If you want a Regal Boat, go to Sandy Hook Yacht Sales. From day one, Sheltered Cove Marina, in my opinion has acted worse than any used car dealer with whom I have dealt. Run, don't walk from this place. I placed an order for a new boat at the Edison Boat Show. The boat I was interested in was discounted for the show. No MSRP was listed on the boat, as was done by the other dealers. Mark Hattman told me that the MSRP was $80,000 above the discounted price. When I got home and did my own calculations, I realized that Mark had lied to me. He no doubt did this, so that when I saw other boats, I would think I was getting a great deal. After arguing for 5 days, I finally was refunded my deposit. But I really wanted the Regal. So, I placed an order for an incoming boat. Again, I should have walked away when I saw the rider to the contract. The boat was finished and left the factory the same day. It arrived at Sheltered Cove Marina the next day. I received a text from Mark, that the boat had arrived, but that they would not prep the boat until payment was made in full. Full payment was made the following day via wire transfer. I also received texts from the salesperson asking me when I wanted to come in for him to show and explain the boat to me. I was scheduling with him for the following weekend or the second weekend. That is when I received a text from another employee, telling me the boat would not be ready for five weeks after full payment was made, which by this time was two weeks ago. This was after Memorial Day weekend. Since they had my money, there was no rush for them to get my boat in the water. Their pre-delivery inspection missed that the flag pole was missing and that the ski tow pylon was missing. First they tried to claim that they were in storage on the boat. Then they realized that they had not been included, and I finally received them from Regal. They expect me to install both items, something that they should have done. The table base, for my Magma grill, was in the contract. They placed a generic piece without a pedestal to connect my grill, improperly using pan head screws instead of oval head screws which is what was called for. I argued with Mark Hattman and finally he would get the $149 piece if I brought the boat back for servicing at the end of the season. I would never use them again. Plus, what was I do for this season? Upon receiving the boat, I found the Bimini top had been ripped. They would not have told me in my opinion, if I had not found it. They did in fact give me a new Bimini, which I had to place myself. What service? Lastly, Mark Hattman promised me in writing that I would get the extended warranty included. I had it in writing. He forgot to send in the paper work, so I ended up with the basic warranty. In my opinion, the people at Sheltered Cove, especially Mark Hattman, just wanted my money, baited me into making full payment to get my boat, and then ghosted me. Been a customer for two years spending over 5 k in slip rentals plus . Now his year I asked for a temporary trailer storage of 2 weeks when in between homes and they advised me it would be $300 for the two weeks as they don't offer a prorated fee. I understand they run a business but raking loyal customers over the coals is unacceptable . They nickel and dime everyone and I will be looking for another marina !! read more

I recently had a boat accident which I needed extensive repair. I went to their facility and asked if they could do a insurance claim estimate and repair if possible. they assured me they could. I had my boat towed to there dock and two nice gentlemen pulled the boat on to the trailer. It took aproximantly 25 minutes. the boat sat in their yard for a week. went to meet adjuster at there facility and was told they would not do the estimate. I also got a bill for $266.00 for 25 minutes of work. not including $20 tip I gave the two men that put the boat on to the trailer. if you pay a boat mechanic $150 @ hour.where is the logic. I would not recomend unless you have a open wallet. read more

This company took me for $1,500 last year for installation of a new fuel pump on my 07' jet ski. This year, the same jet ski wouldn't start so I brought it to them early in April. After 2 weeks of it sitting there, they told me to fill out a work order. I promptly sent it over and a week before Memorial day, after my repeated calling, they inform me that my fuel pump was bad, the engine was shot and it would need a few thousand to remediate. AFTER TWO MONTHS OF WAITING! I brought the waverunner to a place in Lacey and they fixed it for under $300.00!!! I had to pay Sheltered Cove $250.00 for their diagnosis. This place is expensive, slow and too many people there who have no idea who you are...no matter how many times I call. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. read more

