This is the worst medical facility I've ever been in my entire life. I never thought there would ever be a facility this bad that's probably slightly better than a third world country. I came in at 12:00PM for a possible TIA (Stroke). I'm writing this at 7:00 PM and I still have not been seen by a doctor. Although blood and urine tests were conducted, I've witnessed patients come in and go for 7 hours. I guess they were more important than potential stroke victims. I really feel that some of the CNA'S/PCTon 5 West can be treated a lot better than the way some are being treated. Nurse S... I have an issue with when I had concerns of treatment when it came to my mother and the team. She showed very little concern when we spoke, never came back to make sure the situation had changed. I spent 17 days in that room with my mom bc the care was horrible. Now I have someone close to me that works there and the way she is been treated hurts me to the pits of my soul. Unfair, uncaring and insensitive to the needs of some of the staff is beyond distasteful. A lot a favoritism is being shown. Dealing with som much bc you don't feel no one is hearing you or seeing what's going on is sad and something needs to be done about Nurse S on 5 West. I truly hope Nurse S on 5 West sees this review and change her mindset and do better by her staff. read more

I am, sad and distraught by the lack of care/ quality of staff and equipment this facility has to offer. Equipment (ie. MRI machines )not working when needed for emergencies is inexcusable. Upon hearing a dear friend suffer with a stroke and never received the care/meds in the 4 hr window to help alleviate any further symptoms is unacceptable. It's a wonder this facility is still operational and standing with all its many issues in the number over the years. The patients your facility cares for are loved ones, whether it be family or fiends; they are not a bed filler to meet your quota. SGMC Health located in Valdosta Ga , I am sharing my recent experience with SGMC Health to inform my followers and friends. After being transported to the hospital by ambulance due to an epilepsy seizure, I received immediate attention from the ambulance staff. Upon arrival, I was quickly moved into an open room, where the medical team initiated an IV and assessed my pain levels. My nurse recognized the urgency of my situation, as I was experiencing pain-induced seizures, and offered to expedite the process by requesting the doctor's assistance. Following a brief wait, Dr. Adam Jones, the on-call physician, arrived and began the examination process. However, I requested a brief delay to allow my husband, who was approaching the room, to be present. Dr. Jones responded by asking if I was refusing the examination, to which I clarified that I was merely requesting a brief delay. He then instructed the nurse to summon him only when necessary and exited the room. The nurse apologized for Dr. Jones' behavior, and I expressed my concern about his unprofessional demeanor, ultimately requesting a different physician. My husband arrived in my room while I was stressed and upset by his conversation with me and the nurse. After I told him to leave, he returned and said, 'Okay, good luck waiting for another doctor; you're going to be waiting a while.' Thirty minutes passed with no medication or medical assistance, and I started having a seizure. My husband called for help, and the staff rushed to my bedside. My husband had to keep suction on me to prevent choking. He asked the staff to get a doctor to help me before I went into cardiac arrest. They said they needed the doctor's orders to administer medication. A nurse expressed concern, saying she couldn't watch this happen. The security guard told my husband to do what he had to do. My husband left the room and asked Doctor Adam Jones to help me, but he refused. My husband returned to the room, upset, and said something had to be done. The nurse got the charge nurse, who tried to talk to Doctor Jones, but he just laughed. After five minutes, another doctor arrived and immediately began treatment, which successfully stopped the seizures. Meanwhile, my husband expressed his concerns to the doctor, detailing the events that had occurred. He was very concerned and had contacted the appropriate individuals to reach out to us. Additionally, he spoke with the charge nurse, who had also filed a complaint. Upon arriving home later that night, I received my chart summary and was surprised to find that Doctor Adam Jones had filed a police report against my husband, claiming that he had threatened to kill him. However, this statement was never made during our visit. Although a brief argument ensued, such a threat was never uttered. We are now back home, still dealing with the consequences of a highly unsatisfactory experience at SGMC Health, which marks the second such incident in multiple visits over the past few years with SGMC Health On January 16, 2025, I visited the South Ga Medical Center with Cole S Seaton, where I was transferred by ambulance after experiencing a seizure while driving. Prior to the seizure, I pulled over at the Bussy Bee Station on Bemiss, as I was feeling nauseous and lightheaded, with blurry vision and numbness in my right hand and arm. My daughter immediately called 911, and I lost consciousness during the seizure, resulting in urination. Upon arrival at the hospital, I was administered medication to stop the seizure. Upon waking up in the ER, I experienced a headache, nausea, and shaking legs. The nurse informed the doctor, who inquired about my shaking and alcohol consumption. I replied that I do not consume alcohol due to my hyperglycemia diagnosis. The doctor then stated that my episode was not a seizure, which contradicted my medical history and records. My husband brought this to the doctor's attention, referencing my neurologist, Dr. Eisa, and my history of epilepsy seizures and non-tornal seizures. The doctor then leaves the room, and I become very confused and upset that he was supposed to be my doctor and help me, but instead he tells my husband that this is not a seizure at all. I then become very upset and start to have a seizure. The doctor comes back into the room, and he and my husband have words because he is not wanting to help or listen to what my husband, who has been a paramedic for almost 28 years and has witnessed multiple episodes of seizures, has to say. All he is receiving from Doctor Cole is very argumentative behavior. He then comes in, and I am given 2 mg of IV Versed. He then turns to my husband and says, "Why do y'all come here?" My husband replies, "I wouldn't bring my sick dog to y'all." We didn't choose to come here; she was brought in by ambulance. More to our story read more

