Today we had Beef Keema, Butter Chicken, Tikka Marsala and Garlic Naan. The portions are generous. The service is prompt and friendly. The heat is just perfect on all the dishes. Amazingly delicious. I ordered the pork and chicken curry. My wife ordered Tikka masala and some naan bread. Theyir spicy garlic sauce is REALLY good and the meat was cooked so well and so tender. The rice was perfectly done, soaked in the juices from the meat VERY well and all in all I was amazed at the taste. It simply tastes awesome! Shali's is probably one of my favorite cultural gems of Nac! I'm used to all the big city options for Indian food, so to find Shali's Kitchen here was like a finding a unicorn. We've chatted them up a few times (oddly enough over having "big city" bank cards). They hail from Abilene area of all places. I could not thank them enough for choosing Nac. They always have a consistent stream of people. Their location and menu is posted on their Facebook Page. They'll even post closings or special events (like the food truck events). The helpings are generous and flavorful. They'll let you sample anything you aren't familiar with. All their dishes have the deep, rich flavors you except. These folks take no short cuts. You can always ask them for some extra heat and they'll add it to the side for you. Mango Lassi is SPOT ON! Serving is on the small side, but think about how much real mango goes into your $3 drink. Shali continues to outdo herself. Today I ordered the Kofta curry which is one of my favorite dishes. It's always very very good but today was SINFULLY exceptional. The curry was so so smooth and the flavors were deep and delicious. The Kofta was perfect.. I was planning on posting a photo of this dish. But got sidetracked when I opened the tray and ate it all before I noticed my camera looking sad and left out. Next time maybe. We eat a food trucks frequently during this pandemic. Shali's is hands down the best Indian food in East Texas and one of the overall best places to eat around Nacogdoches. The food truck location changes daily. You can track where the food truck will be through the Facebook page. The owner posts often, but is also responsive to private messages. I have never tried anything that I didn't like. Ate at Shali's for the first time today, and will definitely be back. Enjoyed the gobi tikka masala, which was very creamy and had perfectly cooked vegetables. Not mushy, not hard. Seriously, PERFECT texture. The sauce was flavorful, but pretty mild, so no fears for Indian food newbies. Nothing to be scared of. The butter garlic naan was also good, although I'm a plain naan person, myself. And the mango lassi was a little on the small side, but excellent. Great flavor, nice and thick, and not too sweet. With an entree and a lassi, I'm stuffed. I managed to choke down half my naan, but I was plenty full without it. So portion size for the $8 entree seemed appropriate to me. From watching Shali's Facebook posts about menu and location, and from chatting with them, it sounds like they have something veggie every day as a main meal, in addition to something for carnivores. The main entrees vary by day, so check out the FB post in advance if you want to know what's on tap. All in all, I'm so glad I stopped in tonight. And I will definitely be back. Especially if I see saag paneer or veggie curries pop up in the menu, but I'd happily try almost anything here. read more
