This morning, I went to a property I own to check on the water pipes, make sure the cupboards were open, etc., and was immediately greeted by a strong smell of gas. I called Semco, and they sent someone out right away (props to them as well) to investigate. After initially contacting another company and being made to feel like my situation was an inconvenience, I reached out to Michiana Heating & Air Conditioning. Michele, who answered the phone, was incredibly understanding, and I was very impressed with her excellent customer service. The technician, Mike, was equally outstanding--efficient, knowledgeable, and able to correct the gas leak at a very reasonable price. Both Michele and Mike are friendly, customer-focused professionals and true assets to the company, and I hope Michiana Heating & Air Conditioning knows just how valuable they are. Rick gave us superlative service in our 3,800 sf house during our blockbuster heat spell of the past few days. He came on time, inspected every inch and every vent of our huge house and replaced all the filters which have not been changed in over four years (before we bought the house) and did not leave until the thermostat started going down to the low 70s. We have used Michigan for several years. But the service/sales seems to have changed. We are members of their scheduled and when it came time to service and clean our ac unit we were told a part was needing to be replaced ($235). It was, and we paid. About 5 weeks later the unit quit completely, so we called for service and were told it was the condenser before even looking at it. He did some messing with the unit but came in and said we needed a new unit and quoted us a price right there. We called another place for an estimate and within 30 minutes fixed our unit ( shorted out wire!) it seems that Michiana has become more interested in SELLING than servicing! I called Michiana to ask if I could be reimbursed for the$215 given them for diagnosing my AC unit because it obviously was not diagnosed at all. But they refused! I had gotten three quotes for a mini split, and was definitely impressed with Noah from Michiana Heating and Air Conditioning. Noah listened to me and heard my needs as well as really explained things well. Whereas the other two quotes just told me what to do, without any discussion, and I was not keen on their ideas. Quick service and response time to make needed repairs. Courteous, professional staff. My only complaint is that paying hundreds of dollars for the yearly maintenance plan for my furnace, A/C, Humidifer, and fireplace, I feel they are double charging me for a needed maintenance on the humidifier. $170+ for a service call to maintain a covered item. The humidifier was leaking and needed service, but this is included in annual maintenance. Had it been properly serviced, I would not have needed any repair. I understand the overhead involved in after hours service techs coming out in the cold. I just thought $170 was unreasonable for a covered item. I offered to split it ($85) but no response. Makes me wonder about the wisdom, necessity, and utility of the annual maintenance contract. read more

They showed me the issues and then worked up a couple options to replace my furnace and AC. They helped me find the right replacements for my budget and lined up the install within a few days. We had 5 different local companies quote for replacement of our furnace and a/c unit. I was very impressed with Michiana heating and air because they made some observations that all the other companies missed and when I asked questions, they had answers and explained them to me in a way I could understand. There were no pushy sales techniques and they didn't try to sell us things we didn't need. Once we agreed upon what we wanted and contacted them, they were immediately available to begin the work. Both furnace and a/c were completed in day and a half and the installers were very courteous and friendly. They even found favor with our German shepherd, who doesn't always like strangers in the house. We wanted the best so we chose the high-end carrier products and the service was top notch. We paid cash and received a 10% discount and they did quality work. I will follow up on this review if there are any issues but I was extremely satisfied and would recommend this company. The owner stressed that they do things by the book and pulled permits for all of the work. He also stressed the weekly training that they do with all of their installers and repair team and that is something that really caught my attention. Our furnace failed on a Tuesday, we called this business to service it, The technician came out and did a diagnostic review of the furnace, he did a great job called us promptly let us know what the problem was. He ordered parts for our furnace, the furnace is only four years old so the parts were covered by the company, Trane. Told us the parts would hopefully come in on Friday. The parts did not come in which is understandable. We called again on Saturday and talked to the service manager, he was on call that particular weekend. We just asked that he check on Whether the parts would come in that day, he said he would go to the business and check as they get deliveries around noon. He promised he would call us either way. All We asked him was to please make sure he let us know if parts came in or not as it was bitter cold . He promised he would call. Well, he never called. Monday they came and installed parts. Technician was very professional and completed the work in one hour. Charge for the one hour installation was 510.00. Call the service manager Tuesday asking why he never got back to us and wanted a breakdown of the costs, (no paperwork with breakdown was given to us). Service manager was rude and defensive stating that he was busy on Saturday and didn't have time to call us. Okay a call takes 2 minutes, . Didn't even get to ask him about the cost of the repair because he just ended up hanging up. Good luck with this place. read more

