I stayed here for several nights during a business trip and overall was happy with the accommodations. As some others mention, the rooms could use a little TLC and updating; mine specifically smelled quite strongly of mold when I first turned on the AC, but it eventually went away/I got used to it. The staff is really accommodating and pleasant, so no issues there. Location wise, within walking distance down the hill to Water Street, George Street , and a quick cab ride up to Signal Hill (unless you are interested in a steep hike).

Beautiful but unprepared. We had reservations here as a group. We wanted to make sure to come check in and be ready to spend the night in town as we were here for one night only. we were tired and hungry at that point from flying to the location. all our group wanted was to have a room shower get some dinner and go ahead to rest To our surprise during our check in we all were told that an event earlier during the week had the guest use late check out and the rooms were not ready, they only had 5 rooms for 20 people. we waited over an hour to here they ended up giving us 2 rooms so we could at least change and go eat, NOW if you see that as a nice action on their part I would think again, everyone who came into the hotel besides us seemed to get rooms. Our group was the only on from the moment we came in that were in the lobby that had to sit around and wait for a room. Now, I see that if you have a large event things can get hectic but come on this is a huge chain of luxury hotels and it is unacceptable to not be ready for a reservation of whatever nature it is. even worse when you isolate the large group but keep giving rooms to all other guests that drive in the hotel, that means that our rooms were being bumped..... They tried to give us a complementary breakfast voucher (as they charge for their breakfast) to try to amend for their lack of hospitality to our group. however in the morning when we went for breakfast, there is an line, they do not let you just come in serve yourself and keep on with your day. they control the line of individuals that come in and they are so messy that some of our group didn't have time to come in and eat because of the lines. the rooms are pretty and the views are good that is the only positive I could gather from this experience. everything else was a let down for me, even the parking is paid! They should take a serious look at themselves and get their things together, the experience I had in this hotel was disappointing and I would NEVER recommend this location, It was so upsetting to have to go through all of this for this hotel that is not even CLOSE to the downtown, you still have a 15 minute walk if you want to go to the downtown area. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY AT ALL.

My second time staying here at the Sheraton Newfoundland. I would declare this the nicest hotel in St John's (i've stayed at the HI on Portugal Cove Rd + Delta previously) and has some awesome harbour views (if you are lucky enough to get a harbour view). Alas my room was $179 but in the summer this hotel goes for roughly $300 a night. The lack of hotels in St John's and the high demand in the peak summer season makes for a precarious situation for travellers. If you book late you will either pay the top end of premium for rates or may be forced to stay in something below your comfort levels. The room is your typical Sheraton comforts. Wonderful bed with lots of pillows and very very comfortable. Room size is decently generous and I appreciate that the washroom isn't your usual "open the door" hit the toilet small! The hotel is well located for all the shops and restaurants just a short brisk 10 minute walk away from all the action on Water Street of the shops and restaurants. Just be prepared as it's a good walk uphill on the way back. Good exercise after eating a good meal! Service from the front desk was courteous and pleasant. Overall a very good experience. Some parts of the hotel could use some more refresh but it's close to up to Sheraton standards.

Ordered French onion soup and salt cod croquettes for room service. Both were amazing! So good!!

I stay in many hotels. There are some small things that make a big difference to me. Friendly staff: They've got em. Good 'ole Newfoundland hospitality. Comfy bed and pillows: Yessssss! I get an amazing sleep here. Fridge AND microwave in room: Check and check. It's always a nice bonus to get a microwave in the room. The fridges here are huge! Deluxe size. Location: Love it. Smack dab between downtown and Signal Hill. You can walk downtown easily in 10mins. And the start of the walk up Signal Hill is just 1 block from the hotel. Bonus: The VIEWS! If you get a city view, it's really pretty and nice with all the St. John's charming row houses. But if you get a harbour view... WOW, you can't beat it. I usually stay on the top floor and I wish i could look out on a view like that all the time. Also, one gloomy day ordered room service instead of venturing out for dinner. I got the salt cod croquettes and a bowl of french onion soup. Both were delicious and hit the spot perfectly. I'd order again for sure. Only one con to this hotel would be the water pressure. Although the bathrooms are really nicely renovated with beautiful fixtures, and they also have nice toiletries, the water pressure is definitely lacking. It's a bit of a bummer, but not a deal breaker at all. A great place to stay in St. John's!

