easy to make online and once there, I didn't have to wait very long to have my number called. The social distancing was good and most of the staff treated me well. Meanwhile, I saw them having to deal with some angry clients, so extra respect for keeping their cool. Now, It did take me 2-3 visits here after moving to Ontario to get everything done. You know how it is -you can bring your entire filing cabinet with you and the kitchen sink, but there's always going to be something that you're missing. This is sad in this digital age where everything can be accessed from anywhere, but it is the reality of the government - still stuck somewhere in the mid 90s. Here's something to watch out for - if they say you're missing something, don't turn around and go home right away. I clarified and it turned out my documents were actually good enough. Sometimes the person at the counter isn't aware or hasn't been working there long enough. If you have to go and come back with more documents, have them write out for you a checklist of what you need to bring next time. GOOD LUCK! read more

I received a notice today 'telling' (not asking) me to renew my vehicle plate. The plate in question came off a vehicle I sold over a year and a half ago. I know I can keep it to put on another vehicle in future so why they are even looking at this is beyond me. The cost for them to do so - plus send out a notice is tax money wasted. I was told this was more of a reminder but it's written more like a threat. The time to send a reminder would have been around the renewal date and not 1.5 years later. Not buying their reasoning. Now! To get a hold of them to find out more about the notice, I called the 1-800-387-3445 # at the bottom of the notice and got what sounded like a fax tone. Looked them up on line and got a different 1-800-267-8097# and that too got me a fax tone. Ended up having to call them directly (long distance) through their 416 area code number. I mentioned this to the rep I spoke with and she didn't care. Rambled at the speed of light about a survey and hung up. To the folks who work there... the name of your office is SERVICE Ontario. Kindly familiarize yourself with the definition of 'service' & we the public are who pay your salaries so be nice! read more

I wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to Service Ontario staff in Ingersoll. I went in, today, to get a license plate for a new vehicle I had just purchased. It may have taken just all of 5 minutes or so and I was all sorted with the most amazing, knowledgeable, genial and helpful staff with lots of smiles (albeit with masks on :) ). I wish most agencies were that efficient, it'll make all our lives that much easier, especially in these Pandemic times. Don't forget to bring your child's report card to show proof of residency!! Apparently a Student ID plus a passport, birth certificate and current health card are not enough to show you live in Ontario. A newly 16 year should have a drivers license, credit card statement, utility bill, bank statement etc. with his/her address on it. The documentation sent in the mail says "3 documents required", why isn't the document list sent out as well? BUT, no get this, the document list that I received from the no-so-helpful service center employee says "All documents must be originals. Photocopies or print-outs of online bills or documents are not accepted". SO, do they know that all report cards are on-line? So how does this work now? read more

Greetings, We went to Service Ontario branch at the below address for public service on Sept 10, 2019.  777 Bay Street Lower level Toronto, Ontario Although the waiting time was long, we were extremely amazed by the African Canadian employee, Tracy at counter 15: She anticipated our needs just by our questions She is very knowledgeable and constantly provided tips and guidance which may be useful later on.  She shows obviously great enthusiasm for working. etc In conclusion, Tracy was so friendly, professional, efficient and punctual that we believe she is a model of public servant that would inspire teenagers to join the public service. read more

I arrived just after 8:30am, without an appointment, hoping to see someone before my work started for the day. Around 9:30am, I checked in with reception and was still about an hour away from talking to someone. Staff were all very nice, but I ended up having to leave as I ran out of time. Frustrating experience because it was incredibly busy. The board read 104 minutes maximum waiting time, and it took me all of that in order to get and finish my 2 minute transaction exchanging vehicle registration for address change. I wish they had a queue just for quick transactions like mine. While I was there, they cut off G1 testing at 12 (this is one of very few ServiceOntario locations that also does just G1 testing, with no roadtest offered here). They have a monitor and automated voice prompts that tell you the next number they're serving. The numbers are not sequential, so it was frustrating waiting for B1027 to show up.... when I started it was B1019 and most of the numbers served were A series or S series numbers so I had no idea where I was in the queue or if it was safe for me to even get food. The waiting area is surprisingly large, you'd never suspect it looking from the entranceway outside. It's quite modern in design and has been nicely renovated recently. It feels like a fancy airport waiting area more than it does a government service office. Don't be like me - set up an appointment online beforehand for priority service! read more

I had to have my health card renewed. I tried to make an online appointment, but there were none available until later in the month. So I decided to take a chance and just go to the location at 777 Bay, prepared to wait. It's a very large space, with seating for many people. I was given a number as soon as I went in, and I think I waited for no more than 30 minutes in total before my number was called. The young woman who handled the paperwork and took my picture was very nice to deal with. It was altogether a very easy process. read more

