Food was amazing!! Took our friends here for their first Ethiopian experience and they adored it. And not to mention the service was impeccable. 100% recommend.

I'm not usually into Ethiopian food as much as others but I saw the reviews and had to check it out. Tldr it was worth the visit. We got the veggie sampler which is already big points in my book. Sampler platters are such a great way to try a bit of everything and I wish more restraunts did it. We came in hungry and we couldn't finish the entire dish even with everything being pretty good. Each option was unique enough that they didn't blend together too much. The bread they give you felt fresh and tangy. The parts that were under the meals got soggy but that's the nature of the dish. I found myself wanting the vegetables to be a little less cooked and pickeled but that's probably not the way they do it in etheopia so I can't complain to much. Each was cooked well with a good amount of spices and the act of eating anything with bread makes it instantly better. They also started us out with a free starter of samosas with a slightly spicy and tangy sauce that paired well with it. Honestly it was my favorite part of the meal. The samosas we very fresh and had a great crispy bite. The lentals paired well with the sauce too. The service was super friendly and quick as well with her checking on us whenever we needed and giving great recommendations. The atmosphere was nothing special but also didn't take away from it either. The only other small thing was that when we asked for water, they only had bottles, which is a let down. Overall a good Ethiopian restraunt and if you like Ethiopian it is a great option.

I've always loved Ethiopian food, and thought I had found some great Ethiopian food in DC before, but this was simply next level. My new benchmark for freshness, craftsmanship and kind service. Worth the trip.

This was such an excellent experience!! I am only somewhat familiar with Ethiopian food. Enough to know what some things are called and have eaten it in several occasions. But I have to say that this food was excellent!! We arrived in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday, there were only two in our party. They treated us like royalty. The server was amazing and checked on us *just enough* - she saw to everything we needed. It is a family business and the daughter is the server, and the dad was doing the cooking. He also came out several times to check on us. They were both so kind and sweet and sincerely interested in making sure we were happy. We had the veggie combo, and I got kitfo in addition, because I love kitfo. He even brought out a small dish to make sure it was exactly the way I expected it to be before he finished preparing the whole serving. Extra injera on request (we ate almost every last bite!) and they did a whole coffee ceremony just for us. Epic! So totally worth seeking this place out!! I'll be back!!

This is the best Ethiopian food I have had in DC and a great value. We ordered the deluxe meat combo and everything was perfectly seasoned (plus we had plenty of leftovers!) The service was incredible too--we got sambusas on the house, and my glass of wine was literally filled to the brim! I will definitely be coming back.

I always love trying different Ethiopian places in DC and I recently heard about this location which had great reviews, but I was surprised to see it completely empty when I arrived. We were quickly greeted by the chef and a cat! We ordered the veggie platter and the beef tibs and got complimentary samosas which were very delicious. The veggie sides were really delicious and came with plenty of injera. The beef ribs were slightly overcooked and chewy, but still quite flavorful. Very friendly owners and staff!

My friend who lives in NY highly recommended this place and comes here every time she is in DC, so I had to try it. Not only is this the best ethiopian food I've ever had, but the owner is an amazing host. So warm and friendly! He remembered my friend even though she hadn't been here in a few months. We got the veggie combo and the mushroom tibs and I cannot recommend them enough. Spicy and tangy, and perfect for a chilly day. And more than enough food for two. I also recommend getting the ethiopian coffee, it comes in a beautiful pot with burning incense. It's a lovely way to round out the meal.

The vegan platter was phenomenal- super flavorful with so much variety which I loved. As for the beef, it was tender and seasoned well. Honestly, it was hard to choose which one was our favorite because everything tasted so good! And when we were running low on Injera (Ethiopian flatbread), our server gave us more. On top of the delicious food, the service was friendly and the inside was small and cozy (there's also outdoor seating too!) Overall, fantastic spot for Ethiopian food and I will definitely come back if I visit DC again.

Namely custom service and the unfortunate late discovery of hair in my food. Arrived for a late lunch and the restaurant was sparsely populated. I noticed outdoor seating and wanted to enjoy the sun. No one was seated out there and I found a spot. A server came out @5 minutes later and advise me that I couldn't sit there. She mentioned seating was for larger parties despite being midweek and After most lunch rushes. I was moved to another table. The view was fine and I ordered my lunch. The platter I ordered had beef tibs, vegetables and njeri. As a connoisseur of Ethiopian food, I was accustomed to having lentils included in the meal. I soon found out that that was not the case, and also that utensils was not given unless requested. The couple that had finally joined me on the patio requested utensils. I opted to follow traditional style and used the njeri as my utensils. The food had good flavor and was enjoying despite the lack of lentils until I came across a piece of hair. I immediately lost my appetite and brought to the attention of the person at checkout, as it appeared, you had to bring your bill to the Bar area to check out. The person was unapologetic and swore that no one's hair was exposed. I feel that was the way of them saying that it was my hair, which was farther from the truth. I was not seeking a discount and gladly paid my bill while pointing out the obvious about the extra bonus in my meal. Sadly, I was recommended by the workers at the Marriott where I was staying. Its proximity to the hotel and adjacent Washington Convention Center made it a great choice for lunch, and was happy for the referral. They spoke highly of this restaurant, and that made the experience worse as I was anticipating the goodness. Hopefully receive better treatment when they dine there.

I stumbled across Ethio Vegan, which I came to find out had just opened its doors this week. I haven't had Ethiopian food before, so I was excited to try something new. The staff were very welcoming, and the waitress who helped me went over their menu in great detail for me. Inside is very sleek and stylish, and I look forward to visiting at night to catch a game or relax in their lounge. As far as the food, the beef couldn't have been any more tender or well-seasoned. The thought of having leftovers for dinner later quickly evaporated, as I finished the beef, rice, and salad that came with it. The rice had a similar taste and texture to quinoa, even being long-grained. The only part that was a mission for me was the bread. I took one bite and realized it wasn't for me. This is absolutely a restaurant I'd come back to and recommend to anyone and everyone if they want authentic Ethiopian food and hospitality.
