Silver Spring has no shortage of great Ethiopian restaurants, but I had Enatye in Herndon bookmarked for a while after hearing so many good things. When we finally found ourselves in the area, I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. We ordered the veggie combo, and it was flavorful and satisfying.What really made this place stand out, though, was the customer service. We ordered takeout, and after getting home about 40 minutes later, we realized part of our order was wrong. I called expecting the usual response--either that I should've checked the bag before leaving or that I'd need to drive back for a replacement. Instead, I got a genuine apology and an offer for a full refund. Since we still had food to eat, I didn't feel right accepting it. They insisted on making it up to us the next time we were in the area. True to their word, on our next visit they treated us to the same veggie combo on the house. You don't see that level of follow-through very often, and it really left an impression. That's how you earn loyal customers. Big shoutout to Emmanuel for taking such great care of us. Enatye is a true hidden gem, tucked away in the back of an industrial park. You'd never know it was there unless someone told you--or you were actively hunting for Ethiopian food. At first glance, I wasn't impressed ( yeah yeah judging a book by its cover... I know better) I was wrong. The food was very flavorful, generous, and downright satisfying. We started with the sambusas (meat and veggie). They were good, though a bit mild (personally for me), I still give the edge to an Indian samosa, but that's just me. The combo is absolutely the move. We shared a three-person platter with lamb, beef, and chicken tibs, plus a variety of vegetarian dishes (see photos). Everything came served on rolls of injera, the spongy Ethiopian flatbread. This is a hands-on meal. As in, you eat with your fingers. Yes... it was glorious. The presentation is classic Ethiopian style: a large platter lined with injera, topped with meats and vegetables spread out like they're feeding 50 million people. The trick is to tear off the injera under the food, not the extra rolls, because it soaks up all that flavorful gravy. It's harder than it sounds, but totally worth it. The main dishes were very flavorful. I was genuinely impressed by both the quantity and the depth of flavor across the entire meal. These are the happy surprises I live for. Although the food here was worth a second visit the service will guarantee that I won't be back for a 3rd. As a black woman to receive micro aggressions from a black man is a bit off putting to say the least. I'm a very expressive person and received a comment about my attitude to which I was stunned because I was thrilled to return with my sister and had no reason to have an attitude at all. It really saddens me that this is the treatment I received from my own community while the host remained polite and respectful to the white patrons around me. I thought his attitude was a gimmick but after the second experience I find the host a bit condescending and rude. I love the food but that did something to my spirit. Mind you the restaurant is small and the table right next to us was a group of white customers who were close enough to overhear. To reinforce such toxic stereotypes and mistreatment of black women in a black establishment is shameful. Ambiance is homey, nothing special. The sambusa with meat was pretty dry and a bit too hard/stale to bite into. The sauce was nice but the flavor was mainly just spicy. The injera was a cool concept. We got the combo for three people with beef, lamb, and chicken. The lentils were nice but the spinach was quite bland. The injera we got was quite cold but it was fun to pick up your food with it. The beef and lamb were my favorite but nothing spectacular. The flavors were pretty mild. The chicken does have bone--it would have been nice to have it removed. My first introduction to Ethiopian food was here and I was really pleased. I walked in and the restaurant smelled fantastic. The menu isn't overwhelming it didn't take very long to decide on the 5 item Vegetarian Combo. I ordered to go and the wait time was super quick. I have one word for you: kochkocha!!! If you like spicy, you have to come here. We always ask for this green chile sauce and most restaurants don't have it but we were in luck at Enatye! We ordered the 10 item vegan combo and every single item was flavorful and so delicious. I wish we had ordered the 100% teff injera because it would have been an even better option to soak up all of the sauces. Another special item they had was the mushroom dulet which I loved and highly recommend. There was also this interesting mustard sauce that tasted like horseradish/wasabi, which I have never tried before. Now to the details on how I got it to my location. I'm in town visiting and was taking an Uber ride from Reagan airport towards this restaurant. Where my hotel is close by at the time. Uber allows you to order the food and have it delivered as you're coming to your destination. This glorious place was on the list. I placed the order as I was probably about 30 minutes out for my hotel. You can see when the delivery driver gets to the restaurant and picks it up watch them bring it to your location all on the Uber app. This food feels fresh as me waiting there and picking it up myself. Since my initial review of Enatye 7 years ago, my girlfriend became my wife and we have moved to the area. We find ourselves lucky that Enatye is a very quick drive from our home and that we can satisfy our craving for wholesome Ethiopian dishes on a relative whim. Since our initial meal here, we have dined at other Ethiopian spots across the metro area and the country. While I would not categorize the dishes at Enatye as the absolute best, they are good enough to keep us returning. Some highlights of their menu include spicy misir wot, rich and comforting doro wot, and some more unusual veggie noshes like their mushroom dish. One minor gripe I have with the kitchen is a slight lack of consistency, but ultimately we have never encountered a bad meal here. Service is a highlight, as a crew of smiling gentlemen work the dining room and make you feel welcome. The space itself, while tidy, is a bit plain. Yet, that does not stop patrons from consistently crowding the restaurant even on weekdays. Visiting this place is a no brainer if you are in the area and an Ethiopian food enthusiast. read more

We were stuffed after finishing and still had some injera bread left which we took home. I'll just say that this was some of the best Ethiopian food I've had in the DMV. Everything was extremely delicious and very flavorful. Not a single thing was lacking. Also there was a ton of meat! Service was good and the waiter even checked in with our table a few times to give us pointers on how to better enjoy the meal. My friend and I were in the area at a skate shop. I was so hungry and began looking for places near. I saw Enatye and kept that in mind. I asked the employee at the skate shop for recommendations and she said Enatye. I took that as a sign so that's where we ended up. The service was nice! The owner joked with us. A nice little spot located in the back of a strip mall. There is parking available in front, but it can get crowded on the weekend. The menu is quite simple and easy to choose from. We ordered the following -Combo for one person (1 meat & 5 vegetarian options) $23 -5 items Vegetarian combo $17 -regular kitfo (beef tartar) $18 The prices were good for the amount of good we got. My husband and I ordered the Derek tibs and the 7 veggie combo and everything was soooo wonderful and so well seasoned/spiced. Derek tibs are definitely my favorite meat flavor. The veggies were fantastic as well. The 5 veggie combo probably would've sufficed, but I like having more variety and more veggies and the 7-veggie combo was perfect. Food/Drink - Holy cow, this was the best meal I had while visiting the DC area, and my companions and I were just blown away. Lamb and chicken and beef and veggies. Everything was superb. Washed down with some refreshing Ethiopian beers. Price - For the quality you get, this was really amazing. Dinner for three people, two beers each, plus tip, coming out to about $120. GOOD DEAL! Service - BEYOND BELIEF. We were at a loss for what to order, but our waiter came to the rescue, and told us to trust him as he made an order choice for us. And this was the best decision we could have made, as he steered us to some really excellent dishes. He was just had that friendly magic touch with the customers.
