Extremely poor handling of a firearm transfer and unacceptable communication. Before shipment, I called to confirm that Sharpshooters accepted transfers and asked how long the check-in process typically takes. I was told I would be called immediately once the firearm arrived. UPS shows the package was delivered Thursday at 12:00 PM. By approximately 3:00 PM Thursday, I went in person since I had not received any call. An employee and I located the box together, but I was told they were too busy to check it in and that I would have to wait for a call. At the time, the store was not busy, with only one other customer present. Friday passed with no communication. When I called around 5:45 PM Friday, I was told they could not locate my firearm and that I would need to call back Saturday afternoon. I called again Saturday at 2:45 PM and was told once more that they were too busy to check in transfers, with no timeline given--only that someone would call when they eventually got to it. I clearly stated that I needed it checked in that day, and was again told I would simply have to wait. Out of concern, I contacted several other local gun shops to ask about their transfer process. Every other shop indicated that standard firearm transfers are typically checked in and ready for pickup the same day, excluding suppressors for obvious legal reasons. As of now, my firearm is still sitting unchecked in their possession with repeated communication failures and no accountability. I always swing by Sharp Shooters when I come to see my son at Texas Tech. Friendly staff, great inventory. Picked up a 7.62x39 Ruger American rifle that has been difficult to find for 2+ years. Decent price and in stock. Though I noticed their Lahti L-39 anti-tank rifle was gone. Sure wish I could have shot that thing. read more

When my husband tried to use it, they said because they switched to a different system, we could only have $50.00. They lied to me. It's been many years since I wrote my first review of Sharpshooters in 2013. Since then a lot has changed. New workers, new location, new gun culture. In the past few years I've noticed the staff is quite friendly. The store is clean and presentable. Prices are more competitive than before albeit still somewhat high. But we felt very rushed and like we was being rushed out... it's seems like if your not wearing name brand expensive and look like you have money. I accepted a verbal recommendation to use the gunsmith at Sharp Shooters when my 9mm wouldn't fire consistently. When my gun was returned to me it didn't seem right; the assembly pin was very loose and the slide stop moved too easily. I didn't take an opportunity to test fire it as quickly as I should have, but when I did the slide stop would jump up and stop the slide after each round, then with the slide locked open the assembly pin would just fall out. I got some help to disassemble my gun and did some research - the slide stop spring was completely missing! I took the gun back to Sharp Shooters and they said they would make it right. After two weeks I called, but had to leave a message because the gunsmith doesn't work on Mondays. That Thursday I showed up at the shop because he hadn't returned my call, but all I got was lame excuses about shipping delays. I finally got a call today saying my gun was ready - four weeks after I took it back. The gunsmith wasn't there so another employee had to get it from the back, but when he gave it to me the magazine was missing. Good thing I was ready to do a full inspection and fight for what was owed me or I still wouldn't have been made whole. Very disappointed by my experiences at Sharp Shooters. read more

Well managed, safe, and a nice place to go shooting. I was very pleased to take my granddaughter here to target shoot.

I've been there a few times to buy gun cleaning supplies, and browse their inventory, but never to buy a gun, as I have always been well aware they are overpriced. But I stopped in today to pick up some primers, and "overpriced" has become an understatement. Indeed, if you intend to buy a firearm, ammo, or anything else from here, you better bring lube because you and you're wallet are gonna get treated like a prison bride. I understand that prices are higher across more or less all aspects of the firearms industry, but what's going on at this place is outrageous. I can't see how anyone doesn't have enough sense NOT to pay the prices they are asking. For example, they're trying to get $70 for a 20rd box of Federal Premium .270--a box of ammo that would run you less than $40 at Academy. Granted, they have inventory when pretty much everyone else does not, but their prices explain why. So, no need to shop here unless you're desperate. Even if you like to support local businesses, there are plenty others in Lubbock that will not try to bend you over a barrel. One might be inclined to think that Sharp's prices could be justified by a high standard of customer service--NOT TRUE. As stated in other posts, it's nothing special, and subpar at best. Finally, I've never used their gun smith, so I can't speak directly as to whether they offer quality or value in this regard. However, the reason I have not used them is because I've talked to others who said they were awful and "wouldn't even trust them to mount a rifle scope." read more

