I went to a great class on Thursday morning at 10 with Mari. I left feeling energized and optimistic. Historically I have struggled in the midst of a Vinyasa Flow, but this class was a refreshing exception! Maris pace was motivating with the allowance for personal freedom. She was clear with her verbal instructions, which she supplemented with physical demonstrations, placing herself in various pockets of the room so everyone could see what to do and stay together. She added some modifications to poses that I had not encountered before in my 20 years of practice, like an angular heel downward dog. The thing I appreciated most about this Vinyasa class was her intuition when the average energy and stamina of the students started to flag. She reset us with breath and grounding exercises for active breaks. This enabled me to feel strong for the entire duration of the hour. Thank you Session Yoga and thank you Mari! read more

This is my new favorite yoga studio! It's super easy to sign up for a class online! It's about $8 a class and I love that they have evening classes! It's best to arrive early so you can get a good spot to place your mat. Make sure you bring a water bottle and a towel because the classes get hot! They have recommendations on their website in case you've never been to one of their classes! They check you in on their tablet before class and then you're free to go into the room and pick a spot. The instructors play pretty hip music which I love. It's pretty easy to find parking if you go early enough. It's located in between Side Car Bar and Falora! read more

I love this studio. I never enjoyed yoga until I started going to Session-- so glad I gave it a shot! It's completely different than the yoga I'd tried in the past at places like LA Fitness. Some classes play music. Good music at that-- sometimes I have to keep myself from Shazzaming in the middle of class. The power yoga class is fast paced, so you get the satisfaction of a cardio workout. One of the reasons I never liked yoga in the past was that I felt it wasn't invigorating enough. Not the case here! I leave satisfied. And sweaty. If you don't like to sweat, maybe not the place for you. The atmosphere is welcoming. There's no awkwardness about laughing in class. Actually, the instructors are often the jokers! I've made friends and business connections since I started going because its easy to bond there. I recommend this studio to everyone and anyone-- whether they are "into" yoga or not because typically people are surprised by the way they do things at Session. There's a surprising male presence there too-- probably because there are power yoga classes that are great for strength building. I wholeheartedly say give this studio a go. read more

Session yoga coins itself as "the power yoga for the people." And I agree! For starters, you'll get greeted at the door with a big smile. The studio is super cozy yet bright. This studio is known for their heated power vinyasa flow classes that are heated (anywhere between 85-90 degrees). I'm a beginner, so I opted for the Yoga Basics class. It's 75 minutes long and very approachable Beginners. It's is listed as a "no heat" class, but it was in fact heated, to my surprise. Angela, led the class with great energy. I'll definitely be back to this studio, although I'd love to see more beginner classes on the schedule, as they offer only one at 8am on Sunday's. Classes are $7 cash or $8 online. I suggest paying online and avoiding the line at check in. Bring plenty of water and a towel! read more

Great place, great instructors. Close by so it's my go-to yoga spot, and their karma sessions are free except for a suggested donation to a featured non-profit. So that's pretty cool and just adds to the happy vibe. Sometimes I wish they would turn on a fan. Sometimes I don't want to do hot hot yoga. I was visiting Tucson and needed a place to practice. I came across this place and decided to give it a try. The people and instructor are so friendly. This really made the experience. The practice itself was nice and flowed the instructor did a great job. I'm not advanced but sometimes like to push my limits. I'd love to see the practice gradually work up to advance poses. Call me a basic white girl, wannabe hippie, etc... get the laughs out, and then go do yourself a favor and sign up for a class at Session. Cannot say enough good things about this place. About a year ago I was bit with the hot-yoga bug, and it's been no looking back ever since. I'll emphasize that I know nothing about the lore, history, or religious/spiritual aspects for yoga in terms of determining what is authentic or not. What I do know, is that Session has great friendly instructors who will kick your ass in a workout that is doable for practitioners of all levels. If I'm not mistaken, Session's style is hot vinyasa, or flow, yoga, where they crank the temperature and humidity up in the studio to promote muscle relaxation for better, deeper stretches, while leading you through a series of poses and stretches at the instructor's discretion. So not the same set of moves every time like you'd expect in traditional Bikram-style yoga. You could argue that at its core, yoga is just breathing and stretching, plus some extra mindfulness/meditation. And it is! Which is why yoga at its core is so fantastic, and is something you can practice anywhere, for however short length of time, even by yourself at home. So why Session? For me, sometimes it's nice to have an instructor lead me through their own unique set of stretches, and adds a bit of motivation (yoga is harder than it seems!). Why in person rather than watch a Youtube video with an instructor? a) my home is not as humid/steamy (nor will I ever make it so), and b) a Youtube instructor can't guide/correct your form through a screen :) Anyways, tl;dr, session good, yoga good, etc etc read more

