When I first stumbled across this salon it was out of pure convenience. I found it inside of Agincourt mall conveniently right by my house where I run some of my errands and a friend had recommended it. The downside to this salon is the wait time. Appointment or not the wait times can get annoying. They do their best to accommodate walk-ins alongside their appointments but that's just how busy it is. I would recommend going in the morning or mid-day. I usually have their shellac manicures and regular pedicures done. They've got a large selection of nail polish and their nail technicians are experienced and efficient with the flow of people filing through. First time here today. Went for a pedicure but was convinced to get a manicure with shellac. Fanny took good care of me, she knew I had somewhere to go in an hour and was able to finish my mani pedi in that time. She did a great job with my shellac. She was able to see what kind of style I like and gave me options. Most of the time I rate my experiences based on the massage I receive. They don't really massage you however I can't say it is always like this as it was my first time and she was trying to meet the time deadline of an hour. Fanny is cute and kind! I absolutely love this place and was reluctant to write this review because as it is growing in popularity, it is becoming harder to book an appointment :). I have been coming here for years on and off, and I always return because of the high quality service. All of the nail techs are very skilled and do a fabulous job. They are a little more expensive then other places ($25 regular pedicure and $30 for shellac manicure), but you really do get what you pay for, and they are worth it. They also have a great selection of OPI nail polishes and always have the latest colours. They use new nail buffs on each client and are very clean. I would suggest making an appointment as they are usually busy. They recently went under a renovation and now offer hair salon services along with their regular nail and waxing services. I have only ever had manicures and pedicures from here, but I'm sure their other services are great too. If you want downtown quality service, but live in Scarborough, come here. I was introduced to this salon by a co-worker, and decided to check it out as it was conveniently located close to home. The salon itself was clean and organized, one half being a hair salon and the other half for nails/spa. Made an appointment with Vivian (as recommended) for a shellac manicure and regular pedicure. Although I arrived fairly early prior to the appointment, I was pressured and rushed into choosing my polishes. She stood beside me as I flipped through the swatches which was uncomfortable. Finally settled for OPI's "Dont Bossa Nova Me Around" since it was a "popular colour" as she suggested. Despite my feeling of being rushed, she was very thorough with her work and was satisfied with her attention to detail. Made an appointment four weeks later for the same services. I did not specify anyone in particular for this appointment as I wanted to give an unbiased review. Joyce helped me out the second time around and was very attentive, although her work was not as thorough. I'm usually not finicky with my nails but my thumbnail wasn't as smooth and did not cure properly. Overall fairly impressed with the salon. Rated 3 stars because the quality of your nails really depend on the person doing it. I arrived at least 10-15 minutes for both appointments, and was rushed into choosing my polishes both times. Although I can't speak for walk-ins, there were plenty of staff working both Saturday afternoons visited and customers were accommodated right away. Tried this place years ago and didn't have the best memory of it. Thought I'd try again and do shellac this time and regretted it. It is more expensive than most places (even some downtown salons). The employee made a comment during the session saying that she couldn't wait to go home. I understand that sentiment when it comes to working sometimes, especially near the end of the day, but probably not the best time to express that AND actually demonstrate it by doing such a rush job. She got nail polish on my skin several times, most of them were fixed, but two occasions were so bad that she had to clip my skin off after the UV light dried it. My nails were also cut/filed to noticeably different lengths and/or shapes, especially the pinky fingers. Only plus side is that I adored the colour. read more