This place takes a lot of flack and granted it is not the cheapest place in town. That being said I've recently started buying my guns there and have actually met the owner (Charles) and a few of the guys and all of them are knowledgeable and friendly in general. Its a perfect example of shopping at Walmart or a mom and pop shop. If you want somebody who knows whats going on with your gun and will be there the next time you go in then give them a shot. Lol. Furthermore, if you're considering taking the CHL course I took it through them today and it was amazing! Daniel Sickles, the instructor is awesome! Again, it isn't the cheapest, but when it comes to guns who wants the cheapest? This place isn't for the typical cheap ass. It isn't like its double the cost its usually within a few dollars and the price match if you're that tight. They won me over when the owner actually came out and talked to me one on one and showed me some guns that I was contemplating and showed me how much he personally knew about the vast array of guns they have and that are being made today. If you want a cheap gun then keep shopping at Walmart. If you actually care about service and about quality of gun then check them out. read more

They have a vast selection of firearms. Whatever they do not have they can get for you. They price match most items too. Some of the staff is phenomenal while others are lacking in people skills but all that I have spoken to do know guns. The owner is on top of their game and will do whatever is possible and within reason to earn your business. Please take it from me do not get mad when an employee misinforms you or seems rude. Sometimes you don't have a great experience with a business, but you give them the benefit of the doubt and try again. Well, we are sick of trying again and won't be back. We have been there in the past and were ignored (though it wasn't busy and it seemed 8 people were currently working). When we asked for help, it was though we were bothering them. I recently ordered a rifle and thought I'd try again. After all, the store is nice and they have some positive reviews. I called and asked if they could order a rifle for me. I was told they'd have the manager look and would call back the next day. Over the course of a week, I called daily. The person I had dealt with was out, but each time whoever answered the phone never once asked if they could help. Instead they seemed in hurry to get off the phone and I couldn't seem to get an update from anyone. I finally found the rifle elsewhere and purchased it, and had it shipped to Sharp Shooters. I had also purchased a scope and was told that we could bring that in there to have it mounted and purchase the rings and rail. We did that. We walked in and explained that I has ordered a rifle and that we were there to bring the scope and have it mounted. There were seven people standing around and though it was close to closing time, it was not yet. They all looked at each other like it was time to draw straws to see who was going to have to deal with us. They took us back to a computer and said to start filling it out, and walked off. We stood there for awhile after getting it filled out (there were no clear instructions about whether we needed to submit it or wait for assistance. In the meantime, everyone that works there is chit chatting and standing around, and making it very clear that they are ready to leave and we are holding them up. We finally flag down someone and ask what we need to do next and emphasized again that we weren't ready to take the rifle yet, but wanted the scope mounted and to leave it with them for that purpose. They tell us to go find rings. We stand there looking, waiting for help. Everyone is standing around the cash register ignoring us. Again we ask for help and someone comes over to tell us what rings and rail we need. At this point I'm ready to be done with this crappy experience. Then, we ask again what we need to do next and reiterate we want to just leave the scope there for mounting. The guy gets an attitude and tells us we started the paperwork so "you're taking it with you because you had the intent of walking out with it". I guess the three times (plus when we called ahead and gave my name to let them know our intent) wasn't clear enough. Fine, whatever. In hindsight, I'm glad that we now have no reason to return. We waited for the background to come back, and continued to look around the store while the staff continued to ignore us. Finally, someone came over and had me sign the paperwork and said we were "good to go". So, we gathered everything up and left. We get out to the car and the same person that told us we were good to go" asked if we paid. Well, when I had asked about a transfer fee on the phone, the person I spoke to didn't know, and since nobody really spoke to us while we were there, we weren't aware that was owed. I pointed out to him that he had told us we were "good to go". We went back in and the entire staff is still crowded around the cash register talking. We stand there awkwardly (it was very off-putting and again, gave the impression we were "bothering" them and intrusive) until they scooted over slightly. There are several boxes of ammo sitting in front of me and another guy leans over, reaches across me without a word or an "excuse me", and starts picking up the boxes. I've never felt so unwelcome in a store. The rifle and suppressor I found in looking around that I had a made a note to come back for will just have to stay there - I'll find them somewhere else with a business that actually values me as a customer. There is a serious need for basic manners and customer service here. By the time we left, we had already decided we wouldn't be coming back to buy the rings and rail and have the scope mounted. We went to another place in town (where the staff were friendly, welcoming, and very helpful) and left it with them. We are enthusiasts and hunters, and will gladly spend our money where we and our service are acknowledged and appreciated. read more