I am sad that I moved across town as this is definitely my favorite yoga studio in Tucson and I miss it! I love the decor of the studio space and the instructors here are all awesome and teach power/vinyasa yoga. It's a great work-out especially compared to other yoga studio classes I've tried in town that I feel are more just stretching classes where I don't break a sweat. The class is lightly heated at 85-ish degrees and humidified as well. Even if you're just visiting from out of town the drop-in rate of $7 is a steal. They do neat things such as their "Karma" classes on Sundays were your $5 cash goes toward a charity. I also went to their annual "Yoga Rave" which was a total blast. read more

I'm used to core power yoga and this is as close as it gets in Tucson! It's fabulous! Hot and steamy vinyasa. More chatterungas than I'm used to which is fine, and also no sun A, B, or C, it all just kind of just flows together. I love the old studio and the incense. Session has turned me into an aspiring yogi! I should start with a disclaimer by saying I really know nothing about Yoga so this review is obviously just based on my own personal experience and opinion. Before I started going to Session in November I'd been to a handful of random yoga classes but had never made it a regular habit. I wish I had found something like Session sooner because I've benefited so much from going just 1-3 times a week. As a super inflexible runner, I've already seen a difference in how I feel overall and how quickly I can recover from workouts, not to mention I can now touch my toes on a regular basis! Most of the classes seem to throw in a lot of hip work which is miserable but wonderful at the same time (ahem... Dave and his 5 minute half pigeons). I think a lot of my knee problems from running all centered around my lack of hip strength and flexibility but I'm seeing lots of improvement! I also have noticed a big change in my back and shoulder flexibility which was also nonexistent. What I love most about Session is that I feel like I get a really good workout there. A lot of other yoga classes I've been to never even caused me to break a sweat but the type of yoga practiced at Session (power vinyasa) never fails to make me leave looking like I just got out of a shower (of sweat...?). They crank up the heat and humidity which makes me need to focus on my breathing (so I don't pass out) and also helps me get deeper into a lot of the poses. Each of their classes seem to be centered around the same basic format but each teacher throws in their own spin on it which gives you some variety. I can see how a veteran yogi might find their classes somewhat monotonous but I personally like that I can work on a lot of the same poses and improve on them before moving onto crazier ones. They also offer a lot of modifications to make poses a little easier or more difficult or to adjust for an injury you might have. One of these days I'll be able to start doing some of the more difficult modifications... right? Aside from the physical benefits, I love practicing at Session because they put a huge emphasis on your mental state. They always remind you to connect with your mat and your practice and to not worry about whatever else you have going on outside of yoga because you are "exactly where you are supposed to be doing exactly what you are supposed to be doing" in that moment. The always remind you to focus on your breathing to help center yourself. It is such a beautiful thing to allow yourself to be a little selfish and spend the time and money on your own physical and mental well being. As far as pricing goes - definitely either bring cash or get a 10 class pass (works out to $6.50 a class and doesn't expire for a year) unless you're going to attend more than 3 classes every week. Also, bring your own mat and towel (seriously bring a towel.. you'll need it) to save $2-4 on rentals. Also, check out the karma class on Sundays which is only a $5 cash donation for a 90 minute class. All of the money goes to a local charity too! They offer a lot of evening classes (except Friday when they usually offer workshops) and have added a few more times since I've started going based on requests. The 6pm classes definitely fill up but they always seem to squeeze everyone in. You end up getting really close to your fellow yogis on those days but I think everyone has a good time and I never find it limiting as far as my practice goes. I actually don't mind it being a small space; I kind of love that it is a small local studio because there is a great sense of community. read more