I went in on a Saturday around noon with horrible stomach pains. I was bent over, curled in a ball pain. I checked in and told them how much pain I was in. The immediately took me in triage while one nurse took my vitals 4 others stood around talking about what they wanted for lunch. They had me go back to the waiting room. Two hours later I explain I'm still in bad pain and asked what was taking so long. They came back and the nurse gave me maylox and had me go back to the waiting room. Two more hours curled up in a chair they come get me and put in an IV in my arm. Blood began squirting everywhere and all over the floor. I've had numerous IV's before and I can tell you this was a disaster. They sent me back to a waiting room with the IV and blood all over my arm. Understand I have a bloody arm and I'm sitting in a chair that numerous other people sit in every day. Apparently they don't care about blood borne pathogens. I waited another hour with bad pain and an IV in my arm in the waiting room. I finally got up and told them I was leaving and to take the IV out. They argued with me and kept saying just have a seat. It wasn't until I told them I'm leaving with this IV right now that they removed it. Five hours later, while in pain dealing with rude, uncaring nurses and never seeing a doctor I left. I kept asking how much longer and they couldn't tell me. They said it depends how many other people come in. This was absolutely the worst, most unprofessional hospital I've ever been in. At least the ER area. I can't speak for other departments because I never got seen. read more

Our son is a diabetic and was in DKA. They got him taken care of in a timely manner as I drove five hours to get to him.

This hospital is simply bad. Its best hope is for a fleet of bulldozers. The ER looks like a 3rd world country. I can drive 2 hours to the Mayo Clinic (Outstanding!), be treated, released and drive 2 hours back to Valdosta faster than waiting 4 hours in the SGMC ER before even being triaged. Unfortunately, for most people in the area, the place is currently a necessary evil due to the shortage of all things medical. Poor health care is better than none. read more

South Georgia Medical Center is a joke. We went to Urgent Care on N. Ashley and after seeing the severity of the issue, they told us to come to main SGMC to be seen as they have all this lab work and specialists that could diagnose and treat. They also told us to stress the severity and urgency of treatment. When we arrived at main SGMC, They took our vitals and asked our signs and symptoms and if we've had issues before. After telling them yes and about being treated multiple times for the issue, We were rushed through Triage and discharged immediately like we were crazy and a nuisance to them. When we told them what Urgent Care told us to tell them, the RN replied with "they always say everything is Urgent." We weren't even given or offered a second look. Aside from the TERRIBLE patient care, the RNs that saw us in triage were confused on who was going to do what. They were asking us questions while we had oral thermometers in our mouths among other disorganizations. This isn't the first time we've had terrible patient care at this hospital. The "new system" is no improvement. And our complaints to the staff go nowhere. read more

From the cleanliness, the food, the staff was knowledgeable and genuinely pleasant. I would sincerely recommend anyone to use this medical facility at any time. Walked into the ER actively having a heart attack, and was told to sit down in the lobby. Over a hour passed before they even took my blood pressure. Back to the lobby for another hour before they gave me an EKG Back to the lobby for another hour before I got to the treatment area of the ER. Almost another hour before I received any medical treatment. Actively having a heart attack and it took 4 hours before they bothered to take blood, or start an IV to give me any medicine. 3 hours later, I was taken to the Cardiac ICU. 3 minutes ago 3 West Charge nurse Kelli, is the nurse from h***! Humiliated me and degraded me, in front of everyone, Very very unprofessional. Threatened me, told me I had to look at her when she talked. Promised my mother's medication would be given without having to ask for it. I checked behind Kelli, the medication was never given until the next day. This bitter attitude is why I go to Tift General. I had no choice on SGMC because she went to the hospital by ambulance. Thanks to Jessica the nursing supervisor for helping me calm down. I heard I had lost a family member around 30 minutes before the tyrant Kelli started on me. Betty should stop humming the whole entire time she is in your room, after weeks in the hospital it is annoying, and smacking on gum. April from food service was very hateful as well. I can hardly believe the reviews of some of the patients. I had a surreal wonderful experience and it was primarily because of the nurses, Doctors and staff. If they could have been more attentive and conscientious I don't know what they could have done. I had 6 by passes and I was pampered like never in my life for the next 6 days. I was not always easy to get along with but they performed their duties perfectly. I was absolutely in love with the ladies that looked after me and the guys were terrific. All were dedicated hard working, patient and competent and I don't know how anybody could expect more. read more

