Chicken Tikka Masala was invented at a restaurant called Shish Mahal in Glasgow, Scotland (of all…read moreplaces!) by a Mister Ali, and the original dish here was unlike any other version I've tried. Chopped pieces of red chicken tikka were enveloped in a creamy tomato sauce and mixed with chopped peppers, creating a tantalizingly sweet, savory, tangy, spicy, milky curry. In addition to the famous CTM, I also tried the Palak Paneer, a flavorful but greasy pureed spinach curry with cubes of paneer; and the Shish Tandoori Mixed Platter, a sizzling iron plate of onions, tandoori chicken, chicken tikka, lamb tikka, lamb seekh kebab, and a prawn, each of which was marinated with yogurt and spices before being cooked in a tandoori oven. The entree came with sides of saffron rice, nan bread, a mild house curry sauce, and a salad of pickled red cabbage, red onions, cucumber, and tomato. Overall, the food here was tasty but definitely had an anglicized flavor profile. The service was friendly though a bit awkward, and the prices were expensive for the quality of food.

Well it got to dinner time and curry seemed like a good idea so off we set. There is a wide selection on the menu but I really fancied paneer so that was an obvious starter choice. Then I opted for the chicken jaipuiri with a nan. Oh and a mint lassi which was delicious! Quick service and by the end we were stuffed. Only slight gripe was the difficulty we had in getting the bill at the end but other than that everything was tasty and enjoyable. It was busy when we were in but the food was quick to the table. Just as well as I was starving! I'll add this to the list of good curry venues in Glasgow, and I'll definitely have to get off the bus again to come back!

They do a number of speciality dishes but I opted for the chicken tikka hallumi, very nice and reasonably priced, the good thing is they also have a desk for takeaway food if your just looking to get a carry out. A note though is that they don't serve alcohol in here so don't do what I did and go expecting to have a pint with your dinner - this is the only reason I'll give it 4 stars as it won't cater to everyone, but in terms of the food I can't fault it.

I was enticed to Lasani's by Hector Curry-Heute and his excellent blog here…read more(http://curry-heute.com/category/scotland/glasgow/glasgows-top-rated/lasani-grill/) and I was not disappointed. After have a beer in Sweeney's on the Park and then at the Allison Arms, Julie and I were getting pretty hungry and I really fancied a curry after being on a wedding diet the past few weeks. Side-stepping the standard fayre of Indian restaurants I consulted Glasgow's favourite curry blog and found that two of the best rated curry houses were within a few minutes walk. Tonight we chose Lasani, next time we may try Yadgar (although Lasani was so good it's difficult not to return!). Lasani looks like a standard curry/kebab house, but when you turn right there's a wee seating area for about 25 people which means you can enjoy eating out at takeaway prices. We started with a chicken sheesh kebab for £2.50 between us. This got us FOUR kebab sticks and a huge plate of salad (the olives weren't great but everything else was). This was a little spicy for Julie so that meant more for me! To follow we had a couple of the Desi style curries each (I had lamb chop Karahi which was epic, super tender lamb), a pilau rice, nan bread (£1!!!) and a couple of chapatis. This was too much but we did a great job to try and finish it off and got a pretty big doggy bag to take home. The mains took a while to come but this is because it was cooked to order. Classy. There's obviously no alcohol for sale here so we had a couple of cans of pop for 70p a throw. Stick that in your pipe rip-off merchants! What was the total bill for two people completely stuffed with authentic and incredible Pakistani cuisine? Just £19. This included the popadoms too and enough food for another meal. Don't expect fine dining, but do expect fine food.

After having the meal my partner said ( this is not what l ordered you) and there was me thinking that she ordered it as a surprise for me.

Service always comes with a smile and the waiting staff were really helpful explaining some of the unfamiliar dishes. The food is traditional, authentic and vegetarian and hasn't got that restaurant taste to it. What I mean by that is that it tastes like something you'd make at home (if you were any good at cooking curries that is), which, for me is the best!! Everyday the Dhaal and Sabji's change which ensures the food is fresh and seasonal. The portion sizes are huge and for the money its outstanding value. The sign however is pretty prominent on street level which works well. This way you can go from Bhoona to pakora, to dumpling desert thing, or even the opposite way around. Oh and do not be in dismay, there are spiced onions and popadoms to accompany every course. A bit of advice, don't fill your plate up too much, and return as often as you like without shame.
