I wonder if they work "for" or "against" international students sometimes. Basically, they don't give a sh*t about you and your study. The only thing they will care about is when the heck you will be done and LEAVE usa. The FRONT desk people here are work of some horse sh*t.....they are just terrible, down right rude. When I come here for advising hours, they wouldn't let me even sit on the chair. (Chairs probably OIP bought for students or for decoration I guess!) I was there 10 mins early for advising hour, even though they were open, they kicked me out saying that I have to be there on the dot at 10am. But seriously, you are OPEN, the office is open for students from 8AM,why can't i sit and wait 10 mins? It is ridiculous.... WHY? So you can check your Facebook status without interruption? They treat you like you are ignorant, don't speak English and will behave at your worst. Every time I go there, I have to prepare myself for the worst. They will tell you they will call security on students for smallest reasons. This happened to me once when I made "an attempt" to call an OIP officer from the inside of the waiting room. I had to call her because I had a document that needed urgently (if you are international students, you'd probably understand this...) Btw, when I tried to call her, the lady inside the office was yelling at me saying "You are not allowed to call here. We'll call security!!" Seriously, what is wrong with you??? It was my mistake not to notice the sign, but seriously? Do I have to get yelled at and threatened to be called for security?? Were you gonna taser me if I went ahead and made that call??? Damn.... Such a ridiculous place run by lazy workers with extremely unwelcoming attitudes. Please write here if you have similar experience. I just hope they change the air and treat international students with some respect, some helpful attitudes, and politeness. We may not be American citizens, but we are HUMANS and citizens from other great nations in the world. No wonder why America is going down. People are so lazy and don't even bother to think for themselves. That is just sad really. Just remember, you people work in OIP. Your ancestors, ALL of you, were immigrants. There, someone down the road was helpful and merciful to your father's father or mother's mother is the only reason you are now American. Why can't you show the same helpfulness, kindness that your own bloodline received long ago so now you have a place to stay and get a job? YOU think about THAT.

I am writing this review as a participant, not as an event organizer. My experience is based on the…read moreevents I attended, which consisted of 2 graduations - a previous class (as I was a scholarship recipient) and my own graduation a semester later. To get to the conference center is a bit tricky especially as it's really far from the main campus. Your best bet is to look at the campus maps for directions and wear some comfortable walking shoes. Every semester my program holds graduation at this venue. With max seating of 300 people, it was able to host the graduating class, their guests (up to 3), education coordinators as well as faculty and staff. Everyone is seated in round tables that could sit around 10 people each and even with the tables there was enough room to move about. Food was decent both times I went - comparable to hotel banquet food. I remember that the previous graduating class had fajitas as this was requested by the class. Beef and chicken fajitas were served along with standard fajita sides such as avocado, guacamole and sour cream. In true NorCal fashion it was served with rice and beans. Chocolate cake was slightly moist. For my graduation we had more standard hotel banquet food, which consisted of overcooked vegetables, very overcooked tortellini and flavorful yet slightly soggy chicken breast marsala. At least I got full off the salad bar and the No1DP treated our group to better food afterwards. Only refreshments served are water and tea. As far as academics is concerned, it is an EXCELLENT school. You learn, all right. There is plenty of homework. Teachers don't just drill the information; they make sure that the students learn. The down side of this is that it is not easy getting As, so when college application time comes around, the Bs and Cs won't cut it for elite schools. Of course, on the other hand, if your student got the As, then the doors are wide open for Ivy League and every top university available. Many Lowell alumni have gone that way. Reflecting on this, regardless of where your child goes to college, this quality of education can't be bought. After going through Lowell, your student will be ready for any college, period - Ivy League or CCSF. As far as extracurriculars, there is plenty, from sports, to arts, to robotics...EVERYTHING. My son is doing archery this semester. Cool, huh? As far as parent involvement, this is top notch. The reason Lowell continues to do well despite massive budget cuts is the PTSA. God bless them! There are resources of all kinds, from college help, to mental and physical health (A nurse is available much of the time, people...where else can you have one in SFUSD?) Some people complain that the school is overrated and the environment is competitive. To them, I say that if your kid is an underachiever, then don't force the issue. To succeed in Lowell, your student must want to be a winner. The teachers are super nice and super helpful. I can go as far as confirming it because I was a former student of one of the teachers there. They are the best. Final word: It is the best free education available in San Francisco if you really want it.

I have no idea what the problem was when I was just calling about my daughter since I was worried she was not responding to any of my messages, which she normally does. so many kids going missing these days it's hard not to worry, especially if your kid is not informing you when they get to school which they normally do. This is not the first time this woman has had this behavior with me. I've let it go a few times, but it definitely should be corrected. it's not necessary.

The parking machine requires a minimum of $4, which buys you 2 hours. **There is no way to cancel and get your money back.** If you, for example, start putting in singles and then decide, "Nah - I don't want to pay that much - I'll go somewhere else," you might think you could "cancel" and get your money back, since that is how pretty much any other payment machine anywhere works. Nope, your singles are gone. Forever. The machine says "no change given", but I didn't notice anything saying, "no refunds". Instead of your actual money back, the machine will spit out a "refund slip", but that's a joke - you can't turn it into actual cash, only a credit against future parking. And, to get even that paltry credit, you have to go in person during business hours to visit the SFSU Parking and Transportation Office. Who's going to do that for $2?! Not me or anyone else with a job. Upshot: Came once, thought the track was super-nice, but the parking experience was so chintzy that I now am actively annoyed at SFSU, an institution about which I used to be completely neutral. Nice work, SFSU Parking and Transportation Office. Hope the $2 is worth it.

I am forever grateful I was blessed with the opportunity to return and finish my college education at SFSU at 44 years old. It was hilarious attending college at 44 years old because I know I was surely THE oldest student attending classes in the cinema department! Hah! But, it was well worth the effort attending classes taught by Professor Jameson Goldner, Professor Larry Clark, Professor Jane Veeder, and a plethora of profoundly enlightening, multi-tasking SFSU Professors. Still, I pinch myself in amazement how I was able to attend classes at the most wonderful cinema department and have full access using the coolest cinema facilities. Fantastic computers, great editing bays, cool cameras, fabulous movie viewing screens, etc were extremely accessible at a moment's notice. Furthermore, I know I was trained very well in my field of cinematography, so I give my highest recommendations to any student planning to attend the cinema studies program. When the film, "Wag The Dog" was ready for release & distribution, the SFSU Cinema students were invited to view the movie for free at George Lucas' office on Francisco Blvd. in San Rafael. My classmate, Sean Afshar was hired as a film editor for George Lucas, Michael Eisner, and other Hollywood producers/directors. Now, Sean Afshar is working in Hollywood ever since he graduated from SFSU Cinema Department. You can see Sean's body of work via www.imdb.com . . . just do a search for Sean Afshar, editor. So, due to the success of hiring SFSU Cinema students and proving their high productivity level, a film hiring pool was set in place located at the Cinema Office. I began working behind the broadcast camera for several SF Bay Area broadcast networks through this film hiring pool via previous Cinema Dean Ferraro. Upon graduating from SFSU, years later, I introduced Bob Nuchow, founder of Screen Actors Guild "SAG Conversations" and IATSE Local 600 film training seminars to the new Dean Steve U. of the Cinema Studies Department. To date, I have donated all my ICG Magazines subscriptions to the Cinema Studies Library.
