Shelley sure dominates the Bernal home market and he's been around a long time and knows the neighborhood well. But you should be clear that the only thing he cares about is money, and he has no commitment to integrity or to the people he's supposed to represent during real estate transactions. We were first time homebuyers and later realized that Shelley used his "expertise" to push us forward instead of paying attention to the terms and missed some pretty crucial details along the way. He was very present up until the point when our deposit became non refundable, and thereafter made himself scarce for the rest of the escrow period, including the home inspection and some other important parts of the process. Not a nice guy and very shady to interact with. We looked for homes and had the misfortune to cross paths with his listings 3 times (he really dominates the Bernal Heights district). He won't give straightforward answers, won't remember you when he sees you again the next day, and has unreasonable expectations (he told us we should shop and bid for TICs with our friends if we wanted to get the property). When we wanted to bid on a house he listed he would not answer the most basic question about whether previous evicted tenants were "protected tenants" and told us to go look it up with the city when he knew there was no time for that before the deadline. Considering that protected tenant status on a TIC very much affects the price of the property (because you can't convert to condo), it's hard to believe such an experienced agent would not know the answer. He did, he just didn't want us to know. Stay clear. read more

Shelley was our landlord of a condo rental unit in SoMa. I was extremely disappointed with the experience, and I recommend that you rent or buy from someone else. Here are the issues we encountered: -The window of one of the bedrooms was broken, so that it would not close all the way. As the landlord, he should make it a priority to fix this. Instead, we needed to address it ourselves and it took several months. At the end of it, it still wasn't fixed. I considered going to court to get compensation for this negligence, but I decided it was not worth the inconvenience. -When we moved in, the lights installed in the bathroom exceeded the allowable voltage. As a result, the lights burned out and broke the fixtures in front of it. I think that's fine, those things happen, but he blamed us for that and asked to be compensated, even though it was his fault. -I think he overcharged after we moved out for the cleaning costs. According to my real estate broker, paint costs are not included as part of wear and tear, but of course Shelley charged for that. I do not know of his experience as a real estate broker, but as a landlord I do not recommend him. read more