DON'T BUY A BOAT HERE!!! We went to look at a '99 24ft green & white Four Winns listed at $12.900. (Which is still listed) We sat with the salesman, Jack for about 1 1/2 hrs. and signed an agreement of sale for the the price of $10,400. This agreement also included repairs necessary to the engine. Within 72 hours, we received FOUR calls from Jack and the owner, Mark saying they would NOT honor the agreed upon price that we already signed for!!! First it was yes, you have the boat, then no, you don't then yes. Enough already!!! How could you do business with a place like this that will not honor a contract. You can't and you shouldn't. We told them they could keep their boat and we wouldn't buy an oar from them let alone a boat. read more

im back again just dropped boat off for water pump thermostat and few electrical upgrades . once again staff is on top of its game and the friendly atmosphere that is felt throughout the marina comes from all fellow slip holders as well as the staff. last year not only was staff outstanding but mutiple boaters at dock were more than helpful. i visited at least 6 marinas last year before choosing scm it was the only thing i did right . read more

DO NOT BUY A BOAT FROM SHELTERED COVE MARINA! We bought a new Bennington pontoon from these people at the 2015 Boat Show in Oaks, PA. The problems we have had since they delivered the boat (with a damaged rub rail) are numerous. Before purchasing the boat, we told them we would need it delivered to upstate New York. They said "no problem, we do that all the time". When the boat arrived damaged, they blamed it on the commute, rough roads, etc. The person who actually delivered the boat (Justin Belz) went to great lengths to hide the damaged section from our view. Google that name for insight into his character... Problems with NEW boat: 1. Fuel gauge did not work (we ran out of gas and were stranded in a shipping channel with several people on board) 2. Propeller was very loose. Spacer rattled and had to be repaired at the local Bennington dealership. 3. Thru-hull boots were not tie-wrapped, causing water to flow out onto the deck from under the helm and rear lounge seats 4. GPS in-dash frame bezel was coming off. Two studs were broken off of the bezel. 5. Stereo speakers on the helm and rear seat behind helm do not work. 6. Stereo appears to be stuck in demo mode. 7. Several seat cover snaps were broken. The most significant issue was that they delivered the boat with the wrong prop on the motor! Yamaha publishes a Performance Bulletin clearly stating the recommendations for the combination of boat, motor and prop required. Sheltered Cove failed to meet this basic standard for our boat. After much back and forth with Mark Hattman, he consistently refused to accept any responsibility for these issues. We honestly feel he knew exactly what the issues were, but was never honest about any of them. It was Bennington that came through to honor all obligations, including sending us the correct prop which has greatly improved the boat performance. Mark Hattman is either completely ignorant to proper boat protocols OR he is the most dishonest businessman with whom we've ever dealt. He even misrepresented the financing terms prior to the sale, indicating that we could pay off the boat early with no penalty. We realized that was not the case when reading the fine print during signing. We should have walked away at that point. Definitely buy a Bennington, as their customer service is outstanding. Upon leaving there employee they have refused to give me my pay unless I return used work t shirts . I live hour away Mark Hattman said we dont mail paychecks an let me know day before your comming bring used work t shirt. Lodge complaint wage an hour. Still refuses to mail check said I have to wait 2 more weeks . This Guy is amazing he flagrantly breaks law governing paying employees over t shirts how petty . read more

