Had them come out due to a voltage drop with a load on my electric. 2 guys showed up late, and were here for 4 hours. All they did was check the connections in my breaker box took out my meter, checked that and after 4 hours found nothing. I was charged $566 for nothing....called the power company, they where here in 30 minutes, the guy found the problem in the meter box, fixed it and was gone in 20 minutes. I'll NEVER use this company again !!!!!!! read more

I have used Shaum Electric several times in the past 5 years for residential purposes and find their work excellent. The electricians who came to my house were very professional and cleaned up after work was completed. I will use them again should the need arise... read more

Established in 1945.

Since 1945, Shaum Electric has grown from a small business operating out of Lowell and Lucille Shaum's basement to the employer of more than 50 at its northwest-side headquarters. The company keeps up with rapid advances in electrical technology. Modern energy-saving work includes installation of state-of-the art energy efficient light fixtures along with power factor correction projects. The company's motor repair includes complete rewind of AC and DC motors and repair and replacement of electric hoists. Electric motor sales include an inventory from fractional to 125 horsepower with most others available in a day.

Why say its $145 to come out if its minimum $300 no matter if they leave in 5 mins. Why not say…read more$300 for the 1st hour and then whatever your rate is after that 1st hour? I complained and they dropped to $255 but still not upfront in my eyes. They said the $255 was the price had it not been after hours. intitially I asked how much to come out and take a look. Was told $145 since it was after hours which is fair. Then the bill was over $300 for 5 mins of work. No parts were replaced or anything just a flipped switch. most companies that simple of a thing would have been included in the $145 service charge. If they would have spent half an hour putting a new valve on or something the 1hour labor charge would have been justifiably. They are nice on the phone and nice when they show up but when it comes to the bill I hope people can learn from this.
