Once he was 4 years old he was able to transfer to St. Joseph's for TK. His teacher, Mrs. Mangas was great. My son was always excited to go to school and always came home singing the cutest songs. He learned SO much in that one year of TK. For kindergarten he was in Mrs. Ramirez's class and it was another wonderful experience. In his kindergarten year I really noticed his social skills developing and he was always talking about the friends he was making. One thing I also noticed is that they did so many hands on projects in Mrs. Ramirez's class. My son did have some behavioral issues while in kindergarten and Mrs. Ramirez was really great about discussing the issues and trying to brainstorm resolutions together after school. This was really helpful because I would do the same things she was doing to help him in class at home, and us being on the same page really helped him. My son is coming to the end of his first grade year and is now in Mrs. Schwartz's class. He loves his teacher and has learned an unbelievable amount of academics this year. They did a really cute play too! They also have an atrium that is sort of like a Montessori classroom set up where the kids get to go explore and learn through hands on activities. My son loves atrium. Another thing that he enjoys is his music class. I really like the smaller community and how involved all of the parents are in their children's success. St. Joseph's has been an amazing blessing to my family and I look forward to having my youngest start when she is old enough for preschool! I have no doubt that my kids are going to have bright futures after attending St. Joseph's!

The teachers are wonderful and the education/curriculum is first-rate. If you are a working parent or your child needs any kind of individualized attention from the teacher (think dyslexia or manageable ADHD), the principal will cancel a parent/teacher meeting, reschedule it, and call you at work to come in you ahead of time to his office alone to give you a spiel. You will not be allowed to speak, and no spouse or teacher will be present. The current principal (10/2019) is an educator accustomed to, apparently, submissive behavior from parents and respectful compliance from teachers and students. His own child, he explains, has an IEP. But since private schools do not get funding as public schools do, it's quietly known that he invites parents to leave his school if an IEP is needed for a "nobody student". If you have Ivy League aspirations and a very compliant child, this is a gold-star facility. Otherwise, it will leave you confused and scrambling to find a new school home for your child halfway through the year, or whenever the principal has decided your child isn't worth the teacher's effort. In this case, please seek out the other private religious educational facility in the Redding area, or a Charter school. I'm cutting up my expensive St. Joseph shirts into cleaning rags tonight. My son is not beyond their teaching capabilities even if this isn't the era of nuns with rulers any longer. "Serviam", indeed.

For years, we endured an unsafe and hostile environment, not just for him, but for me as a parent advocating for his rights. On my son's very first day, I witnessed a special needs student punch another, and instead of stepping in to de-escalate, the teacher simply placed the child back in line right next to the student he hit. It was a red flag, especially for a school with vulnerable children who may not be able to speak up. My son is one of them. Despite repeated requests and documented concerns including eloping from class, self-injurious behavior like him banging his head on the floor and walls or him smashing his toes against the ground until they bleed as well as an inability to understand dangers like traffic, bodies of water etc. the school denied him a one-on-one aide. This was a direct violation of his right to FAPE. The school even told me that a 1:1 wouldn't even help my special needs child.. Something no special needs parent who understands the concept and benefits of their child having a one on one paraprofessional during school hours would accept. After raising these concerns over many occasions I began experiencing retaliation. Staff began targeting me including glaring at me in in a hateful manner during IEP meetings, forcing me to resort to IEP meetings over the phone out of discomfort of staff intentionally trying to intimidate me, pulling up beside me in their car making inappropriate gestures to me in front of my children, refusing to allow me on school campus at pick up time out of spite while allowing others in and gossiping about me to other staff right in front of my face. When I confronted them or reported the behavior to the principal, nothing changed. The same staff remain employed there to this day despite multiple reports being made involving the same employees. Also, in kindergarten, my child with special needs who is also non-verbal began coming home with frequent unexplained bruises that would at times cover his entire body. His whole demeanor was changing. I documented all the bruising as well as his new behaviors. When I came to them with my concerns, the school responded by calling CPS on me rather than investigating what was happening on their watch. In 2023 a teachers aide witnessed on multiple occasions my son's (at the time) teacher Tyler Lee, putting his hands on the special needs children as well as being emotionally and verbally abusive towards them. The teachers aide felt it was necessary to inform a parent of one of the children affected by the teachers actions regardless of "school policy". When the cops were called the school said that they would "handle it internally". The teacher aid who told on the abusive teacher ended up having to leave the school and the teacher who was abusing the children was never arrested. The parents of children in that classroom were never properly informed of the abuse and was given a letter saying that the kids will be getting a new teacher. We only learned of the athis through the News Channel 7 article that can still be found on Google search (Former staff member says they witnessed abuse at Meadow Lane Elementary). I hope others read this and think twice before sending their special needs child to Meadow Lane.

