This is a nice change from Michael's as it's not cookie cutter type of store. 2 levels with the 2nd floor mainly dealing with paints, fine arts, frames etc supplies and the first floor with fancy paper type of supplies you will definitely get inspired. I found both floors to be kind of crowded but since it wasn't busy when I went it was ok. There is also a register on the 2nd floor so you don't have to go downstairs and wait in line. The staff are really friendly and will make suggestions if you need some help or inspiration. The prices are decent but I didn't see much sales. Some of the stock is what you could find at other box stores but there are a lot of unique items that are catered to the artiste.

There are bigger yarn shops, but in my experience the staff can be kind of snarky, and you know what? Choosing yarn is hard! My first experience at the knit cafe was many years ago at their Queen street location. I had never knit a stitch and I just wanted to make a super simple chunky scarf for my boyfriend. I'm crafty, so the technique wasn't going to be a problem (I've since become a knitting ninja), I needed help just getting matching yarn and needles. The knit cafe stepped in when I was about to give up after a rude experience at another store. They were well above and beyond helpful! Since then I've also taken some of their classes, I've become a "Sock Master" and I've "Designed my Own Sweater". FANTASTIC skill building, hence my title of knitting ninja. It's all thanks to this amazing space. I literally have new questions every week and they help me through my projects time after time. It's an amazing resource that I will miss dearly when I move from Toronto. ;)

What were we looking for: a soft, but a certain thickness fabric, solid green or blue. We walked down queen st west and this was one of the stores we walked into. It's a mess in here. It's impossible to look for anything. This is pretty common between all the other fabric stores around, but this one was unbearable. You can't even walk through the aisle, oh wait! there's hardly even an aisle. This place was one of the most uncomfortable places to search for fabric. There was two workers at the time when we entered, one was really quiet and really friendly, but kind of didn't know much when we asked her for help. She asked the other worker if she had any recommendation. The second lady knew quiet a few, but none was in our price range! We told her numerous of times of our price range and she was like, I KNOW THE EXACT ONE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR....and it was over our price range. But, as she was helping, she seemed not amused to serve us and sighed quiet a few times, giving us the feeling we were unwanted in there. My aunt politely told her, we might come back later and we just walked out. I don't recommend this place for anyone who is new to fabric or is unsure about what to use. They have tons and tons to choose from, so if you have a lot of time on your hands and in need of many options, give this place a try.