I've been into this shop a few times. Recently I was calling in to check on availability for a few handguns (one of which I would eventually purchase) , I was placed on 'hold' and after waiting patiently for about 5-6 minutes decided to hang up. I called back and asked why I never had anyone return to the line and at least explain the hold.....i was given the response "look i'm very busy and don't have time to look up these weapons for you" I was actually pretty shocked...... I actually remember many years ago when this shop was fairly new (early 2000s)..... I had decided to check out their safes........dunno why , but these idiots decided to store revolvers in here & NOT LOCK them.......I notified a shop tenant. I've been coming here for years, yes the prices are a little higher then others on some items but for the most part they're reasonably priced, especially when they have what I want in stock! ( and they have a lot of stock) The staff has always been extremely helpful & friendly. I called this shop on 1-20-2020 inquiring about a specific handgun. I was told I would receive a call back. I placed a second call on 1-21-2020 and spoke to a nice gentleman named Gary I believe. I inquired about the same pistol as I did the day prior. He sold me 2 pistols over the phone and I provided all the required information he requested. I got a call back approximately 1.5hrs later and paid for the shipping, shortly after that I received an email with tracking information. I then received another call stating someone had made an error and the 2 pistols I've already paid for couldn't be sold to me. Naturally I was unhappy and asked why. The guy said the guns are going to be posted on Gun Broker and sold for more money. As a small business owner I understand money makes the world go around, but on the other hand without customers we would have no business to begin with. Worst Gun shop ever! read more

I don't go into this shop anymore, because I have never had a positive experience there. I've been in multiple times over the years, and the staff is fairly rude and inattentive, they have little interest in showing you firearms that you're considering, and are not interested in discussing firearms and alternatives when you're trying to make a decision. This, coupled with higher prices than the other stores in town make Sharp Shooters a very poor decision to do business with. There are better gun shops in town that deserve our business. read more

Walked in and walked around a bit, stood infront of the display waiting to see if I could get some help. 2 guys behind the counter, one was helping another customer and the other was talking politics with a woman the whole time I stood there, never got acknowledged not even ill be right with you. Prices are borderline criminal. Left after standing there 25 mins. Will not set foot in this store again. Just lost out on a possible $1300 sale. Went here the other day to get some reloading supplies. The staff were friendly and extremely knowledgable. I was able to get the powder and primers I needed and they were at the price I exactly expected to pay. I will definitely be back when I need more powder, projectiles, primers, and so forth. FYI: They had an enormous supply of arms available as well as ammo, reloading materials, accessories, and such. Great all in one store. read more

I got royally screwed on a trade and pistol purchase. I know it was my fault, because I accepted the trade. The pistol drastically malfunctioned and I was told they could not do anything or complain to the company because they did not want to hurt their relationship. Well, they hurt mine. It took me 6 months to finally get the pistol replaced, they would trade back for the new one even though I bough the original from them. I ended up trading it to another store. Took a huge beating. Was supposed to be #4 on a list for a new Kimber revolver. That was over a year ago and still no call. Haven't been back since and probably won't. read more

Very poor service. I've bought reloading supplies there, not because I want to, because they are the only one that have items. In 5 years of buying from them I can count the words spoken to me as less than 10. Don't go to buy primers unless you want 1000. Won't break a case for you or no discount for bulk buy. Its $6.95 per 100 or 69.50 for 1000. They don't seem to give receipts for cash purchases which seems shady to me. read more