Was 13th in the "no appointment" line and there were 6 people in the "with appointment line"....then when given a queue ticket, at least 40 people were served before me...all I needed was a car sellers printout that took all of 3 minutes...clearly the queue system sucks at this location. read more

This doesn't make me cooler than you brainiacs, it's just a different approach, and guess what? At Service Ontario, they don't make it tougher on my kind... in fact, I was in and out in under thirty minutes. I needed my health card renewed, and the process was very easy. However I didn't have to wait in that line, I went to the empty VIP line for appointments only and received a number right away! Within 5 minutes my number was called, my photo taken, paperwork processed by a friendly guy who enjoyed my excitement over not having to wait, and I was out the door, walking past people who were still waiting in line just to get a number. Quicker service than I expected. Went there around 10.00AM in order to do the G1 exam. I had to wait around 35 mins, after that everything was nice and quick, completed my vision test and examination in approx 70 mins. Be sure to arrive with a 2-3 hour margin if you are taking the G1 written test, that way you will have plenty of time to complete everything. read more

When I pick up my number at 2:25pm the message monitor says "The current longest wait time is 40 minutes." No problem; I hadn't made an appointment and I know this is a busy place, so I had downloaded some shows from Netflix to watch. I settle into my seat and watch two twenty+ minute episodes of "We Speak Dance". I look up; they are still serving M1016; I have M1020. I watch a third episode. 90 minutes after my arrival I'm still waiting. I watch a 4th episode. Now the message says the longest wait time is 91 minutes. Does this mean another 91 minutes from now for me, or 91 minutes for the people arriving now? Yes, I was foolish not to make an appointment. "The current longest wait time is 94 minutes." Someone with coffee breath sits down next to me. "A l'heure actuelle, le temps d'attente est de 95 minutes au maximum." I'm running out of Netflix downloads to watch. "The current longest wait time is 97 minutes." Why do people with coffee breath always breathe with their mouths open? Ommmmmm... My number is finally called at 4:08 and my health card and driver's licence are renewed by Tracey, who is friendly and efficient. Her service is why I'm giving a better rating than what my wait might imply. Other than the longer-than originally-estimated wait and the neighbours with halitosis, it wasn't bad. Make an appointment if you can, and if not, then bring something to amuse yourself while you wait. Also PLEASE fill in your paperwork BEFORE you get to the counter, and make sure you have all your ID ready -- I saw people arriving unprepared to the counters, and this really slows things down! read more

It helps immensely if you have all the paperwork you are asked to bring, and I would even bring some extra just in case. They really do put the service in ServiceOntario here. Everyone was quite friendly and helpful. I will come again, but mostly because I'm obligated to do so. Five stars so they don't take away my healthcare. Oh dear me. I tend to be fairly enthusiastic in my allocation of Yelp stars, but there is no way I could give this place more than 3. I've had to go there three times and I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than go there again. The subterranean location increases the feeling that this is the waiting room before you enter the depths of hell. I think it tends to be a bit quieter early in the morning, but my quickest visit was still approximately 20mins. You wait to get a number to go wait some more. The chairs are hard with mystery stains. I recommend bringing a book but reading it is potentially perilous-the numbers and letters seem to come up almost randomly so it's hard to predict how long you'll be there. Meanwhile, there's the fun of screaming children and the rest of the coughing, sneezing waiting room and looking at the empty desks devoid of assistants. When you eventually get served, the staff are generally nice. I wasn't as impressed by the first person I dealt with though-she kept moaning to the girl next to her about how hungry she was, scowled, ignored me to eavesdrop on the conversation next to her and then spelled my name wrong for my OHIP card so I ended up stuck with a second visit. I'm trying to think of positive things to say. Apart from one rude person, most have been nice. I suppose I also can't complain too much about getting a card that ensures I have health care. WOW! I continue to be impressed with government offices here in Toronto. It's so ODD to have a pleasant experience dealing with the .GOV. I'm from the US and when you go to the DMV you generally have to block out an entire day. It's just one of those things you accept. I arrived at 777 Bay street fairly late in the day, around 3:30. The offices are bright, shiny and I didn't see anyone with a scowl on their face. Very strange indeed! Even better, nobody gave me shit about my cookie and coffee. In the US there are signs everywhere. No Dogs, no food, no drinks, no smoking, NO NO NO! Because of this I tend to be an outlaw and look for ways I can break the law each day. I'm serious. Don't tell me I can't smoke indoors. It's the law, and if you aren't taking a dirt nap you probably f'ing know this! Anywho, my number was called in about 30 minutes! A far cry from the Beetlejuice-esque 2-4 hours+ I'm used to. My rep, Ivan, was professional and very friendly. I also noticed that they were sitting in $900 Herman Miller chairs! It's like the .COM all over again but on a governmental scale. Well, if they're happy then we're happy I suppose... There was one slight hiccup, but it involved my license back in the states and not Ontario. I was issued a conditional license and Ivan said to just come back up and see him so I didn't have to wait in line tomorrow. Blah. I'm on the phone right now with the Washington State DMV and the computer told me the wait time is 20 minutes. This is normal in the US. I'll probably either be hung up on or transferred to the wrong department. I wuv you governmental office of Ontario. :) EDIT: My second trip here to finalise my DL was a similar experience. I just waited for the reception and stated that I'd been told I didn't need to wait in line. The receptionist said "Well, you typically need proof of that but I'll let it slide." This is by far the best government building I have been to. The good: - super clean - computers available for people without iphones to entertain themselves - reasonably accurate wait times displayed at registration desk - efficient process for maintaining line order - you get your number, and then you sit down, and they call numbers on huge reader boards, with arrows showing you which way to go - you are allowed to have drinks (in Niagara you are not) - there was always been a free chair for me when I have been here - everyone who works here is really happy and nice. I really like that they can wear their own (pretty casual) clothes - no uniforms, but there are also no blaring logos either. The people that work here generally look like models. The bad: - the lines are still kind of long. I went once at 1000 on a Tuesday and it was only 20mins but at 1300 on a Thursday it was over an hour. - it's very boring. - In April when I neeced to renew my insurance sticker, I'm glad I went to a different location because I needed an eTest and I would have been really upset if I waited in line, then realized that, then had to take the streetcar home, get my car etested, take the streetcar back, wait in line again, and then get a sticker. I'm glad I went to a different location (in my car) that day. Overall, if I were dealing with a licencing or health card issue, I would only ever consider coming to this office. All other offices are inferior. If I was dealing with something directly related to my car itself, I might consider going to an office that I could drive to, in case I needed to do an errand (like an etest) read more