Mark, You were paid for your services, even though there was no launch of the boat or sea trail performed. Also why would I buy a damaged boat? Also tell how you and your sale person marketed the boat again. Then the seller asked if the broker Jack or the seller had any knowledge of the motor having an issue with the mid exhaust corrosion. Jack's response was NO he nor did the seller have any knowledge. A blatant lie since you scoped it for me and emailed an estimate to myself and the seller. Fortunately for the 2nd buyer it's a small world and I got word out that this motor had issues and the buyer beware because your business, employees, and practices are NOT on the up and up. Also during my purchase I would have liked my own five star certified Yamaha mechanic check the motor out you nor would the seller approve this. You wanted to keep all the work in house than charged double of your two nearest competitors. Than double the price of what the corrosion issue costs saying in the estimate it could costs more if there was an issue with corrosion and bolts. I recently bought a used boat and trailer in Mystic Island that needed a new outboard. Joey Cannon, service manager, immediately picked up the boat and trailer from the seller's home without prior notice. In short order, Joey and techs had inspected the trailer and prepared a reasonable estimate for repairs. Mark Hartman also prepared an estimate for the outboard, listened to the history of what I knew about the situation, and offered intelligent, useful recommendations about what work should be done. I found every employee that I dealt with to be very knowledgeable about my Venture trailer, Yamaha outboard rigging, Garmin Chart/Sonar, and May-craft boat. The staff made great recommendations, told me where to save my money, and the fit and finish of the installations was great. The prices were competitive, the work was outstanding, and they use the best products in the industry. The facilities are also very nice. Through SCM I also had the boat detailed. Responsible and enjoyable boating comes at a price, which is never inexpensive. Very rarely, do I actually feel like I got my money's worth, but I left SCM satisfied that I did get my money's worth or more. After a bit, I learned to allow the staff to make recommendations and trust them, they really know the industry, what needs to be done and what doesn't, and how to run a business. Mark, Joey, Tony, Ken, Helena, Jack, and Palmer treated me with honesty, respect, professionalism and courtesy. I really enjoyed and valued the work that SCM completed and I will return for work in the future. Work done included trailer brake system replacement, trailer fender replacement, repower with Yamaha outboard, prop and tach, ICOM VHF radio installation with Shakespeare antenna, Deka second battery with Perko battery switch installation, Perko gas tank vent replacement, Ritchie Explorer compass mounted at center console helm, bottom painted, complete exterior detail, compound and wax hull inside and out, all lockers cleaned, all metal polished, all Isinglass cleaned. They work was completed per the estimates and within a reasonable amount of time. When I went to pick up the boat, I brought my wife, 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son with me. Palmer took the time to go through the Yamaha outboard with us, outline in detail the break in procedures, and explain operations and safety of the engine, boat, new VHF, new battery system, etc. When my wife asked questions, Palmer was courteous, respectful, and extremely clear in his explanations to her. I'm telling you, my family had a great boating experience because I went to Sheltered Cove Marina. I am glad that I used SCM and I am highly satisfied with their work. read more

My boyfriend paid to shelter his boat there - it was damaged in Superstorm Sandy - he had to pay for the repairs (even though you know they got insurance money for the damaged boats). And then we go to pick up this spring and pay off what we owe.....well guess what. They SOLD the boat!!!!!! WITHOUT the title!!!!! HOW CAN THEY DO THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He had paid over 4k for repairs and storage and they sell it???!!! By far the worst morals of an actual business i have ever dealt with my entire life!! These people should be ashamed!! read more

Summer 2016,I bought a used Parker 2520 from Sheltered Cove Marina. I had driven from Maryland and put a 20% deposit on this boat. One day later, Jack called me and told me there was a corrosion issue in the exhaust jacket of the 2002 Yamaha, but they did tell me the previous owner will pay for the repairs so I was pretty happy. I also let them know that I was willing to pay for any other issues they came across and just wanted a dependable boat to take family out on the Chesapeake bay. I emailed Helene Hattman to ask if they would keep me in the loop regarding repairs made to the vessel . Jack also informed me that the old fuel was going to be tested and disposed of if bad . About a month went by and I finally took delivery. I was happy to get her brought boat home to Baltimore and put it in the water. Started up fine, left ramp and boat would not get on plane. I called them from the water and was told they tested gas and sea trialed. It did not add up so I started working on boat found out it had 100 gallons of bad fuel that I had to get rid of myself, added new fuel lines and filters, plugs, wires, v s t cleaning , fuel injectors cleaned and now it's the end of November boat is running good no thanks to Sheltered cove marina. I have spent lots of time and money on something I asked Mike d'Andrea and his staff to provide my family and I a dependable boat. I also feel bad for the previous owner who spent over 5 k to make this boat right as I had exhaust jacket scooped and found out they did not put in the repair kit that Yamaha sells they put in pieces .I hope this post helps someone else like me think twice.I also read some interesting info.