Up the hill and across Water Street is the Crow's Nest, and down the hill is the waterfront/harbour. Fantastic location You'd be impressed as soon as you walk in, the view of the harbour entrance is great. There is a self-serve coffee/tea/water station, an optional cash shop for their Alt Hotel brand of shampoo/gel/lotion, a complimentary office workstation with printer, plus an assortment of sofas, lounge chairs and bar chairs. The main floor also has a suite of reconfigurable conference rooms and smaller meeting rooms The rooms are amazing! All the apparatus in the rooms are touchscreen activated. Don't be alarmed that the curtains seem worryingly see-through, just go to the touchscreen controls and lower the blinds. Stand-alone shower, nil bathtubs. There's an ironing board and iron. You get a Keurig with 4x kcups (1x tea, 1x decaf, 2x regular coffee) The double-sized bed is comfy with four enormous pillows. There's an ice machine on the third floor only The continental breakfast is a cold breakfast.... when I was there 17-21 Jul 18, they had an assortment of pastries, apples, bananas, cheerios and raisin brans, plus the usual coffee/decaf/tea/milk/orange juice. If you want anything hot (even if it's just toast), you'll want to head out for a hot breakfast Last but not least, the hotel staff are awesome. Would definitely choose to stay here again!

I was dealing with over a 4 hr time difference), I woke to someone banging hard on my door, asking me about my check-out, being very clear I had to go downstairs to settle things right away. Turns out, they had not linked my extra days either side of my reservation. A few days later, even though I had told them about the day at the end, when settling the extra day at the beginning, I had to repeat the process as they had not linked the extra day at the end. I also had to pay the $750 refundable deposit three times. I questioned that as takes a while for the credit card company to remove each deposit. (That, in addition to 5 days' hotel costs, meant my card was declined when I tried to buy the least expensive snack on the long flight home.) I was told I would have a microwave so had bought food to heat. There was no microwave. I did eat at their restaurant on two occassions. The food and the service were absolutely stellar as was the atmosphere. So, a mixed review. I would recommend the restaurant without hesitation but for the hotel, if doing anything non-standard with your reservation, you might want to stay elsewhere. The people on the desk were lovely but they said it was the Doubletree system that would not allow for the changes and that demanded the $750 deposit three times.

Front Desk staff did not always fully reflect the open and friendly Newfoundlanders we met during this trip. 2. During our 1st stay, there's not much to see out the window on the "Town view side of the Hotel. PROS 1. Nice location near Downtown St. John's and an easy drive to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill, the Rooms, and the Airport. And a cool street name address: Hill O' Chips. 2. Clean, roomy, and comfortable rooms, with a nice sitting area, good WiFi, a nice hot shower and on our second stay, a great view of the Harbour. 3. Plentiful free parking (surface and structure) for Hilton Diamond members. 4. Onsite Laundry Room (important for long trips) at a reasonable $2 Wash/$2 Dry, and $1 Detergent. 5. Very good Hotel restaurant (The Little Sparo) complete with a very welcoming Bar. Gayle and I had 3 breakfasts, 1 Dinner, and a few turns at the Bar during our stay here. Restaurant staff were professional and often charming. Their food was really good too. 6. Great Bar conversations with interesting people. My favorite was sitting with Gayle and discussing wanting to go to Nunavut as the last Canadian Territory or Province I haven't visited. The couple next us leans over and says "We're from Nunavut!" of which a wide ranging conversation ensued.
