LOVE Broadway in Indy, but I want to offer a warning regarding Clowes, specifically the box seats…read more Previously Clowes was our favorite venue for Broadway in Indy. We have box seats but they recently "upgraded" the boxes. The "upgrades" on the seats have ruined the experience almost completely. They added plexiglass at the railing between the viewer and the stage so that you get a glare from the walkway lighting. But the bigger issue is that the seams and top of the plexiglass prefectly obscure/block your line of sight to the stage. On our side of the theater (left), you either have to lean over and bend down to the right to see below the top and to the side of the seam OR lean over and almost stand up to the left to see over the top and around the seam. And then there is the fact that you are a live event and having to watch it through a window, which renders the live experience moot. It's horrible, so much so that I'm glad we only have two more shows there this season. If you are attending any events at Clowes, absolutely do NOT buy a seat in a box. They are among the most expensive tickets and are now basically obstructed view seats not anywhere near worth the money you're going to pay. I am not sure what engineer or architect thought this plan was a good one, but I feel confident they never watched a show with the present setup. If I want to watch an event through plexiglass I'll watch hockey. If we renew our Broadway tickets next year, we'll be moving to different seats if the setup is the same, but this has actually made us question renewing at all.

I've been blessed to see Les Mis, The Lion King and School of Rock, all of which, were completely life-changing. Seriously! The set in Les Mis was beyond stellar, the costumes in The Lion King were creative beyond belief, and the children in School of Rock were nonstop the whole show - playing their own instruments and doing stellar choreography. (By the end of School of Rock, the whole audience was clapping to the beat and laughing with their rows - so fun). For a Broadway show, the prices are good. No, they're not cheap, but the talent, staging, costumes and more that you'll be witnessing deserves the ticket prices. PS: Drinks/concessions will be expensive so eat before you go!

But when we got to our theatre spot, we noticed that the chairs were all torn up, and the cupholders were filled with leftover food. It was an accident, but one of the staff members also spilled beer on my granddaughter's dress as he was serving our food to our seats. But it was nice how he immediately apologized and went to get her some rags. Another thing to add was how the stalls in the women's bathroom closed poorlly and couldn't be locked. I truly recommend Living Room Theatre, but I did want to acknowledge a few mistakes made. (This review was written by my 10-year-old granddaughter.)

We are not always sophisticated people, but we are excellent at pretending. We started at the bar, which looks the part completely. Elegant, well stocked, the kind of bar that makes you feel like you should be wearing something nicer than what you showed up in. I ordered an old fashioned, at which point the gentleman behind the bar admitted, with full transparency, that he was not actually the bartender and would need to Google how to make it. I genuinely appreciated the honesty. In a galaxy full of people who would have just guessed and handed me something terrible, this man chose truth. I thanked him, switched my order to whiskey and coke, and we moved on as allies. From there we headed to concessions and ordered the Take it to the Greek wrap, the La Bamba pizza, and fries with little bits of steak on top. The food was good. Not life altering, not the kind of meal that makes you grab someone's arm and say nothing, just nodding, but genuinely solid movie theater food that arrived at our seats without us having to do anything except recline and wait. The seats reclined. There were actual tables. This is civilized. We watched Disclosure Day, which if you have any interest in extraterrestrial or UFO subject matter is absolutely worth your time. Sitting in a reclining leather seat watching a film about potential contact with beings from other worlds felt appropriately cinematic, even if the leather on most seats has seen better days. Chipping and worn in spots, which is the one visible crack in an otherwise well maintained experience. The theater itself was clean, the concept is fantastic, and the overall vibe delivered exactly what a day date calls for. Four stars. The bar needs an actual bartender on deck and the seats could use some attention, but Living Room Theater is still one of the better ways to spend an afternoon in Indianapolis.

Every attention to detail was seen in the costumes, the set was awesome, the actors were flawless with beautiful voices, and a wonderful live orchestra provided the music. Good news travels fast - every show was a sellout. The venue seating is nicely tiered so there is not a bad seat in the house. Very reasonable priced refreshments are available for purchase and there is plenty of parking. Keep an eye out for the entrance sign, it's tricky to spot. I have been here 50 times over the years for various shows, including some plays that my granddaughters have been in, and have volunteered to usher. The local talent is always top notch. Buck Creek Players is a not-for-profit organization, run by volunteers, and they are are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.Buckcreekplayers.com accepts donations online, offer internship programs and memberships, and have an exciting new season coming up!

I went to see Little Women musical and the cast did a wonderful job. Even though I have seen the story many times I was still drawn in to the story. The actors played their parts well and left me laughing several times. I followed my GPS to take me there and once I got off the interstate I noticed a few small signs to direct me further. Make sure you pay attention to where the turn is into the Theater. There is a sign, but my GPS did want to take me a tad further on the road. The building sits alone and just looks like a warehouse. There was plenty of parking and no traffic to get there. The surroundings inside were comfortable as well. They do have a small selection of snacks if you want some thing to munch on during the performance. The seats were comfortable and they offered one intermission. The cost of the performance was $20 which was very reasonable. You can purchase your ticket online and show them your ticket electronically. When I arrived at the ticket counter they were very organized and I just had to give them my name. This was their 48th season in production and it appears like they perform Six shows in the season. I will definitely be bookmarking this place to go back for the next season

That was the most painful 45 minutes I have sat through in theater . Ever. And we are a fan of live theater. At one point I leaned over and told my husband " this looks like the"play" out elementary kids would come up with and we would sit through years ago. Very sad because it was our first play to check out with the Festival and we thought next year we might do a pass for multiple shows. Not sure about that now if they just let anyone sing and ramble through an incoherant mess that no one was clapping or engaged with :(

They've got a small but mighty space just off Mass Ave near the north end. I easily find parking on the north end more towards Bottleworks. In addition to an intimate theater setting, they've got a nice outdoor gathering space that was the perfect venue for our outdoor Yelp event. Oh, and they put on Fringe Fest every year with hundreds of shows within a two week time frame. Support your local arts and performing arts!