I've been to the ER twice in the last month, which is highly unusual for me! The first time was on a Saturday evening, and although there was a wait, I expected that, since I saw the helicopter and ambulances present and knew there were emergencies as well. The staff were helpful and polite, and the physician was very personable. I did have to have labs drawn twice, but he explained that he had done some additional research. He even called me personally 2 hours after I got home to give me the results of my labs. The second time was due to an episode of shortness of breath and some chest pressure and high blood pressure. The PA found me while I was getting my blood drawn to ask me questions, and the nurse couldn't have been nicer. Even though it wasn't true chest pain, they took all of my complaints seriously. The ER doctor explained what they would be doing and they all apologized for any long waits. I did have to spend the night so they could check my heart out thoroughly, but felt much better leaving knowing that the tests had come back negative. It wasn't the best way to spend my Memorial Day weekend, but I definitely received much better care and treatment than what other people have been writing. I felt it was important to give my honest positive review, as there ARE good people out there! read more

It is now a over a year later so this is an update on SGMC. While I gave it a 5 star rating then, I will have to give it a 2 star ratIng now that all the dust has settled. SGMC was my first in-depth experience for heart/stroke related issues as a wife. I learned a lot of lessons! I am now familiar with the care and urgency of such a matter so I see how important it is to have a patient advocate with patient at ALL TIMES besides the spouse. We tried to have someone there all the time but a patient needs a person who is knowledgeable and will take the time and demand answers which was very difficult to get in our situation. They, also, need to be present, throughout the day. My husband was alone traveling to Florida from Kentucky when he had the stroke. Being a stroke victim, who can hardly understand anything after a stroke, let alone being by himself makes for bigger problems. No advocate at hospital at the time and no direction available for him being a stroke victim left him very vulnerable, as you can imagine. He did manage to tell them he was a vet (they are not affiliated with VA) and had his VA healthcard with him as well as a supplementary insurance card. I was aware of his stroke and called the hospital but was not allowed to speak to him so asked to speak to nurse who gave me update. I then was connected to finance department and told them he was a vet. I drove down there the next day and things were so stressful for me, as well. Trying to take in all the information even with a case worker was too much. People were coming at me from different directions talking about PT, OT,etc and how important it was to get my husband into both ASAP!! They were on top of it and I so appreciated it at the time. They were pushing hard to get him the proper services but we were not residents of Georgia and lived hundreds of miles away . I'm not young a young person and have health issues of my own so this was almost too much. All I knew is he wanted to go to a VA rehab facility. I tried to honor his request. The hospital head of therapy tried to to get him into VA hospital but SGAMC said there were no beds only to find out months later they weren't calling correct facility from what VA told us. i Needless to say, there needs to be someone assigned to a patient that will listen to him/or her when there are no relatives available on site. Caseworkers just don't have the time nor the knowledge of how VA works, evidently, too. Long story short -knowledgable patient advocate to direct or help patient and family( wife) know what the next steps are in helping the loved one get immediately what he or she deserves right then and there. Someone who a spouse can contact to ask questions. Someone who will talk to the wife or family and explain. An advocate who follows the patient the whole time they are in the hospital. One person that checks on his condition daily, is explains finances, checks to to see correct insurance is used and really has the patient's welfare in mind. No one did that for my husband except his family that flew in to various surrounding airports, from Boston, KY, Dallas to drive hours the Valdosta. While it seems things weren't going quickly to get him in rehab at hospital his family was working hard on their end to get to VA ( then they could transfer him where he was closer to family) or anywhere finally just to get him closer to home and therapy. Don't know who dropped the ball but my husband ended up at this hospital without proper therapy for 19 days feeling captive. Someone dropped the ball. My husband said it was humiliating and degrading experience once he got out of icu and put in another room. He couldn't get help to the bathroom or even take a bath because of shortage of medical techs. The only way he'd get cleaned up was only after accidents. My son and niece asked several times while they were there for my husband to receive a bath or have his bed changed. Neither saw it done while they were there. My husband was bathed 3x's in almost 3 weeks (last one being the day he was privately transported long distance to another facility), no bedding changes but 2x's (and they were from accidents after he left icu) in 14 days. He did say, however, the therapists were very good to him when he got therapy which, as I said before, became minimal the longer he was there. And, one more thing. Too many hospitalists. Too many doctors and all have different ideas!! It's confusing to a patient, especially a stroke victim. Drs should know better!! Part of a stroke is the confusion of the mind! In the end no one should feel captive in a hospital and not receive the proper care. Someone dropped the ball and my husband was forgotten. He's paid the price. read more

