Today I picked up the second top I've had made, copied on a previous one I had. The first one was well made but because the material was different, it looked wrong (the shoulders were too big so it looked like pyjamas instead of a concert top). When I told them that it looked bigger than the original they were quite rude. Surely as they are experienced tailors they should know that materials behave differently. They did fix it, and as I tried to be extremely conciliatory, they even smiled at me.
I therefore asked them to copy the same top in a material that is more similar to the original one. They had plenty of time to get it done. When I went in yesterday, they hadn't put buttons on, so they told me to come back today as the Russian seamstress wasn't there that day. When I pointed out today that there still were no buttons (only two are needed), the seamstress seemed really annoyed and told me she had no buttons and I had complained before about the buttons on the previous top. I reminded her that I only mentioned one had snapped straightaway. She insisted that she couldn't put buttons on, but as I told her I needed the top for a concert abroad the next day, she quickly put some on, muttering rudely all along.
When I tried the top on before putting it in my suitcase just now, it was obvious the buttons are in the wrong place -- the whole top bunches because of it. I tried to change the position, but I am not an experienced sewer, and at 11pm I had to give up on the top. I will have to take the other one they made, which is much too warm for this weather.
I am extremely unhappy about this service. They are by no means cheap, which would be fine if they provided me with a polite, efficient service. Frankly they were almost comically rude, and if my top was wearable, I might have found it funny. As it is, I am pretty furious. read more