I have been in here several times and have bought a couple of firearms. I had some modifications made on my AR-15 and they did a great job. I got good deals on the guns I bought there. I looked elsewhere and I got a better price than I could at Academy or Gander Mountain. I agree that there ammo is sometimes overpriced, but I was in there the other day and it was cheaper than Academy. Gary has always been helpful when I go in there and has taken his time to show us what we wanted to look at. They are knowledgeable about their firearms. read more

The beginning of December 2017 my husband and I went him to get him a shoulder holster. He is left handed and we needed to order one, at that time the lady was very helpful, this would be the last of the helpfulness. She would call us in a week when the holster came in, after 2 weeks I called to check on it and she immediately said no it not here, I ask her to look and she said no, its not here. I waited two more weeks and called back and a man answered and said that he would run a check on it.No call back. We were called in January and it was finally here, so we went in and it was a right handed holster, so they told us that the distributor would be in town that week and he for sure would have one. No word so we gave up. My husband just called me, Guess What??(mind you today is January 3rd 2019), ( recap of their conversation) Your holster is in, He just laughed and said no thank you, that was a year and a month ago that we ordered it, She said you mean you don't want it? No, I don't said my hubby. This girl really thought it was okay to to be surprised that we are not taking this holster. Service is horrible.. and the younger guys give you horrible service with an attitude. Last year, I ordered a Walther P22 from them for a Christmas present.... still waiting for their call. Previously ordered a laser sight for my Ruger LCP. Three weeks later, I visited the store and the ordered sight and another one was in the display case. Never again. Their ammo prices are stupid high. I now use Cheaper Than Dirt for ammo and LSG Tactical Arms on 34th for guns. Prices are great with nice accommodating, knowledgable employees. read more

Sharp Shooters WILL rip you off. the only thing good abou them is that they have a lot of firearms to look at. If you are not part of their buddy system then they really act like your interupting their day. They send out their buddies to all of the stores to buy up the ammo then resell it at WAY too high prices. one day i was in on a thursday and .22lr in a 525 box was 85.00 the following saturday the same box was 99.00. I understand that the ammo has gone up but they are just sticking it to you. i wish more people would boycott them to send them a message. read more

I am not a new customer here. Several years ago I bought numerous collectible knives, a couple of medium priced pistols, then purchased a very nice Kimber. Little did I know that after I walked out the door it would be my last purchase. The employee I dealt with left for another job almost 6-7 years ago, and apparently that was the last person with any manners at all. I have returned maybe 5-6 times and have never been treated more rudely at any place of business. Sharpshooters is a business anomaly, there is no way any restaurant, car lot, or retail service business would ever stay in business with employees this rude and disrespectful. I am writing this review after walking in there two days ago to buy a b-day gift for a friend. After 30 minutes I could not get anyone to even acknowledge my existence. They weren't busy and employees were loudly talking amongst themselves, on their cellphones, and talking to one single customer who was an in uniform police officer. Another customer asked for help and I chimed in that I had been there for a very long time and needed some assistance as well. What I got was a irate and rude employee who basically asked me why I even came in and exactly what I wanted. When I explained I was looking for someone else and wasn't sure but wanted to look at a few different knives he simply acted very angry and walked away and never returned. I was nice and pleasant the entire time and cannot believe any business is consistently like this. As I walked out the door all I got were glares and met with the other customer who was also walking out after not getting any service. We exchanged comments about the disgusting behavior. There is no single employee problem here, this business has persistently been this way for years and after speaking with the owner, like myself, you will see exactly where the problem lies. Top to bottom. I will never again spend a penny in this business and I am writing this to save others the horrible treatment and frustration you will get at Sharpshooters, undoubtedly the worst business I have ever been to in my entire life. It's Christmas season, the store was busy, but the workers made sure to welcome each guest, and immediately took care of my purchase extremely quickly.
