The space is intimate and cozy; which is crucial when considering taking off your clothes for certain placements of ink. (I had a less then fantastic experience at TCB - I love the guys to death, but it ain't a private place to do business. I have a fair number of tattoos from various sources... this shop was by far the best quality work, and the best overall experience. Matt Ellis IS the man. (not to take anything away from the other folks, I just had my work done by Matt). I wear his work proudly, and a lot of people know the name. He did a full sleeve for me... working his way around some existing work and covering up some other stuff. I get compliments all the time. Yup. This place is dreamy. Morgan Macdonald was such a treat to work with, and I'm pretty sure that down the line, I'd love to return and get more work done with this dude, because holy hell, this guy is top notch (just in case you couldn't tell by ALL THE AWARDS ON HIS WALL). I was going to get my first EVER tattoo, and Seven Crowns was the place I chose. it's basically a custom work shop. So much so, that they don't even take any kind of card and only deal in cash (the shop can't really justify having a card charging system because the volume of walk-ins are so low.) I researched almost all the top shops in the city, picking over the work samples of every artist, and then I stumbled on Morgan's page through the Seven Crowns website and I knew I found my guy, this dude does not mess around (he has a chainsaw under his work bench, don't worry, it's just a prop...OR IS IT?!?!?) But there was just something about his pieces I really loved; the amazing line work, the fantastic shading and there was just something weird and wonderful about a lot of his pieces that I saw. I corresponded with him initially over e-mail and eventually set up a consult with him. I brought in a ton of reference photo's, described the feel of the tattoo I was expecting (sensual, whimsical - okay, yea, I got a portrait of Bjork, she's pretty much my favourite person ever). And then came the bummer part, I went on his waiting list. I think I landed on there sometime in late 2013, either fall or winter. Which I took as a good sign meaning he was in demand, but waiting sucked :( BUT THEN HE CALLED IN THE GLORIOUS MONTH OF MAY OR POSSIBLY APRIL 2014 SAYING MY DRAWING WAS READY!!!!! So I moseyed on in and looked at the sketch and I was thrilled, he totally nailed what I was hoping for, I requested to see a colour sketch on the day of the inking, but that never transpired because let's be really, AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT (Did I mention Morgan is a busy guy...?) So I put total faith in the process, laid my ass down, and enjoyed 2 and a half hours of blissful tattooing (and by blissful I mean, mother fucking ow). However, Morgan started off very gently and it was generally a pretty great first experience. 2 of the female artists popped in to catch a look of my tattoo, which was pretty cool, Seven Crowns seems like a really creative supportive environment for artists. Either that or no one has ever seen a Bjork tattoo... Morgan also has his studio towards the back of the shop, and it seems to be one of the only private ones, which was great for a first timer like me. I let the tat air out for just 20 minutes on a walk outside a day and a half later and I've already had pointers being all pointy and recognizing how frikkin sweet my ink is. After hearing lots of positive feedback about this place, I ended up pretty much picking an artist at random (honestly, all of their online portfolios were impressive) and booking a consult. I ended up picking Mike Beddome. He was by far the nicest tattoo artist I have ever had. He was extremely approachable, easy going, and embraced my nit pickings and small edits with ease (hey, if it's gonna be on your body forever, you shouldn't have any "what if?" questions left over...). He did two tattoos on me, with one requiring lots and lots of straight line work.... and I am so pleased with how it turned out. It is pretty damn close to looking 100% perfect. Best of all, I was in there about 1.5 hours and he only charged me for an hour's worth of tattooing (it is pretty great that they have an hourly rate rather than per piece if you are getting more than one tattoo). So nice of him! I would recommend Mike in a heartbeat, and if I ever get the itch for another tattoo, I will definitely be going to Seven Crowns again. read more

