Me and my family are from out of town on vacation, and my mother in law is big on going to the temple and giving offering to the monk and receiving prayer and all, so we decided to take the whole family to a Cambodian Buddhist temple. All the monk were very nice and inviting they made me and my family feel very comfortable. I am very appreciative of their kindness, and I am willing to visit this temple and the monks any time I am in the southern CA. I wish that all our Cambodian temples would be this inviting and interested in their devotees, no matter where they are from as this temple was. Overall this was a great place to visit.

The sanctuary was an attractive and peaceful to remember my loved one. They were there to help with all the technical things like the photo slide show and microphones. We had a very nice repast in the social space next to the gym which had a commercial sized kitchen for the caterers to use. The premises were clean and well-stocked and I was able to hire Norma their custodial person to help with the clean up afterwards. The service is in Japanese, but this doesn't matter because it is a chanting meditation using a book which is easily followed. After the chant there is a short lesson in English. Then there is a 30 minute break before dharma talks separately in English and Japanese. During the break member socialize and talk to all. I can only speak for the English dharma talks, which are very good. Yuichi is very well organized, and is adept at answering questions, even if they don't necessarily relate to the topic. It's obvious his knowledge is broad and his understanding is deep. If you can't make it to Gardena, he and Bita (the manager) conduct meetups throughout the region.

Hey, I'm still a normal guy who likes to have fun, God would want me to, right? I've been going here since april and I really love it here. I feel at home and everyone is very nice and friendly, even funny. I tried a few different churches in long beach but this one is more my speed. Relaxed and friendly. People wear shorts, sandals, and t-shirts. Some don't wear anything at all! Just kidding. I'm not going to go into my own personal reasons for why I go to church and I'm not going to tell you any stereotypical Christian ploys in order to get you to go here. My personal motto is that everyone has their own relationship with God, or whatever they believe in which keeps them connected to this world. At this Church (Open Door Ministries) I have met a group of people who just happen to have the same beliefs as me, Christian. The music is contemporary, the service is always new and entertaining believe it or not, and the group of people that go here are the most down to earth good hearted people that you will ever find. This is an open and affirming church that accepts ALL walks of life. If you are interested and you feel like you want to check us out, come on down. The pastor is a true disciple of Jesus Christ, and has a real relationship with him. When he preaches I can feel his excitement about what God has been doing in his life, and his desire to share the things that have been revealed to him by the spirit. It always seems if I'm confused or questioning something it somehow gets addressed during the sermon as well, which is a huge faith booster. As for community; it seems that almost everyone knows who I am, and they make an effort to care and it super shows. Sometimes I have hard days, and my friends at LBAC stay by my side through it, which is a real blessing. For context, today is January 10, 2026, and the Thai-Cambodian border conflict is currently ongoing. Like churches, temples are places of worship, but unlike American churches or religious institutions, the temple is also a safe space to gather for fellowship, community events, and other social gatherings. Here's a few pointers for new visitors: - Come as you are. No need to wear special garb, but be mindful of your attire. - Talk to people. Say hello. - Take shoes off when entering the structures or when on the mat/rug in front of the outdoor shrine. - The bowing ritual--bow three times in front of the monk or Buddha statue. - Did not bring an offering? Its all good. Monetary donations are accepted. Everyone is invited to eat after the monks are served and the food is blessed.