This place is usually super courteous despite the wait and some times extended working hours....when i walked in two in the afternion to get my name changed.. I didnt expect to wait long which i was correct about. Thouht the service would ne great but was quite surprised at how much the person assisting me didnt really seem to care. His coworkers seemed to he getting the more difficult cases as he kept amswering to her questions rather than paying attention to mine. You know how you are not supposed to smile in your drivers license? Im sure that if i had a huge big teeth smile....it would be the next photo on my license! That would have been fun! He didnt even tell me that the photo was taking when i was taking the shot for the health card... Talk abt an embarrassing shot there. All in all i got out no trouble. They are pretty organized and the people are usually friendly. Really the luck of the draw. Can feel like a really large walk in clinic with 20 random doctors you can be placed with. Not sure if i like the whole concept of a bell ringing everytime a New number was called. It was dinging so many times over the course of a minute my neck started to ache. I appreciate the important work that this office does for a huge number of people. I wouldn't be nearly as frustrated with it if I didn't need its services now and then. But it really seems like the people at the desks sometimes make up rules and procedures as they go. I've had a bank statement rejected as proof of residence because "it needs to be for a chequing or savings account". When I pointed out that the word "chequing" was right there on the statement, since in fact it was for that kind of account, the employee was "pretty sure that refers to something else". I've renewed my health card a few times as an out-of-province student. I've been sent away with only vague instructions about what additional documents I needed (not listed in any of the forms of course), then sent away again when my best guess at what I needed was wrong. The last time I did it, the employee insisted that he could only renew the card through the actual school term (August-May), which was odd because it had been renewed for a full calendar year every single other time. Anyone else I know who's dealt with this kind of thing has similar, but distinct, stories. But what finally motivated me to write this review was my experience today: staff letting people wait in a long and slow line, all the way to the front, and only then turning them away because the office was closing before they could get through the wait time. I don't believe for a second that there was no way to let people know before they finished waiting in line. I've had some perfectly good experiences too, but overall it really seems like a lot of the people working there could use some additional training or something. read more

Probably one of the best government offices I've been to. Receptionist is very nice despite how busy she is. The reps/tellers are... "Okay." Got in and out of there in less than 2 hours. The waiting period isn't that long but the receptionist line can take a while since, from my experience, there's only one person doing that job. read more

