Still, as a pub, it did have some charm about it, though in a way, it still felt a little tacky, particularly for my tastes. Honestly, in the end, it is a reasonable one to go and have a beer at though, even though the service was somewhat passable.

I went for a serve of spring rolls with veggies and hubby had his stock standard schnitzel with veggies. They came in your normal styrofoam takeaway boxes. Spring rolls were yummy if a little soggy and the sour cream to go with them was an odd selection. The reason they have lost a star is - riddle me this? If you are preparing a vegetarian meal - why oh why would you put bacon in the potatoes? I ate half of the potatoes before I noticed too so I may be stuck on the toilet tomorrow! Luckily I don't think I actually ate any bacon. I'm a little annoyed but the sheer quantity of the rest of the food more than made up for it.

However, the service was pretty good, even though there was a lack of beer selection, but then again that is sort of to be expected when dealing with a pub out in the country. However, they had a pretty large beer garden out the back, which was really cool, and the interior had quite a lot of charm about it as well. Yeah, it was also rather quiet, but then again I suspect that might have been because I was up here outside of the tourist season. The other thing about this place that I thought was really cool was the pet blue tongue lizard, but then again they tend to be frequent visitors this far out.

Okay, being a country pub I wouldn't expect a huge selection of beers on tap, and they certainly don't have that, however I found that the service was quite good, and that atmosphere quite relaxing as well. There was even a rather nice beer garden down the side, which also added to the atmosphere of the place. Sure, it wasn't too crowded, but that sort of did have something to do with it being mid-afternoon. Still, it was a nice pub nonetheless.

They menu changes every now and again but they always make sure to have at least one vegetarian meal on there. Husband informs me that the schnitzels are almost always moist and yummy this time no difference. We love the beer battered fries which are moreish and delectable! I have the sweet potato fries and a haloumi stack. Some days they have salad and veg bar and some days you pick salad or veg with your meal. Dessert was a Belgian chocolate cup which for $5 was amazing! They do takeaway as well which we take advantage of too. We will continue coming back her for many more years to come.

Look, I wouldn't expect anything all that fancy from this place, but as a country pub it is pretty good. The staff were quite friendly, and yeah, the the beef schnitzel, yeah that was awesome.

Well, I should…read moremention that when it comes to Owen, it is basically a really small town just outside of Adelaide, so you can basically expect the pub not to have a particularly huge range of beers available. Still, as a pub it was pretty good, and the service wasn't bad at all. In fact I found that he was really helpful. Like, yeah, it really isn't one of those pubs that I'd visit again in a hurry, but it was still pretty nice.

With a lot of country pubs you know what you get, and this one is no different. They tend to be jovial and sometimes rather welcoming, though their beer selection isn't always that great. Yeah, this place wasn't too bad to be honest, and the bar tender was friendly and helpful. It also had a beer garden, but it is typical of what you would find in the country.

The pub itself was okay, and it was sort of what I would expect from a country pub. The service was good, and it was clear that a number of regulars happened to be there as well. Mind you, after having visiting numerous such pubs, I have come to the conclusion that being a rather chatty bartender is a compulsory requirement for running such a pub.

Right, so we were in the Clare Valley on a weeknight and desperately tried to find a restaurant…read more Our guide said that Mintaro is one of the most famous towns, not only for its historic buildings but also in terms of accommodation and restaurants. Well, whoever wrote that guide should consider rewriting it - at least in what concerns restaurants. The Magpie and Stump Hotel was the only place that was open in the whole town, it was probably also the only place where we saw lights or any sign of life. Walking in, you feel like you've been transferred back into time. Seriously. We walked in and my first thought was 'Where the hell am I here?'. The place looks old and outdated, yet somehow charming because it's very different to what you'd expect. They serve traditional pub food and the only other people in there had the same food as we did: pie. You can't go wrong with pie. It was good and they have a large selection of beer and wines. Would I go back? Well, it was truly a unique experience but, unless I'd be stuck in Mintaro, I don't really see a reason to drive into the middle of nowhere just to enjoy something I could have pretty much anywhere else.
