We just enjoyed an amazing meal at Enatye this evening. We have lived here for 34 years and never thought to try it. Boy...was that a big mistake!! We started our meal with the vegetable Sambusa. The wrapper was perfectly crispy, not greasy and, while flaky, didn't fall apart. The dipping sauce that accompanied was a perfect spicy complement to the lentil filling. A great way to get your tastebuds ready for the main event! For our entree, we went with the Special Combo for two with beef and chicken/doro wot. We allowed our helpful waiter to select the vegetables, and he did a great job. We enjoyed the yellow peas, spicy lentils, cabbage, spinach, scooping it all up with the sour injera bread. The service is excellent and the music makes the meal complete! We will be back soon to try more of the menu. This restaurant is a Herndon gem. I would give six stars if I could. Don't be stupid, like us, and wait too long to try it!! Go now! read more

Silver Spring has no shortage of great Ethiopian restaurants, but I had Enatye in Herndon bookmarked for a while after hearing so many good things. When we finally found ourselves in the area, I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. We ordered the veggie combo, and it was flavorful and satisfying.What really made this place stand out, though, was the customer service. We ordered takeout, and after getting home about 40 minutes later, we realized part of our order was wrong. I called expecting the usual response--either that I should've checked the bag before leaving or that I'd need to drive back for a replacement. Instead, I got a genuine apology and an offer for a full refund. Since we still had food to eat, I didn't feel right accepting it. They insisted on making it up to us the next time we were in the area. True to their word, on our next visit they treated us to the same veggie combo on the house. You don't see that level of follow-through very often, and it really left an impression. That's how you earn loyal customers. Big shoutout to Emmanuel for taking such great care of us. Enatye is a true hidden gem, tucked away in the back of an industrial park. You'd never know it was there unless someone told you--or you were actively hunting for Ethiopian food. At first glance, I wasn't impressed ( yeah yeah judging a book by its cover... I know better) I was wrong. The food was very flavorful, generous, and downright satisfying. We started with the sambusas (meat and veggie). They were good, though a bit mild (personally for me), I still give the edge to an Indian samosa, but that's just me. The combo is absolutely the move. We shared a three-person platter with lamb, beef, and chicken tibs, plus a variety of vegetarian dishes (see photos). Everything came served on rolls of injera, the spongy Ethiopian flatbread. This is a hands-on meal. As in, you eat with your fingers. Yes... it was glorious. The presentation is classic Ethiopian style: a large platter lined with injera, topped with meats and vegetables spread out like they're feeding 50 million people. The trick is to tear off the injera under the food, not the extra rolls, because it soaks up all that flavorful gravy. It's harder than it sounds, but totally worth it. The main dishes were very flavorful. I was genuinely impressed by both the quantity and the depth of flavor across the entire meal. These are the happy surprises I live for. The sambusa with meat was pretty dry and a bit too hard/stale to bite into. The sauce was nice but the flavor was mainly just spicy. The injera was a cool concept. We got the combo for three people with beef, lamb, and chicken. The lentils were nice but the spinach was quite bland. The injera we got was quite cold but it was fun to pick up your food with it. The beef and lamb were my favorite but nothing spectacular. The flavors were pretty mild. The chicken does have bone--it would have been nice to have it removed. I think the experience was more fun than the actual food, but it was okay. Staff are super nice and it did have a steady flow of people. read more