I've been thinking of getting a tatt or two (or three) for quite a while now and never had/found a good opportunity to get some done and try a new experience being a tattoo newbie and all. With some designs in mind and some research into the pricing and overall cleanliness I decided to go with Seven Crowns Tattoo because, while pricey, was reasonable compared to other places with some charging $400 + tax for a 2 hour job; here they charge by the hour ($150/hour + tax) and it ended up being more a more reasonable price. The staff were very friendly and helpful with my questions during the consultation and aftercare phases. The artist I had selected, Robyn, was super friendly and did an awesome job on my very first tatts (tatts because I had two done) and chatting to her while the tatts were being done made the process less tedious and the 2 hour session just flew by. Before the session I was half expecting the pain levels to be excruciating but when I got under the ink gun/needle it was still painful but not as bad as I had expected and that's good cos at least I didn't chicken out :D...makes me want to have more done (provided I think of something I like/want done). read more

I don't know where to start or how to properly articulate how exceptional my experience yesterday was at Seven Crowns...but I'll try. Let's start with the customer service. Calling to book a consult two months ago I was greeted with a level of professionalism or organization that is rare in this world but totally unexpected from a 'tattoo parlor'. Robyn was a complete professional and took the time to really get to know me and her proposed art work was flawless. After a few weeks of nervous anticipation my day had come (yesterday) and I came in for 4+hours of ink. Long story short, the process was almost as amazing at the finished product. Aside from being a world class artist Robyn is also a wonderful human. I have never enjoyed being in pain for 4+ hours so much. I came in as a random customer and when I left I felt like family. I cannot recommend Seven Crowns or Robyn Jade enough. Absolutely amazing and I cant wait to go back. read more

I just finished up my flower piece by Mike and I can't say enough good things about it! The whole process was easy and Mike is super nice and easy to talk to through the tattoo appointment. He made me feel comfortable and the design and finished product turned out better than I could've ever hoped. SUPER cool studio with great vibes. Very relaxed and also has an art gallery, which is a really neat use of the space. Mike did a wee little bumblebee tattoo for me and I couldn't believe the detail he put into it and how enthusiastic he was about even just a quick tattoo like that. I really really recommend this place. I was looking to get a cover-up for a tattoo that was actually a cover-up of ANOTHER tattoo. Before I went to seven crowns, my tattoo was a total mess and I thought there was no way they'd be able to turn it into something great. I was hoping for not-hideous at best. Anyway, my tattoo artist, Emma, turned the piece into something really beautiful. It doesn't look like a cover-up at all. She did a really great American traditional style piece and used colour so beautifully but not gratuitously. Beyond that, she's delightful as hell. Beyond recommend Seven Crowns and Emma. I highly recommend Seven Crowns if you are looking for a high-quality custom piece. Found out about this spot online while researching various places in Toronto to get my sleeve done at. Ended up settling on Seven Crowns after liking the attittude and vibe they were putting out but mainly from seeing the work that comes out of the shop. I went with George as my artist who I have only good things to say about. He only embarks on projects that he is passionate for (so make sure you have a decent idea and "pitch" before heading in). George is an amazing artist, conversationalist and overall human being. He is very cool and easy to talk to and most importantly his work is top notch. This is not a shop for walk-ins but rather highly customized pieces that are uniquely your own. Seven Crowns is a bit more expensive that some of the other (qualit) tattoo shops that charge around 100 dollars an hour versus Seven Crowns which is 150. Overall, I personally don't mind this price increase, I have the money and paying more for high-quality work that will be on my body forever doesn't seem like that bad of an idea. Also, a heads up, they only deal in cash. read more

These guys run a top notch shop and you can tell that they put a lot of time and effort into getting things just right. Good privacy (which as a previous reviewer pointed out is important and not as common as you would think). Fantastic ambiance and their work is stellar. Simply the best. Beware of George Brown. His payment tactics are unfair. Do not leave any money down for deposits. Only pay after each visit. I wasnt happy witth his work and he wouldnt return my deposit. His main concern is the money not the art.. Trust me, I dropped over $1000 on his work and it is going to cost me double that to have it cleaned up. There are so many other reputable artists in our city now that will provide much better service and back up there work. read more
