It only costs $3 to replace a card, but I only had a $50 bill--which they wouldn't accept. I also had a credit card, but they don't take that either. Before going in, I almost ordered the replacement online. As I was leaving, I turned around to ask if I could just do that. I said, "I guess I could order it online today and pay with my credit card, since I can't use cash." She looked at me like I was stupid and spoke to me like I was a complete idiot: "You cannot replace a lost card online." I was stunned--not just by what she said, but by the way she said it. I felt completely disrespected. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm smarter than she is. I'm beyond upset right now, and I feel like I need to speak to her supervisor. The way she treated me ruined my whole day. It seems that the receptionist may not be enjoying her role and appears unhappy, which could impact the atmosphere for visitors and staff. It might be worth checking in with her to see if she's doing okay or if another position might be a better fit for her skills and well-being. For now, I think she needs to go home! Bye!

I have been coming to this for years, and each time I go I am never greeted and am always nervous to ask for assistance. Overall, the library itself is great, but if you're looking for a friendly and welcoming staff this is not the place!

Only problem is the parking lot is on the other side of the street and the traffic is so bad on Hillside Avenue. Cars drive very fast on Hillside Avenue and I feel scared even when standing there to wait for the traffic light.

I came to this library for the first time for toddler open play and I thought it was great! It took…read moreplace on the 2nd floor and the area is next to a bunch of windows so you can see outside facing the library parking lot and street. A lot of natural light comes in and it's a big space for open play with a ton of toy options and a table just for coloring. The one negative is once open play is over (about an hour), they put away all the toys. I've been to other libraries where they leave the toys out for the children to play with as long as the library is open. The parking lot is very big and there were plenty of spots when I went, which was a weekday at 4:30pm. I liked how the open play was in the middle of the day as early times don't work for my family's schedule.

It's a huge branch, 2 floors building. There is a security guard by the entrance. There are special playroom for children, activity room for teens and a meeting room for adults . I have seen posted programs and activities for each level. I maybe a frequent guest here, an hour stay to browse or read is a plan. Will check again later.

They helped me obtain vital information that's pertinent to a research project I am currently working on. The reference me to NY main library. The information cost about $4000 to obtain. I received a good portion of the information free by going through the channels at the library. I've been trying to gather this information on my own for over over 6 months. In around May, the library provided curbside pick up / walk in pick up services so that we were able to reserve books online to continue my son's reading throughout this difficult time. The staffs also worked so hard to keep the children's programs running through Zoom during summer. My younger kids enjoy the crafts / story time with Mrs. Gregory, music and movement program and making 3-D animals a lot. My oldest one participated in the summer reading program as well as a few Game Nights/Trivia and Family Bingo. I would say that we have spent more time together as a family to participate in various programs with the library this year than before.

I was having a hard time finding a book by James Fell, a fairly well known author. I asked her where I could find his books and instead of simply looking this up I got a nasty face, and a disdainful "I don't know who that is. Are you sure that's the right name?" Not her words...her tone and demeanor. SMH. Another employee, right nearby, assisted me, found the book in seconds and was on his way. No...I didn't buy it. Principle. I passed her again later and got another dirty look....really? Another issue entirely...is there a good reason that there are novels...many novels.... in the religion section? Inquiring minds would like to know. I hadn't been in this store in quite some time...won't return any time soon. Changed and not for the better. FTR...everyone else that I spoke to in the store, aside from the rude manager, was quite pleasant, friendly, and helpful. Wow, B & N...Amazon is eating you. Do better.

I was so comfortable in the environment. Printing was easy. Glad I visited it. Kept passing it going to and from class to one day I just said let me go and utilize the time. If you like solitude but you want to eat, go to the third floor towards the windows. 3. If you need to take a nap go to the 2nd floor (quiet floor). 4. Never put a $10 or more into the copy machine ( witnessed a $50 bill disappearing into the toll and the student still seeing $0.00). 5. Not able to afford to copy your textbooks? Take pictures and transfer it to your computer or iPad (professor friendly). 6. The third floor by the boys bathroom there are outlets connected to the table, it's the perfect place to charge your electronics. 7. Always email your documents prior to printing. Never rely on just a USB portable (Microsoft 2010). 8. During the summer they do ID checks. 9. Never, NEVER, leave your headphones home. Boisterous students will come and act barbaric suddenly. Improvements: The bathrooms, and the staff. In my opinion, I think they need to hire more college students for the secretarial jobs. The women on the "Quick Print" side have such a distinct attitude, and sarcasm to the point I rather ask a dog for help. Also, they were always talking about their husbands, and love life. Hence, #9 the headphones. You're Welcome.

I currently have my youngest niece enrolled at Hofstra, who also had her HS graduation here, and my other niece had her college graduation held at Hofstra. I've been to the university several times, for graduation ceremonies, and to help cousins move into their dorms and moving out. The school is very easy to navigate. There's clear signs all throughout, and the parking lots of heavenly lit at night. There's always onsite security cruising around, which is a plus and gives that extra layer of protection that you, and your family who are attending are safe. The events, and student get togethers that I so often hear about are all planned by the student council, and they always seem well organized and though out, and fun might I add! You can always find something going on at the campus, planned and hosted by the students themselves. Emily, loves it here. She's forever ranting and raving about the events, meetings, after school events, bake sales, culture nights etc. All of which she helps to plan as she's the head of the student council. If you're a parent thinking to send your child here to further their education, no need to think twice. It's a great private school. The beautiful and historic Dutch estate has been ranked as a top schools in the US for many years in a row. You and your child will love and appreciate the history Hofstra has.