Several years back I called most of the local H&AC companies to diagnose and repair my central air unit since the original contractor had retired. I was able to get only 2 to come out. Both stated that due to the type of refrigerant required, a total replacement was the only solution and wouldn't even attempt a repair. Most wouldn't even come out unless l agreed to purchase a new unit while describing the issue over the phone. I finally had Michiana H&A come out. Wished I had called them first. They also advised to eventually replace the original unit but was able to get my old AC running through the heatwave (with no guarantee of how long it would last). Their temp fix allowed us to save and budget for a new heat pump a year and a half later, with provisions to install a new furnace in the future. They discovered that the original contractor had drilled a hole in the condenser pan causing water to drip on the furnace circuit boards and started corroding the heat exchanger (they sealed the pan during the temp repair of the orig AC unit since a replacement pan was no longer available). They were thorough, professional, and made every possible attempt in prolonging the life of our heating and cooling system until a replacement could be afforded. That was several ago and I've never looked back. Love our (new then) Carrier heat pump and furnace. I am recommending them to my elderly grandmother since her regular contractor being out of business. Highly recommended! read more

DO NOT CALL THESE GUYS IF YOU HAVE A HOME WARRANTY!!!! And in general, I'd recommend going elsewhere for your service needs. This company is more concerned about getting paid - and the way they get paid - than taking care of their customers. I had these guys come out on a Saturday to take a look at my furnace. They charged me a $119 fee for the diagnostic, which I knew up front. Whether I agree with the $119 diagnostic fee policy or not, I had them come anyway since I assumed I'd be paying for some repairs. My home warranty is great about covering the costs of repairs, so I wasn't concerned about the diagnostic fee. It turns out that Michiana Heating & Air REFUSES to work with home warranties. They wouldn't even get on the phone with the warranty company. They apparently don't want my business or need the money. Nevermind that my home warranty company allows me to choose any contractor, nevermind that it has covered 100% of the last 5 claims I've made, nevermind that Michiana H&A would have made plenty of money from an extremely simple replacement of parts, their policy is to NEVER work with home warranty companies. Money is money, business is business. If I managed my business by refusing customers, I'd be fired. Thankfully there are plenty of companies that can do this work that are happy to have the business. The ONLY reason I used Michiana H&A is that they had someone who could come on a Saturday. I won't be calling them again. They wasted my time and my money! To Michiana Heating & Air: Charging me $119 and then refusing to complete the repair because (in your opinion) it might be more difficult to collect payment is both shady and disrespectful. I thought they were very professional and very kind. One thing I really liked is I live alone and they sent me a picture of the technician coming to my home so when I open the door and saw his face I knew he was an okay guy. He came in and said it was an easy fix. He fixed it in less than 15 minutes. He came up and explain to me what happened about the sensor and how they collect dirt and sometimes all they need is to be cleaned and that's what he did and my furnace has been running ever since beautifully. I live in New Carlisle so it was quite the drive for him and my bill came to $157. I thought that was reasonable because whether we like it or not all service calls cost just to come out so I don't fault them for that. Would use them again read more

I have received at least 8 different quotes before I choose to go with Michiana Heating & Air Conditioning. We got A/C with full installation and a new gas furnace and removed our boiler. The price was great along with the financing was on point. Some even said with the price i will have to pay that they would recommend just getting portable air conditioners. We were super happy with the workers that came out. One minor set back and the Owner was there to make it right when we got home to discuss the options. AGAIN great service. I would recommend them. I had a Carrier air conditioning unit replaced in the middle of a heatwave. Since I am on a budget, I had them use several parts from my old system. (My furnace/blower is still working well.) Others were not willing to do so, perhaps because it was so hot outside, but perhaps because integration takes a bit more work.
