Then I had the truly marvelous pasta special, penne with shrimp, wilted greens, and tomatoes. And a glass of a marvelous local red. My husband loved his hearty tuna steak and potatoes. We said no to dessert but were still spoiled with a shot of local herbal anise liqueur and small squares of a caramel like cake. Our waiter was tremendously friendly and personable. Bring cash -- prices are very fair but they don't take credit cards.

It's typically packed full of locals with a couple of tourists squeezed in. The staff are really friendly and helpful. They have a healthy mix of traditional Spanish and more modern options. Officially it is called La Terracita, but the main sign says "Rapha's".

I'm 44 and this is the worst Tapas I've ever had - quite a statement I'm sure you'll agree but let…read moreme fill you in. Now, I'm not a food snob, I've been to Nandos....several times. I even enjoy rubbish food now and again (mostly when I'm drunk to be honest) but when I'm not expecting it....that's when it hurts the most. The service and ambience in the place in generally excellent - the menu was basic for Tapas (nothing I couldn't get in even the most basic Glaswegian joint, not a city that's particularly well served by Spanish food) but nothing that threw up signals of just how terrible things were going to get. The "starters" were actually not bad (we opted for the set menu of 8 tapas selected by the "chef" and it was divided into an intro of cold tapas and then the main dishes) - we had olives, two cheeses, some bread and some deep fried peppers with rock salt none of which were amazing but none of them warned us of the horrors to come. The mains were as follows - patatas bravas. These were large potatoes cut into long slices (I thought it was a yam or sweet potato at first) which had managed to be both incredibly overcooked and incredibly greasy and served with a peculiar sweet tomato sauce which was familiar but I couldn't place at first. There were also "meatballs" - these were appalling. My three year old rejected them - I tasted the sauce on them and suddenly I recognised it. It was the same sweet and sour sauce you get on ribs at your local Chinese takeaway. And the sauce on the "papatas bravas" had been the same! Next, deep fried prawns - I've had Tapas all over the world but can't remember ever having deep fried prawns before. These ones were encased in a thick batter and served again with a very familiar sauce and some lettuce (?). Then it hit me - the batter was exactly the same as you get on sweet and sour pork balls from your local budget Chinese restaurant. Guess what? There's a Chinese restaurant right next door. We ate less than half of the main dishes and that's rare for me - if I'm paying for food I'll generally eat it no matter what but in this case all four of us just couldn't bear to eat what was in front of us. The waitress asked us if everything was ok and although I'm usually incredibly bad at complaining, I did point out the similarity between what we had in front of us and a cheap Chinese takeaway and she sort of laughed and said "maybe if you go next door to the Chinese place it tastes of Spanish food". Like I said at the beginning of the review, I'm not a food snob - I'm not complaining about slight regional variations in chorizo or the way they grill their blood sausage instead of frying it.....this was terrible Chinese food dressed up as Tapas for unfortunate dinners that haven't ever experienced anything even close to the real thing. I feel sad that anyone coming to Mallorca could leave and think this was in any way related to genuine Spanish food, it isn't.

Not saying it was "to die for" but it was good. The service and the atmosphere was very good. We started off with red wine which was perfect. Then came all the tapas.. I do agree the meatballs were "eh ok" but everything else was good! The bread with the ham and tomatoes was delicious to start off.. we had the spinach croquettes, the prawns with the garlic oil, and the carne meat on the skewer were all good! When the check came, they gave us 2 complimentary local shots .. Which tasted like cough medicine .. But hey they didnt need to do offer that.

The paella was wonderful. Delicious flavors. Takes 30 minutes so place that order as soon as you arrive. We shared several tapas which where large enough for 4 to taste. My favorite was the figs wrapped in bacon. Only downside was you can't see the water from this spot, but food was great.

The couscous was extremely good as well. Very flavorful. I wanted to order another item but sadly was too full. The owner is amazing and so kind. Note this place is not known for traditional tapas, but more of a global modern twist. Some of their tapas were one of a kind and cannot be found anywhere else in Palma. The inside was super cute and would be great for a date night. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. At the end of the night, we even asked her for a recommendation of her favorite local tapas place in Palma and her recommendation did not disappoint. This is what we ordered: Toast Mallorca - There was sobrassada, cheese & tomato jam au gratin on top. You've never had toast like this before! The jam added so much flavor to the toast. The trio was a perfect combination of smokiness and sweetness. Iberian ham "Bellota" - Probably the best cut of ham we had in all of Mallorca! It was the tenderest piece of ham we've had. You could taste the quality of the meat. Roll & Roll - these were vegetarian rolls filled with Mediterranean goodness; I'm not a vegetarian but these rolls were very good! The sauce added so much flavor to the rolls. Eggplant carpaccio - if you must order one dish and one dish only, this is it! Nowhere in Mallorca will you find eggplant carpaccio. It was absolutely delicious! The eggplant was covered with truffle oil, almonds, and parmesan cheese and was full of flavor with every bite. Octopus, 13% style - The Octopus was seasoned with spicy paprika on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. The octopus was good, but did not compare to the other tapas we loved. This place is an absolute must try while in Mallorca!