Great deal! My test for every new spa I try is always a French style manicure and pedicure. Chances are if they can't paint a straight line, they probably don't have an eye for detail and perfection that I'm expecting. Shiny Nails did a good job. It's not bad since you aren't paying premium. $35 for both manicure and pedicure (no surcharge for French style - that's a bonus). My French pedicure was great. It's been 3+ weeks now and it's still intact. I think my nails are growing a little long now, so I'll have to cut them, but they haven't chipped. I put my feet through a lot too... especially with dragon boat, running and gym... Because the shape of my fingers (they aren't all uniform), it's tough for the aesthetician to do a nice job on the French manicure. They suggested I went with a solid colour for my hands instead. I'm glad they did, otherwise I probably would have been very frustrated with the results. I like that my aesthetician took the initiative to make suggestions that suits me rather than try to wing it, just to please me. My manicure didn't last as long as my pedicure did, but that is because I'm banging my nails at the keyboard all day and scraping them against the side of a boat several times a week. Regardless, good job! I wish the girl had spent a little more time soaking my feet, but I couldn't blame her since it started to get busy at the spa. I wouldn't suggest coming at peak hours (e.g. after work on a Thursday). The area where you dry off your nails got a little snug, but I had a good time chatting with other ladies. If you are here just for your nails and don't want to shell out too much, this is the place for you! Don't expect a massage... but I my feet needs it so badly especially in the summer. read more

This salon is terribly pricey. It has been my go to salon for shellac manicures for about 6 months because its close to my house. Im not gonna lie, the results they give yoi are great but I wish they had loyalty cards for frequent customers. The first couple of times were fine, everything went well but then I noticed an increase of price. I went to get a shellac manicure as usual, so I usually ask for a glittery effect only on one of the nails (they usually do it for free). The lady says its 4 dollars for the nail. Its unbelievable. I shouldn't have to pay 4 dollars for one glittery nail!! On the other hand, I get my eyebrows threaded here, AND IVE BEEN NOTHING BUT SATISFIED. The eyebrow lady is an amazing person, very patient and very sweet. Totally would recommend getting a wax/threading at this place. read more

This place is pretty hit or miss for me. Not the greatest but I still go back from time to time as I am still looking for that perfect nail salon.... Prices aren't super high but are not cheap. Costs me about $70 for a shellac mani and regular pedi. It's that fine line where I feel like I should just spend a bit more and just go to an upscale salon with better service and quality OR step down and find a cheaper place with mediocre quality, as shiny spa is not always consistent. There are some girls who have done my nails great. I have had shellac last up to three weeks no chips. But last few times it didn't even make it to the two week mark. I presume it is due to the quality of the application rather than the product as I use the same brand each time. Colour selection is pretty good. Pedicures are pretty good as they get the nail bed really clean, and generally a great polish application. However, on my most recent visit she 'grated' my heels WAY too much and I woke up the next day with raw sore super red feet - not great considering I was leaving for a trip that involved lots of hiking. Some nice girls, but in general staff are rude. No smiles, unfriendly, no attempts at small talk, easily annoyed when you need to take some time to pick a colour or when you make a request/ask a question. Male owner at the front desk is especially uninviting. Last time a regular long-time customer (I overheard) was nicely telling him that the prices were getting too high and that she may have to consider going elsewhere even though she didn't want to have to do that. Definitely won't be going back again. I got a mani-pedi. Requested shellac on my toes and full set on my hands with acrylic. The pedi was done nicely but I had to wait half an hour to get my Mani done. The nail tech who did my fingernails told me the salon doesnt do acrylic. I was unaware that they were doing gel nails (I had never gotten gel nails before) and then without consulting me also applied shellac. Initially I was told one price and charge way more and the prices didn't add up in the end. I was charged $130 which I feel is WAY too much and I was taken advantage of. Will never go back here as they ripped me off, and I recommend getting prices layed out clearly if you aren't experienced with nails like I was! read more

Terrible experience! I paid over $200 for a Japanese straightening that didn't work. Then I went back and was offered a keratin straightening treatment and that didn't work either. When the man was putting the treatment in my hair he was talking it up so much but when it didn't work he blamed the "cheap" brand the salon buys. My hair is thin with big waves/soft curls so I can't understand why neither treatments work on my hair, they didn't have an explanation either. After 2 failed attempts they would not give me my money back. My hair is still wavy, feels damaged, and with all the fine tooth combing the man did, super thin. Please don't waste your money here. I have been going to Shiny Spa religiously for about three years. I thought it was great when I first started going. They always had the newest colors available and did a lot of updates to the spa. The past few times I have not been very pleased with the work but especially the last time. I get gel refills every 4-5 weeks. This time the gel chipped off my thumb nail and the shellac chipped off another nail after only a week. Since it had only been a week I went in to have it fixed. I was incredibly disappointed when I had to pay to have them fix their poor work. Needless to say I will be finding an new nail salon. I've probably spent over $500 there and this is the treatment I get!!!! Terrible!!! read more

