Coughing from excessive chlorine in the pool. Worst of it was stepping in feces on the bottom of the pool. Yes, sh*t in the pool! Took management 2 days after check out to call me back regarding my complaint. Manager was reluctant to give any compensation as complaint was made in the morning verses 10pm at night when the pool closed. I'm a Gold Level member of Marriott. This is the worst treatment I've ever had at a Marriott property in 20+ years of stays. Don't stay at this hotel!

Check-in was easy through their app - I was able to check in before I even got to the hotel, so all I had to do was stop by the front desk and pick up my keys. The woman working the front desk that day - Sherry-Lynn - was amazing and one of the friendliest people I have ever met. She made a point of asking how my day had gone whenever I returned to the hotel after a day out in the city. Such a sweetheart! The room was clean and spacious, and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. I made a couple of requests for the room through their app - extra pillows, that kind of thing - and they were followed to a T. I would recommend the Fairfield to anyone, and I will definitely be staying there again when I find myself planning another trip to the city!

I was booked in here for a conference by the organizing group. I paid for an extra day each end of…read moremy conference stay. The first morning (to me. It was noon there. I was dealing with over a 4 hr time difference), I woke to someone banging hard on my door, asking me about my check-out, being very clear I had to go downstairs to settle things right away. Turns out, they had not linked my extra days either side of my reservation. A few days later, even though I had told them about the day at the end, when settling the extra day at the beginning, I had to repeat the process as they had not linked the extra day at the end. I also had to pay the $750 refundable deposit three times. I questioned that as takes a while for the credit card company to remove each deposit. (That, in addition to 5 days' hotel costs, meant my card was declined when I tried to buy the least expensive snack on the long flight home.) I was told I would have a microwave so had bought food to heat. There was no microwave. I did eat at their restaurant on two occassions. The food and the service were absolutely stellar as was the atmosphere. So, a mixed review. I would recommend the restaurant without hesitation but for the hotel, if doing anything non-standard with your reservation, you might want to stay elsewhere. The people on the desk were lovely but they said it was the Doubletree system that would not allow for the changes and that demanded the $750 deposit three times.

Front Desk staff did not always fully reflect the open and friendly Newfoundlanders we met during this trip. 2. During our 1st stay, there's not much to see out the window on the "Town view side of the Hotel. PROS 1. Nice location near Downtown St. John's and an easy drive to Quidi Vidi, Signal Hill, the Rooms, and the Airport. And a cool street name address: Hill O' Chips. 2. Clean, roomy, and comfortable rooms, with a nice sitting area, good WiFi, a nice hot shower and on our second stay, a great view of the Harbour. 3. Plentiful free parking (surface and structure) for Hilton Diamond members. 4. Onsite Laundry Room (important for long trips) at a reasonable $2 Wash/$2 Dry, and $1 Detergent. 5. Very good Hotel restaurant (The Little Sparo) complete with a very welcoming Bar. Gayle and I had 3 breakfasts, 1 Dinner, and a few turns at the Bar during our stay here. Restaurant staff were professional and often charming. Their food was really good too. 6. Great Bar conversations with interesting people. My favorite was sitting with Gayle and discussing wanting to go to Nunavut as the last Canadian Territory or Province I haven't visited. The couple next us leans over and says "We're from Nunavut!" of which a wide ranging conversation ensued.

The assistant manager (who I have now been told apparently was THE HEAD CHEF) unlocked the door, invading privacy. My girlfriend and myself (who I was planning on proposing too 24 hrs later) were assaulted and manhandled into the hallway without being able to retrieve our items. Multiple times I tried to get my family to retrieve our valuables, and each time they denied us access (even tho we rented it for 3 days) and came up with many excuses that I am not even bothering to list here. Long story short we will be filing a federal case against this establishment for assault against me and my girlfriend, the countless lies they used to try and cover their asses were the story changed every time they told it. STAY AWAY. JONATHON IS ABSOLUTELY USELESS AS A MANAGER AND SHOULD BE FIRED. HE ACTIVELY IGNORED AND AVOIDED US AND ONLY CONTACTED US DURING THE WEDDING HOURS WE SAID WE WOULDN'T BE AVAILABLE. When we tried to call him after the wedding he avoided us until We left. The entire team is completely incompetent and will not help you if you run into trouble with staff. The The police did what they can being so limited with staff, which makes it so much apparent that scams like this can run around and go unseen. We are in contact with corporate and real federal officers who can actually do something.

The pool is on the colder side because it's a saltwater pool but the room which the pool is in is very humid. The complimentary breakfast is amazing! Best breakfast from any hotel. They have a lot of different options like bagels,waffles,eggs,bacon,sausages,muffins, cereal,oatmeal and a variety of fresh fruits. Their scrambled eggs are a personal favourite. Overall I totally recommend this hotel :)

The staff are really friendly and super professional, made you feel welcome and at home. The hotel main areas and rooms were super clean was super clean and nicely modern style decor. There are so many places to eat, drink and shop right close by. Beautiful shops with with by Newfoundland atist and crafts folk. Plenty of opportunity to pickup up gifts and keepsakes. We stayed two night room #422 - looking along harbor into town and #424 - looking out to sea across the harbor. There is also a super food place to get breakfast and lovely areas inside and outside to sit and look at the harbor

My only major complaint was the gym (which is important to me when travelling). It was really sparse, and the equipment (two treadmills, an elliptical and a bike) was old. One of the two treadmills was broken, the other didn't provide an accurate belt speed. I ended up working out at Good Life nearby.

The room was clean spacious with comfortable chairs, abundant closet space, an in-room coffeemaker and microwave, and a king bed. The bed was little soft for my liking, but on it were a selection of soft and firm pillows (marked as such) to choose from. The bathroom itself was quite large. The large-nozzled shower head was high enough for me to stand under comfortably, and I'm 6'6". Bath products lathered nicely, unlike those at many hotels. There is some evidence of wear on the rug and furniture, but overall the room was in good condition. Even though it's on a fairly busy road, we never heard my traffic noise. In the lobby there is complimentary coffee in the morning, and fruit-infused ice water in the afternoon. Next door is a Horton's for a tasty, quick breakfast. Overall, a good value for what we paid.

Music throughout the hotel is perfect. Exile bar is beautifully executed and the bartenders are just what you want--attentive without being disruptive. Walking distance access to all the bars, music, and restaurants on George Street is icing on the cake.
