A teacher, Rory consistently singled me out in ways that felt unfair and humiliating. The leadership under the principal, Janice, only made things worse -- the administration fostered an environment that was punitive rather than supportive, and students like me were left feeling isolated and diminished. The impact of this experience has stayed with me long after, which says everything about the culture of this school. I would strongly warn families to reconsider before sending their children here.

We have been with Westbrook Montessori for 2 1/2 years, and it's been a wonderful experience for…read moreboth of our children. The school has a warm family feel, so our children adjusted very easily. The teachers are great, and work closely with the students to help them achieve their full potential. My daughter graduated from the Casa (senior kindergarten) program in June, reading at a grade 2 level and had been introduced to grade 3 mathematics concepts. In September, she entered into a grade one French immersion program. Because Westbrook also introduces the kids to French, it has been a very easy transition for her. She took with her the drive for learning, and has progressed to reading chapter books, and writing her own stories. My son, loves Westbrook and shows a very keen interest in school. At 3, he's already recognizing short words, and enjoys books and counting. His learning style is very different from his sister's, but the teachers work with him in a way that works for him. Because it's a family oriented school, the Principal there, is very open and fair with the students and parents. As a parent, there's nothing like sending your to school knowing that they are safe and happy. My husband and I have been extremely happy with Westbrook, and always recommend it to friends and family who are looking for a great school for their children.

After having my kids enrolled here for over 4 years, I seriously cannot say enough good things…read moreabout this school and the teachers. My daughter started attending when she was 2 (now 6) and my son began as a toddler at 18 months (now 4.5). The curriculum is expansive, including typical montessori activities/practical life skills (like washing dishes, tying shoelaces, folding clothing, polishing, potty training) but also very advanced academically. Through their guidance my daughter is reading at a grade 4 level and doing math at a grade 3 level as she enters grade 1. My son who is predisposed musically, can sing various beautiful songs in different languages, and has learned to write letters and read phonetically (entering JK). Most importantly, they absolutely Love going to school every day - they have been happy and felt safe there. We have had a few different teachers over the years as we progressed through stages, as well as a few constant (Ms. Eva - we love you!) and they have all been knowledgable, capable and exceptionally kind. They and the staff were always accessible and flexible when needed. And anytime I have gone to the school I witness kids who are happy, having fun and thoroughly engaged in their learning. The facilities themselves are located in the downtown core in an office-type building that initially seemed unusual for a school or daycare - but inside it is truly the sweetest little setup and the classrooms are clean, organized, well appointed and clearly taken care of. The outside area is small, but well utilized, and they also have an indoor playground which is useful for the winter months and bad weather. They've done a really great job with space in the downtown core, and you can really feel the sense of love and commitment to the kids there. Additionally - they include lunches served by ReakFoodForRealKids daily as well as snacks which offers incredible, healthy and diverse food. My kids, who can at times be picky at home, literally rave about the food - and they love that there are always healthy snacks available. Through BBMS we have additionally met a wonderful community of downtown families whose kids regularly meet and play outside of school hours. Our kids have fostered lasting and meaningful connections which continue to be a light in both our kid's and our lives. Every other parent I have ever talked to who actually attended Bluebutterfly also raves about their experience - and many have enrolled siblings after their first. Blue Butterfuly have truly been a rock for us through such integral phases of our children's lives, and in addition, during the pandemic - our family will forever be grateful to the staff and teachers here.

I have heard many stories of parents being disappointed in this "education", and quitting after 1-5…read moreclasses, the catch is, THEY DONT EVEN GET A REFUND, $450 for 2 classes, no refunds, its like they just want money. The teachers barely explain and seem like they just want to go home, no interaction with students whatsoever. It takes raising your hand for 10 minutes to just have your question answered. They go extremely quickly, and automatically assume that everyone has been in the program since Grade 1. It took my Grade 5 teacher about 4 months to know half the classes names, and they say that they are actual teachers that graduated. By going extremely quickly, the child does not learn the subject, leading to the parents taking time out of their day - or even work, just to teach their kids. To top it all off, all they care is about marks, I quote: "Learn this for a 10/10", "Learn this for a 20/20", not even "Learn this because you will use it later on and will help you". Seriously, this is a joke.

In my 4.5 years teaching at SMS, it is exciting to see the student's progress from the beginning of…read moregrade 9 until the end of grade 10. These grades I teach begin with general review concepts relating to algebra and geometry, then progress deep into secondary math topics. Students often find difficulty at first working with quadratics, converting the way they think about angles from degrees to radians, and gaining proficiency in trigonometry. By the final unit, it is incredible to see all these concepts seem second nature as we work with complex numbers in polar and exponential form. After students finish grade 10, it is always gratifying to see them return as assistant teachers for the younger grades, as well as students of grade 11 SMS studying calculus, as this solidifies their love for both math and the SMS program.
