A little expensive for what it is, but pretty solid dishes.
As a new establishment, I understand they are probably working out the kinks still. At this price point there are some points of service which are expected/make for a more pleasant experience, but are lacking at the moment - not that staff aren't friendly or open to feedback.
Tsa Kai Bao / BBQ Bao
Interesting way to present a bao (in a burger form), a little sweet but satisfying to eat.
Typhoon Shelter Tofu
I can see why this is a recommended dish of the restaurant: Silky eggy tofu fried with crispy alliums! This is a great dish to introduce people not familiar with how tasty tofu can be!
Salty Crunch Chicken & Corn
This seems like the same dish as the Typhoon Shelter Tofu, but with Chicken and corn on the cob. A slightly odd mixture, and for a restaurant sitting I would have personally preferred the corn off the cob for a simpler eating experience. The chicken to corn ratio is 50/50, probably a little too much corn for me.
Steamy Meaty Egg
Delicious, but totally not what I expected from the (hilarious) description! This is a steamed egg with pork strips (not pork floss, the dried meat condiment).
Shanghai Papa Lo Min*
The one time I had it (I selected the wide noodles), it seemed a little overcooked, but the taste was ok. I would have expected fresh noodles (not dried), but with the cooking I couldn't really enjoy the noodle texture. It has 'fishy' seasoning (like an XO/dried baby anchovy/squid profile), if that is something you dislike.
Po Tjai Faan*
The casserole is a little underwhelming for it's potential, the rice does not taste like it is cooked together with the taro mix which makes the €4 extra (as compared with plain rice) a pricey upcharge. However the topping seems like it would have been delicious as a dish!
*Both the Lo Min and Faan are low are on seasoning, which I can understand for a side intended to be eaten with a main, but just as a heads up if you wanted to mix sides in a meal
I love the concept of elevated eating experience with Chinese food, but more care needs to be delivered in the dishes and service to justify the portion and price point. I hope to come back again and see improvements as they have been running longer :) read more
