As we are making our way along the North Shore of Lake Michigan we took the long and partially gravel road down to see this lighthouse. It was $8 to go into the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's house. It appears that in the past this had been free or you just had to pay to climb up into the lighthouse. It seemed a little steep for what we got, but nonetheless we did it. The best part was climbing up the lighthouse where you were able to go into the top section where the light was located. It was a very nice view of the lake from there. Overall an OK experience. Not sure it was worth the long drive or $8. read more

We went at the very end of the season, but it was still beautiful here in late September. The attached museum is a little run-down. WE noticed the lumberjack display had several pieces knocked over, for instance. However, the lighthouse itself is worth seeing, and the guides are friendly and talkative. There's a breath-taking view from the top of the light. If you have time, consider bringing a picnic, because the grounds are just gorgeous as well, full of old cedar trees and a clam-shell and rock beach. I'm kicking myself that I didn't bring a camera. I grew up less than two hours away from this landmark but never knew it was there; I guess that's pretty common with lighthouses as they're generally in remote places, but I was still thrilled to find it after all the years I've been exploring the Upper Peninsula. read more

Unfortunately it was closed when I went but I knew that prior to my arrival. While I would have liked to go inside as well as visit the gift shop, I'm still very glad I went. The outside of the lighthouse is beautiful! Great pictures even for a rainy, dreary day. The road was unpaved but seemed to be in very very good condition. Car got a little dirty but oh well. I'd like to go again during open season. read more