This is my favorite yoga studio in the city (and that's a lot to say for someone who practices yoga 5-7x/week and has been to almost all the studios around town! I love the space, the vibe is very welcoming. The location is great at Broadway Village, very quaint with old school brick etc. The decor is instyle, very "lulu" ish. I love all the teachers, especially the owners Chelsea and Kristin. I have grown to like the heat at Session...its cooler than the typical "hot" yoga or bikram. The prices are a little higher than the rest of Tucson (think $7/class vs $5/class) but note that the price is the same for 60 & 75 minute classes, so it technically evens out! They also offer great workshops and a donation class during the week. I have had teachers that graduated Session's teacher training program around the city, who also do a great job. All in all, this is where I chose to spend my free time, and I love it here. read more

Let me preface this with my opinion of yoga. I very much enjoy the physical part of yoga, but find myself irritated when the yoga masters spend 10 minutes talking about the "word of the day" or their recent existential crisis. My experience at Session was so positive because it was just yoga. The class leader wasn't preachy, and we moved right into our flow class with essentially no editorializing about the balance of the universe. I decided to try Session Yoga after getting a Groupon for a five session pass. After going a handful of times, I've decided I generally like this place and even bought a few more classes at full price. I really appreciate the hard work and love Chelsea and Kristen have put into the studio and have never had a bad class. I think that both women (who are the only instructors I've worked with at Session) are very patient, talented and do a great job at balancing a fun, challenging practice with important moments to help you relax and find your center. I also really love that these classes are a bit longer than most -- a full hour and a half on the weekends is so perfect for helping me decompress for the week. Plus the studio itself is absolutely beautiful and inspiring in its own right. I only have a few *small* complaints. I occasionally find the classes a bit repetitive -- but I think that can be a really good thing for beginners and people who are looking for a style of yoga they can really sink their teeth into. I prefer to mix it up and face a new challenge each time. I also think the classes are a bit overpriced for Tucson. All other studios I've been to in the area charge between $4 and $6. Session Yoga is $8 per class ($7 if you pay cash). Those are New York or D.C. prices here in Old Pueblo -- and I would know, I've lived in both places. That being said, this is a heated studio with, like I said, longer classes... so I think this is something that can be overlooked. Lastly (and I'll admit this is silly), I'd argue there's a certain obsession with Lululemon there. It's not like you can't practice there if you aren't properly attired in some Lulu leggings, but I sometimes feel judged when I'm not clad in the overpriced yoga retailer's clothes. I don't necessarily think the owners/instructors perpetuate that feeling, but they do sport the brand as well. read more