These are wives, mothers and grandmothers working here, which is great! I can talk to them and even exchange motherly wisdom. They are open to making adjustments wherever need be. As a nursing mom, I use my breaks to feed my daughter and have been doing so for several months. They have been so accommodating to this. They work as a team to raise the babies. I have never came there and my daughter was soaked and dirty, with the exception of her need to grab for the spoon during her morning feeds(can we say mess). She does this with me, so I don't expect them to be miracle workers. One of my favorite things about this place, outside of the staffing, is how the kids are separated. We all know that the older a kid gets the more they are into things, the more aggressive they can be and so forth. I passed up many Daycare Centers because the kids were grouped or easily had access to another group. Here, the kids are divided into rooms (with actual doors and hallways) and buildings, not only by AGE but also by DEVELOPMENT. The experienced walkers are separated from the crawlers, and non crawler and so forth. There are plenty of toys, learning activities, and reading. Ok lets talk price. They are by far the best when it comes to working with you. My husband and I schedules are rarely consistent. Sometimes we need full time, sometimes we do not. Unlike many other organizations, Kinderland has adjustable pricing and are willing to credit for the time that was not used. For me this was fabulous. When we decided to go out of town we did not get charged for those days that she was not in attendance. You will find that most places charge you for a set schedule regardless if the days are used and for their time off/holidays. Just a side note. I think it is important for parents to take the time to connect and share with the caregiver. Let them know your needs, they are pact full of information and can tell you what is going on (just in case you missed it). Not every place is meant for everyone, that is why we have options. Take the time to choose wisely.

She called me twice with this concern before starting. We adjusted his schedule and he began napping at home around noon. 2.5 hours into his first day I received a phone call stating he's extremely overwhelmed, not wanting to participate in activities and trying to leave the classroom. He's 3 and has never been to a school before only home daycare. Of course he's overwhelmed. Instead of giving him a few days to adjust she was insistent he would not be a good fit and had us withdrawal. I also offered to become an aid and help him for the first few weeks, she refused. Children learn from consistency and repetition. They are also extremely receptive to rejection and my has never been more relieved to be see me. Be careful when looking into this place! They filter out any children that don't immediately conform to their standards.

I can't say enough positive things about our experience with Montessori. I had a difficult time initially understanding how the system would work. Without structured lessons, how can your child earn the necessities like reading and numbers? It turns out that by allowing my son to spend as long as HE wants on a given activity he has flourished and gone so much farther than I'd ever imagined a child his age could in the subjects that most interest him. He's working with numbers in the 10,000s and can complete geography puzzles that would have me stumped. He spent months sewing yarn on square canvases to create a box, a little bit each day. I'm astonished by the focus and dedication a child under 6 can have to a project when allowed to work on what they choose, instead of at the teacher's behest. It's been a truly eye-opening experience about education. We are definitely Montessori converts and our 2 year old will be joining in the Fall. All the teachers and staff members are kind and attentive with many years of Montessori experience. They've encouraged my son to learn while guiding him through the lessons at his pace. He's excited to show me his work and takes pride in his accomplishments. It's been an awesome experience.
