I visited SGH and Sons to have my alloys refurbished after visiting their web site. I was attracted by the claims of returning your alloys looking like new, and also I needed a courtesy car for the duration of the work.
What was not made clear was that the courtesy cars are not insured by SGH and Sons, so on dropping my car off I was told I had to add the courtesy car to my insurance. This was a pain because I didn't have my insurance details to hand. This encourages people to drive without insurance, to get to somewhere where they can contact their own insurers, which is really poor.
When I picked my vehicle up and got it home and washed it, it became clear that only the front facing side of the alloys had been cleaned off and repainted, which seemed to have been done nicely, however the rims were still bubbly with some corrosion and big scrape marks on them where the old balancing weights were removed.
I contacted the garage twice using their web forms to register my dissatisfaction with the service provided and heard nothing back. I phoned up to ask them about it and see if I could get any money refunded as they had only done (less than) half the job. I was told it was tough basically, and the work carried out had been the work quoted for. This was not the case as no mention was made of only repainting the outer facing alloy. I had worked on the assumption that their claim of returning alloys looking like new was in fact true and included the whole alloy and not just bits of it.
I would advise anyone considering getting work done here to make sure they confirm exactly what is going to be done for their money. Also if you require a courtesy car be aware that these are not insured by SGH and Sons.
I was very disappointed with the work carried out at £96 per wheel. read more