When I walked in the ER everyone was super nice and I was takin right back by a guy at the front desk named Andrew. I can't say enough about him! The care received was very good. I'm a relative of a patient that was in the Dasher Heart center. The nurses were very kind and approachable. The doctor had performed a good surgery, as the patient is in fact feeling much better (w/o a hitch). There might be, only one hiccup; I personally noticed; which is partly my fault, actually. If anyone leaves an item in the patient's room, after discharge; it will more than likely be stolen, and they seem to act a bit evasive and dismissive about checking to see if it's been turned in to a lost and found place. I know most people consider this to be expected, however; I'm just reminding people do not leave significant items there, like a watch, an ipad, a ring...etc. People are often thinking about their loved one's in a hospital so it's easy to do. Now that there is a new owner I think things have gotten better. The ER still has a long wait, but not as bad as the past few years where you could get stuck with a 6-8 hour ER visit. Most of the hospital has been updated/renovated and is very nice and presentable looking. The rooms in postpartum were pretty nice and were clean which is always a plus. The nurses up there were also very nice, helpful, and hospitable. read more

They are going through EPIC implementation so it has been a revolving door for consultants, be forewarned of the small mindedness and tons of gossiping at the PFS, get ready to be disrespected on a daily basis. If I could give 0 stars I would!! This hospital has the WORST emergency room I have ever been to. The waiting time is horrendous!! I took my husband on a Saturday and several people had been waiting over 8 hours to be seen!!! Many people were angry and upset at the long wait, so they just left. We ended up leaving too. We went back on Sunday and had another horrible experience! There was no communication, the staff was rude, and we had to wait forever!! I was treated with great professionalism at the Emergency room in Valdosta. It started as I cheked in then as I was being processed. It did not stop there the nurses took great care of me and to top it all off Dr. Edgerton was the best. He really wanted to see me get better. He made you feel important and that was relieving. It is scary to go there. The rooms are filthy. A visiting Friend of mine died of this MRSA while visiting his Mother].The staff is over stressed and In my personal experience -as a patient-, yell at you even if it is their fault. Hires and "Trains"on the job the "technicians"[instead of hiring trained one - saving money- putting the life of the patient in danger. Doctors do not show up at appointment for a pre-op. When Dying Seems Preferable to Treatment When the most competent area of the hospital is its cafeteria, you know you're in trouble. And when you as a layperson know more about your condition than the attending PA or Ducktor know (or at least let on that they know), you really know you're in trouble. I had to go to SGMC and I've since decided if I'm in an emergency I'll just drive to Thomasville Archbold Hospital, unless I'm showing clear signs of a heart attack or stroke. I don't ask for much, but I DO think a hospital should do 2 things: 1) Tell the patient what tests they are doing and why = keep the patient informed. 2) Give the patient a diagnosis upon discharge and explain it. These seem to me absolutely basic, but neither was carried out in my two visits to the Valdosta SGMC ER. read more

Valdosta is very fortunate to have a cancer center like PCC. The doctors, nurses and staff are world-class!! The facility is awesome! The care that I received during my cancer treatment was incredible!!! A big thank you to Dr, Eric Anderson for taking such good care of me! read more

Anytime I've ever had to deal with SGMC I've been flabbergasted at how HORRIBLE the service is. I've had to sit with friends in the emergency room for HOURS before being seen or sitting in the room alone for long periods of time. (Most) Staff here seem to not enjoy their jobs or care when people are in pain and needing attention. You have to be sort of demanding for them to even relatively (seem to) care. If this wasn't the only hospital I could typically go to for an emergency I would go elsewhere. Most of the time if I need to go to the hospital and can make it to Tallahassee I just go there. read more

The wait time in the er is insane. I've been to bigger city's and the wait was nowhere near as bad as here. Expect to wait about 8+ hours if you want to be seen by a doc. Everything else isn't too bad. read more
