Came by to scope out the location in preparation for tomorrow's weekly Wednesday meditation group…read more Not sure how many people will show, but at least I know it's close enough so I can arrive early. The building is big, so I'm sure there will be plenty of space to socially distance- (but I still want to get here early)! The last time I tried group meditation was in 2012; so I'm curious if I'll be able to clear my mind and find balance while in the group. Only one way to find out. I'll be back tmrw and update my review once I actually experience it. But so far, the center seems lovely. Update: Went back on Wednesday but they are not doing any in-person meditations with the current COVID pandemic, which is completely understandable. I did read on their website that they conduct Zoom meditations and talks. You can find the monthly schedule online. I'll check some of those out. Take care and stay safe everyone!

The zendo (meditation hall) is the other structure in the backyard. Very kind and welcoming people. An introductory lesson is typically required before sitting. It was very informative as there are a quite a few traditions to follow. Three 25 minute sittings, one walking meditation, chanting, followed by tea. It's not a requirement to stay for all of the sittings. I felt very welcomed and am very much so enjoying this new practice.

The community is very welcoming, and the space is beautiful inside. The building doesn't look like much from the outside, and it is a bit hard to spot from the street, so look for the sign out front (note that the entrance is in the rear next to the parking lot). I highly recommend Shambhala for anyone looking for a good place to practice mindfulness and learn to be more present and sane in the world.