Now to the details on how I got it to my location. I'm in town visiting and was taking an Uber ride from Reagan airport towards this restaurant. Where my hotel is close by at the time. Uber allows you to order the food and have it delivered as you're coming to your destination. This glorious place was on the list. I placed the order as I was probably about 30 minutes out for my hotel. You can see when the delivery driver gets to the restaurant and picks it up watch them bring it to your location all on the Uber app. This food feels fresh as me waiting there and picking it up myself. My first introduction to Ethiopian food was here and I was really pleased. I walked in and the restaurant smelled fantastic. The menu isn't overwhelming it didn't take very long to decide on the 5 item Vegetarian Combo. I ordered to go and the wait time was super quick. I have one word for you: kochkocha!!! If you like spicy, you have to come here. We always ask for this green chile sauce and most restaurants don't have it but we were in luck at Enatye! We ordered the 10 item vegan combo and every single item was flavorful and so delicious. I wish we had ordered the 100% teff injera because it would have been an even better option to soak up all of the sauces. Another special item they had was the mushroom dulet which I loved and highly recommend. There was also this interesting mustard sauce that tasted like horseradish/wasabi, which I have never tried before. I still preferred the kochkocha in comparison but it was awesome to have those options. The sambusa had good flavor but it could have been a little warmer. We can't wait to come back! read more

Enatye is located in a bit of a weird area, but it shouldn't deter you from coming. We got the combo for 4 and combo for 2 (gluten free). The gluten free injera is slightly more sour, but other than that there's no real difference. All of the food was delicious and they give you so much food we took a lot of it home. We're from the SF Bay Area and have an excellent mix of cuisines around us but for this trip we're making a point to try as much as we can that we can't get in our local area. While I would not categorize the dishes at Enatye as the absolute best, they are good enough to keep us returning. Some highlights of their menu include spicy misir wot, rich and comforting doro wot, and some more unusual veggie noshes like their mushroom dish. One minor gripe I have with the kitchen is a slight lack of consistency, but ultimately we have never encountered a bad meal here. Service is a highlight, as a crew of smiling gentlemen work the dining room and make you feel welcome. The space itself, while tidy, is a bit plain. Although the food here was worth a second visit the service will guarantee that I won't be back for a 3rd. As a black woman to receive micro aggressions from a black man is a bit off putting to say the least. I'm a very expressive person and received a comment about my attitude to which I was stunned because I was thrilled to return with my sister and had no reason to have an attitude at all. It really saddens me that this is the treatment I received from my own community while the host remained polite and respectful to the white patrons around me. I thought his attitude was a gimmick but after the second experience I find the host a bit condescending and rude. I love the food but that did something to my spirit. Mind you the restaurant is small and the table right next to us was a group of white customers who were close enough to overhear. To reinforce such toxic stereotypes and mistreatment of black women in a black establishment is shameful. Ambiance is homey, nothing special. Their vegetarian combination options 5, 7 or 10 items, provide filling, nutritious and delicious dishes. I've been wanting to try Enatye for a while now and finally got the chance to make it over for dinner. We ordered the combo for 2 (beef or lamb option) and it was plenty of food. We were stuffed after finishing and still had some injera bread left which we took home. I'll just say that this was some of the best Ethiopian food I've had in the DMV. Everything was extremely delicious and very flavorful. Not a single thing was lacking. Also there was a ton of meat! Service was good and the waiter even checked in with our table a few times to give us pointers on how to better enjoy the meal. He said use less of the bread and eat more of the spreads haha The tips were helpful to us as we are somewhat new to Ethiopian food. Either they can be very friendly in helping explain the menu or they can rush you and say that they pick for you. A nice little spot located in the back of a strip mall. There is parking available in front, but it can get crowded on the weekend. The menu is quite simple and easy to choose from. We ordered the following -Combo for one person (1 meat & 5 vegetarian options) $23 -5 items Vegetarian combo $17 -regular kitfo (beef tartar) $18 The prices were good for the amount of good we got. Service was okay, not terrible but not exceptional. The tables are very small considering how large their plates/trays are. Wow I'm embarrassed that I ever gave this place less than 5 stars. I've been here a few times in the last month and everything is so fire. The food comes out fairly quickly here. My husband and I ordered the Derek tibs and the 7 veggie combo and everything was soooo wonderful and so well seasoned/spiced. Derek tibs are definitely my favorite meat flavor. The veggies were fantastic as well. The 5 veggie combo probably would've sufficed, but I like having more variety and more veggies and the 7-veggie combo was perfect.