I have to admit it; I actually had a pleasant time in a government regulated office today. I keep getting health card renewal notices in the mail (I still have my red and white card; well half of it. You can still see the number and swipe it, but the top half that I had taped together a dozen times is now lost) and I've ignored every one of them so far. A friend in the health care field had told me to hang on to the old card as long as I could, or until they 'find' you. Well, I guess I can' t hide anymore. Bummer! I was really against changing my card, having the picture taken, etc, etc... However, when I went today to accompany my better half to have his changed, among other services, I was surprised at the concise nature of the office. The wait time was less than 5 minutes. The agents were thorough, talkative and funny. Enjoyable. And I learned why every resident of Ontario has to change their health card, and I can now respect this process. So, I'm next... In the same space along with OHIP and Transportation services, you can get your marriage license, your death license (not sure how that works) and pick up passport applications and pretty much any kind of government document imaginable, including Publications Ontario. If you need governmental or legal documents pertaining to building codes, medical information, business management, or pretty much any document of the like, you can purchase it on whim at Publications. I was skeptical of the services at Service Ontario, but can agreeably put my foot in my mouth now due to my assumptions on it. read more

What you would expect from a government building, slow employees working at a snails pace. Arrived at 10:20am for a drivers license exchange, and took a ticket with the number T1013, they were currently working on T1007. It has been over 130 minutes since I've been sitting in this chair, and they're on T1008! lol Can they not give some sort of realistic time estimate? I mean, I could have gone and watched the extended version of Ben Hur, or slow cooked some ribs in a crock pot. The monitor in front of me has been assuring me for over 2 hours that the maximum wait time is about 12 minutes. Due to this experience, I have developed trust issues with monitors displaying information. I would like to say I will not be returning, but that's not really an option the way the system runs. And the beat goes on.... See you guys next year! Edit: At a kiosk finally! Only took 160 mins, I can see the worker next to mine, he's browsing the adidas online website, while people wait! I had set aside the entire afternoon, predicting that having to renew BOTH OHIP and license, as well as change my address would just throw these cranky government people for a loop. Boy, was I wrong. After lining up for directions, I was placed in the OHIP line first, as this was the faster line. Before I could even orient myself, my number was called. The clerk was super friendly and very fast. She then placed my number back into the queue to wait for my license. Again, before I could orient myself, my number had been called and I had to literally run to the wicket, lest they assume I'm not there and move on. This guy was also incredibly friendly and efficient. Altogether, it only took about 10 minutes!!!! AMAZING. read more

Wow. Glad to see I'm not the only one who had a stress-free and somewhat pleasant experience with this place... When I was getting my passport recently I didn't have a Health Card with my photo on it and I needed it to support my existence basically. They wouldn't accept the old red and white one I had been sporting for over 20 years. So I rushed to this location in order to get a temporary sheet to fax over but didn't have anything with my address on it, so they turned me away and I had to come back the next morning. I don't like mentioning this sort of thing in reviews, but the girl who pre-checked my documents was stunning! I could not believe she was actually working at this place. Anyway, she was also super polite and patient with people who were barking at her. And there were a lot of cranky customers to be had this day. I got my number and waited for a good hour. This was around 9:00am so I guess there's really no avoiding the wait. I had my phone with so just checked Facebook and texted friends to kill time. Also played about 20 games of solitaire. I recommend having a phone or iPod with games on hand. Or even a book, because the wait is long and boring. They finally called my number and I went to the booth. The dude didn't really say much other than to tell me to stand for my photo and that was it. Said my health card would arrive in a week and it did. Done and done. Apart from the wait it was so effortless and stress free. read more

Shockingly nice, clean, efficient and fast government office. I went there twice in the past month, once for a health card and once for a driver's license. The first time I waited a total of 7 minutes, including the time spent in the reception line to get my number. The second time I waited 4 minutes. There is ample seating (not that you'll need it for too long) and all the agents are polite and helpful. Still in amazed disbelief that I could walk in and out in less than 10 minutes with all my paperwork taken care of. I practically skipped out of there singing Oh Canada! read more

I recently moved to Toronto from the US, so of course I had to apply for a health card and take care of other business. The problem here is not the wait times. It moves relatively quickly--I waited for about 35 minutes, so it was entirely reasonable. But the attitude of the people processing paperwork is abysmal. Each and every one of them was rude--from the entry point where numbers were issued, to the actual clerk, who acted really bothered and annoyed that she had to do anything for me and then acted like she was doing me a huge favor and might just reject my paperwork at any moment just because she could. I get it-- it's probably not fun sitting in a char all day dealing with people's bureaucratic nonsense, but they picked their line of work. The least they could do is PRETEND to be helpful. read more

An employee at this location refused to get me a new health card because according to him I did not have sufficient documentation when had with me my passport, a copy of my lease, and my T4 tax statement - more than sufficient documentation. He was very rude when talking with me - so rude that his colleague told him to step away from the desk after helping me. The next day I returned with even more proof of residence - the same employee remembered me from the previous day and refused to even serve me. He told me to "get out of line" and accused me of "cussing him out", which absolutely did not happen. I went to a different location and the pleasant staff there helped me within minutes to get my new health card. read more