I have been teaching at multiple studios from AZ,LA,NYC,Seattle, etc and Session by far is one of my favorite to practice and be at. I love this studio! To comment on Franklin's and Christina's reviews, I have to disagree. Session is all about the new, the innovative, and taking yoga and turning it into something fun, vibrant and full of life. Maybe they prefer a more traditional approach. In my practice, I try to find ways to break the mold and push the boundaries, and Session does just that. It keeps you coming back. I've been to a lot of different studios, and I really appreciate how open and welcoming the staff is, particularly Chelsea, the owner. Where else can you listen to pop music, do some hip-hop yoga, laugh out loud and sweat your face off? Nowhere. LOVE LOVE LOVE L-O-V-E- this studio! It's one of the things I look forward to all weekend! I practice at Session 1-2 a week and love it. Its not only a great work out, there are great instructors and everyone there is really nice. You will see a lot of the same people week after week, and the place has a nice sense of community. I love the space, the wall art, the prices, the incense during Shavasana, Chelsea's wisdom in class and most importantly THE SOUNDTRACK for class! Always a great musical selection and not always what you expect from a yoga class. This place is one of the only power studios in Tucson, and if you live in town it's the best option. As other posters said, be prepared to sweat. I'd bring a hand towel for your forehead and arms, wear a bandana, and a bath towel to lie on your mat....cause you will be dripping sweat within about 30 minutes. The classes I find challenging, but rewarding. The first class I went to, my body ached for a week straight! But now I can't get enough and go quite often. Bonus: Karma class at 12 noon on Sunday. $5 cash donation, 100% of the money goes to a local charity, 2 teachers so lots of assists and 90 minutes of yoga. That's better than church! Usually when people think of hot yoga, they think of extremely slow flows... Session Yoga is different with their hot yoga and do more of a vinyasa/power Yoga style, which I love! I do half Ironman, full marathons and Barre, and I would say this is the best type of yoga for my style. This is BY FAR my favorite yoga spot in Tucson. And the closest to what I'm used to back home in Texas. The staff is super friendly and patient with everyone who comes in. Compared to what I'm used to, a drop in $7 yoga class is not bad at all! (But I can see this being a draw back for college students as other places can be $4 or $5 for a drop in). But it's not just any yoga class, it's truly Power Vinyasa Flow. Other places don't come close to the real thing as this one does. I love the style of instruction (particularly Jessie): 1. This is the type of Vinyasa flow that I love - full of cardio, core work, toning of muscles, and balancing - it's a 100% workout. And you're left drenched in sweat. The transitions are smoothly done and fully connected from pose to pose where there's no break in your practice. (other places talk too much about each pose and it becomes distracting and makes your yoga practice jerky or without connection) 2. You're given freedom to do arm balances/head stands and variations other than what is being led during the practice (other places want you to stick to their poses). 3. Inspiring, modern music that helps drive the energy of the yoga practice. Perhaps because music speaks to me in all aspects of my life, and especially with yoga. 4. The way that the yoga practice led is in a very calming, relaxing, but empowering manner. Other places lead the practice in a manner that can stress you out (again, by the talking too much), and that should never happen in your yoga practice! 5. The BEST part is the instructors may actually come around and MASSAGE you (especially why I love Jessie)! As Thai massage is part of the yoga practice, this place practices that!!! It's the ONLY yoga studio I've found in Tucson where this is done. It's an invaluable gift that these instructors give to you. And I don't understand why other places don't do this too!!! I would advise to come 15 minutes early if you can for the afternoon classes and even some of the morning classes, as the room fills up quickly! The studio itself is beautiful and calming with nice wooden floors and large windows to let the sunlight in. Session is my favorite yoga studio in Tucson. I've tried out several studios around town and Session really provides everything I want without being too "hippie." Every class is a hot power vinyasa flow class with great music, and they are HOT, so get ready to sweat. Unlike other studios I've been to in Tucson, the instructors here will walk around the room the entire class rather than practicing with you at the front of the room. I really like this technique, because I focus on my own pose, rather than trying to make my pose look exactly like the instructors. Also, while they walk around the instructors will adjust you to make sure you are doing the poses correctly. Jess Gale's 10AM Monday power yoga classes are kick-ass! Her fire sequences are challenging and liberating. She guides the class through transitions smoothly and always with careful instruction. But the class is hard. The class is very fast-paced as power yoga/vinyasa should be! I have been practicing yoga consistently for 7 years, I feel that my skills are average but I love to challenge myself. I would not recommend this particular class for beginners. I moved to Tucson from San Francisco 6 months ago and I have been diligently looking for an upbeat, modern studio and when they had Florence & the Machine, instrumental Nirvana tracks and Death Cab for Cutie blasting while we worked through sun salutations, I absolutely fell in love!
