Calvin and Vivian, the owners, are friendly, gracious, and helpful. They offered many tips for the "locals in the know" tips for how to access trails, parks, and (of course) restaurants! Speaking of which: Mangiamo in Hill City has GREAT wood fired pizza, salads, and desserts. We went twice so did not have time to try their meatball Panino, pastas, or appetizers. Back to Restmore Inn...Very Clean! We stayed in a room with 2 double beds. It is small and efficient! Very cleverly designed to maximize the use of space. Full refrigerator and freezer, two burner hot plate, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, toaster and the expected dishes, flatware, and pots/pans. Hiking and biking the Mickelson Trail right out the door. No loading and unloading the bikes! Rental place across the street if you need to rent. It is a great family-owned place at a reasonable price. Enjoy!

The entire reservation, check in and check out process was very clear. Leslie was great with communication throughout the stay and all of the instructions were clear in emails leading up to our reservation. I stayed at the Buck Haven Cabin which had one bedroom and a loft with another bed. It was perfect for my parents and I but can sleep up to six. The cabin was fully furnished and had plenty of towels, pillows and extra blankets. The entire cabin was comfortable, well decorated and temperature controlled. There is a key to use although you are provided a code for the key pad which we found easiest to use. There is a porch and deck with a grill, picnic table and a firepit with chairs. Unfortunately we did not utilize these during out two night stay last week. Firewood and smore kits are available for purchase. There is a great binder provided that gives suggestions on restaurants and activities in the area and even provides a little history on the property and family that owns it. The cabin was only about 15 minutes from Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. In either direction you can find breweries, restaurants and other activities such as Bear Country, a candy store and off road vehicle rentals. We also visited Wall Drug and Badlands National Park which was approximately one hour away. The location was central which allowed us to visit a variety of spots. While in a great area, Freedom Ridge Cabins are not on a main road so there is plenty of privacy. They currently have four cabins but the property is well designed and you wouldn't even know you have neighbors unless you catch them outside. It is very quiet. Although we did not need additional items while we were there, the owners are on site and can provide what you need very quickly. I have nothing negative to say about my stay at Freedom Ridge Cabins. I highly recommend staying with them if visiting South Dakota. The price was reasonable and not much more than a stay in a regular, boring hotel room. This mountain lodge is situated off highway 16 in Hill City, SD. It's conveniently located within 10 miles from Mount Rushmore National Memorial. The Roost Resort has a genuinely nice physical setup -- well-maintained grounds and facilities. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by how the visitor fee was enforced. We drove 300+ miles each way to visit family staying at the resort. Saturday we paid the $10/car visitor fee without issue, though it came with a long lecture about costs, being a mom-and-pop operation, and "registered guests only" on the walk to the office. We left around 8:30pm, invited back for breakfast, and stayed overnight 40 miles away at another resort. We returned Sunday ~8:30am. By 9:30am the owner (Sheila) came back for a second fee. I asked if it worked like a motel checkout window since we'd be leaving soon. She charged the full fee anyway and repeated the same lecture -- for at least the 4th time. She mentioned being a 5-star resort; when I mentioned I'd leave a review, she took it as a threat. We were accused of using the shower house (false -- we'd showered elsewhere). When my cousin's husband mentioned being a disabled veteran, she accused him of "playing that card," described her own health condition, and threatened to call police. My cousin was told to vacate 2 days early, with 3 hours' notice. There's a difference between hospitality and running a hospitality business. A resort this nice deserves an owner who understands that difference.

They charged us a $30.00 late fee for checking out at 11:50. There was NO ONE THERE , That had to wait on us. It is a RV site. No one has to clean up.....What the heck! The dump station, takes some maneuvering to turn around in a small place. The view is great, but the lack of personal interaction is terrible. I would look for other parks, in the area. 1 out of 13 states is not bad for an average. You always have that one!!!!!

There's a dishwasher and washer and dryer and well the site gravel roads. It's easy to get around if you slow down just a tiny little bit there's also a very nice garage where you can step store your motorcycles or like making your camping stuff but it's nice to be able to put some of your stuff away and be safe although I doubt anybody would come back in the hills just in case it's nice it's there. There's ample room in the cabins plenty of living room plenty of seating I'm in a wheelchair and I was able to get around fine I think the doors are either 32 or 34 inches but I found if I was careful when I went through it was not a problem I'm an electric wheelchair jazzy HD. Also that the owner and his wife Beth went above and beyond to help me with my handicap Needs. Matt built a small ramp so I can get up into the porch. I would say this would be a perfect place to stay for either three couples or families with kids I would highly recommend that Beth and Robins Roost there about I think 12 miles from mt Rushmore and a little bit further to the Crazy Horse monument. Hill city is about 10 minutes away there was some fun things to do there nice places to eat all in all I would say that the vacation at Robins Roost is the best when you're going to have also they're not ADA but they can't accommodate some requests if you're handicapped and they're nice about it they don't have to put out when you need something special I go every weekend if I didn't live 1500 miles away

My wife and I booked this place based on the advertising that said we could ride horses, our daughter is a rider and quite passionate about them. Upon arrival, Laura was unsure of what days we'd be riding. Keep in mind we asked about all this beforehand. Now, the days were hot in July so we figured we'd be riding either early in the morning or later in the evening. Fine. But she gave us no plan. I finally went back up to the house to nail down a time. We agreed to a morning ride the following day. Great! Nope. She later texted saying she had forgotten her husband had some meeting and if we could reschedule for that evening at 6. Cool. Nope. Something happened to the horses and she had to cancel. Ok. I get that. But then, she had some all day thing the next day and thereby effectively killing all options for riding as we were leaving the day after. My wife proceeded to ask for a partial refund as this was not what was discussed or advertised. Nope again. Her excuse this time? We hadn't signed up or paid for that. Cmon. Bad business and advertising. There were also guests arriving who were trying to reach her and couldn't and were quite frustrated with the lack of communication. So, great place in terms of scenery. But be forewarned of what is said & advertised because we did not get what we paid for by any means. Duly noted. We won't be back.

There's no place to hang clothes and the dusty old antique dresser has tiny drawers, so plan to live out of your suitcase. It's a quick 5 minute drive to Hill City which has several good restaurants and a grocery store. The hosts live and work onsite, always around, and are very good with communicating.