For a wheelchair user, I seem to have a weird fascination with everything in the world that's not…read moreparticularly accessible. Case in point? The Irvington Lodge. I love this building. I would never really recommend the building for wheelchair users, though I've managed to get around it fairly well. The building began development in 1921 and was completed in 1922. Like many Masonic Lodges, the ground floor was intentionally designed to allow for retail spaces as this would help support the Lodge. If you're familiar with the Irvington Lodge, then you know that it bears on it the rather ominous "Lodge #666" marking. It seems fitting to have this be in a neighborhood recognized for its many haunted locations, but there's no denying it even creeps me out a bit. The building was rumored to be the host of Ku Klux Klan meetings in the 1920s - KKK Grand Dragon D.C. Stephenson lived only a few blocks away in a mansion on University Avenue. Until 1950, the Lodge also hosted the Irvington Post Office. The Irvington Lodge continues to be an actively utilized building. Retail spaces are taken by Irvington Vinyl & Books, Hampton Designs Studio & Shop, and LVLUP Gaming Lounge. Additionally, Mosaic Church uses the Lodge's entire 3rd floor. Accessibility is most challenging in the 1st floor retail spots, though I noticed during my recent visit that Irvington Vinyl & Books had installed a bit of a ramp trying to help the situation. It's certainly not ADA, though it is an improvement. You can get into the first floor of the lodge. There is an elevator to the 2nd and 3rd floors. The 2nd floor includes a theatre room, reception room, a fully functioning kitchen, and a buffet area. You can rent these facilities and the rates are pretty market friendly. The Theatre Room has over 2300 square feet and many period touches still in place. It's rather stunning. The Reception Room is right about 1400 square feet. The 3rd floor has a couple of large main rooms. Hardwood floors are in place throughout and there's a stunning balcony that would be great for a wedding (unless you're in a wheelchair - then it would suck). This is one of those buildings I can't help but love. I'd give almost anything to have an office here, though it would inherently be a not particularly wheelchair friendly one. You also have close proximity to the Irving and nearby Irvington area businesses. Renting the facilities requires the usual liability insurance in place and a deposit, though rates are pretty friendly. They don't have preferred vendors - so, it offers flexibility that some venues don't. The Irvington Lodge was acquired, I believe, around late 2017-2018 by longtime Eastside resident Yasha Persson and a team. Given the pandemic was right around the corner, it was a challenging time to acquire such a beautiful building. However, here's hoping it continues to be such a beautiful, vibrant part of Irvington.

The Body Guard…read more The story line is similar to the movie with Whitney Houston, where Kevin Costner was the body guard I will start out by telling you it was a simply fabulous presentation. The lead role was Jasmine Elliott. She sang ever Houston song as well as Whitney did The second lead was Anjelsh Evans who also sang beautifully The cast was full of talented and well choreographed dancers. Beautiful costumes and a handsome lead man. This play had it all Back drops were rear projection and felt very real Overall well worth seeing! The Executive Producer is Trina Dingle, a very special lady who has been building this theatre group for over 20 years. She even calls and sends an email with ticket information. We had tickets then friends wanted to join. Even though it was a sell out crowd, she worked our friends in so they could join us. Trina explained that this theater is a diverse entertaining arts program. Knowing that black entertainers are not always cast in lead roles, this theatre showcases their talent The theatre is in the Athenaeum. The Atheneum is a collaborative sponsor We were seated at cocktail tables on the main floor. Tickets are less expensive if you sit at an area other than the main floor The tickets are extremely reasonable compared to other venues. We were treated by the staff with the upmost respect and Trina came out to meet us. I did not know Trina before, we only talked on the phone. She was so special I am glad I got to meet here. Few more performances left. It was a wonderful performance and we are all glad we had the opportunity to enjoy the play and learn about this jewel of a theatre.

It was such an amazing experience and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra played a phenomenal performance. Jack Everly is so engaging and cheerful! We got dressed up to the nine and it just felt so right in such a historic and beautiful theater. We enjoyed the concept of the themed-drinks and the atmosphere inside. Would definitely return!

My husband was gifted tickets to see David Byrne tonight, and we had a really nice experience at…read morethe venue. The tickets were left at will call, and thankfully parking was easy since we were able to park onsite in the lot, which was super convenient because we were running late. By the time we arrived, will call was closed, but after going through the metal detectors, one of the employees kindly helped us retrieve our tickets, which we appreciated. The staff throughout the venue were helpful and friendly. It was dark by the time we got inside, so we asked a few workers standing nearby to help us locate our seats and they pointed us in the right direction right away. Our seats were in the orchestra section and everything was clearly labeled with signs. We had pretty decent seats with a good view, and we were on the end of the row which I appreciated. The stage setup was nice with great lighting, graphics, and sound quality. The seats themselves were comfortable, although most people were standing during the performance, so sitting down didn't really give much of a view anyway. The bars and merch area were located outside of the actual concert seating area. Restrooms were downstairs and easy to locate. We skipped drinks this time since we already planned to grab cocktails after the concert. This was a decent concert experience and venue.

The small intimate theater is comfortable regarding the old time ambiance/atmosphere along with the interior decor being perfectly warm and magical. You feel like you went into a portal into another time from many many years ago. The acoustics are wonderful which brings the whole experience to complete fruition. The Egyptian room is not my preferred area to see a concert, but other than that, it's a great place to hear your fave band. .