I have had regular mani/pedis, shellac and french done here and all have been great. Don't like this place at all. I used to come here along time ago before they renovated and they were much better, service wise and quality. They seemed to have better girls. I also think it's when the wife was running the place, don't see her much anymore. Only see the guy, he sucks at customer service and what's going on with the girls. Most of the one left and some new ones just don't know what their doing. Also HATE the fact they want to push their shellac products so much that it is now apparently mandatory to have shellac of your getting bio gel/refills..... yes MANDATORY like WTF???!! I've never had my nails there but got my eyebrows done when I'm in a rush. I've never been disappointed. They are always fast, professional and precise. I decided to take it up a notch and get a brazilian and now it's the only place I go - I left my previous go-to salon after 10+ years because this place is THAT good. They are gentle yet quick with the wax so it's not too uncomfortable and they are very professional (I see Eva). More importantly, they take the time to be sanitary with their wax. They don't double dip! I will say the new woman they have for waxing (when I don't request someone for eyebrows) isn't as impressive. One time she only waxed half my lip and thought she was done - um, hello? Overall, great for waxing. read more

I just had such a disappointing experience after over 2 years of getting my nails done at this 'Spa'. I'm usually in every 3-4 weeks for a manicure or a shellac polish change. This past Tuesday (July 3rd 2018, 6pm), I came in and had my nails painted with Taupe-less by OPI, it's a color I get frequently. By Thursday I noticed that the tips of my nails were still the right colour but the rest of my nail on all of my fingers had turned this muddy brown/beige colour. I called and explained what was happening over the phone and whoever I spoke with said no problem, come in and we'll fix it. Great! I went in and the woman at the front desk took a look at my nails and told me 'no problem, I'll take the top layer of the shellac off and just repaint it with the same colour'. I explained that I didn't want the same colour because I was worried it would change again and the woman got visibly irritated with me and told me she didn't want to take it all off and have to replace it because it would take too long and 'it wasn't their fault'. She also told me it was impossible that Taupe-less was the nail colour that changed and that I must have it wrong because it's never done that before. I'm a regular customer, I tip well, and I'm not one to complain or speak up about these things but my nails were literally multiple colours! I finally asked her to just please just take the shellac off and visibly frustrated, she got very rough with taking my shellac off with the sanding machine tool they use to the point where it was burning. Not once during this process did anyone apologize, try to figure out what had happened or even seem like they cared to resolve the problem, and to make matters worse they were incredibly rude about it. I will not be returning and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have been to plenty nail salons and this one has been bby far the best. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because it really depends who you see. When I first came here, SANDY did my gel nails. I've seen other girls here but SANDY is the best . She really takes her time to make sure the nails are perfect. She listens to what you want and is easy going. When she makes a mistake on the nails, she is quick to fix it. I never had to tell her to re do something because she s always on top of that (she barely makes any mistakes). It seems as though she has a passion for nails and this is why I always book to see her. She does not dissapoint! She talks but not so much (which I like cause I come here to relax, but don't get me wrong, I will have conversations w her) BOOK SANDY!! THIS review is so overdue... I went to this place today for a face wax as my regular person is away. I was informed beforehand that they don't do threading, only waxing. I thought fine, I can live with that (I usually get a combination done). Before getting started, I informed the aesthetician that I have sensitive skin and she would have to work with small patches at a time. She said: don't worry, I've been doing this for 10 years and I don't want to burn your skin either. I asked her to go slow again when I felt her pulling up large expanses of the cloth strips, which is exactly what I told her not to do. When I was done, I could feel my skin burning up, the way it does when it's a poorly done wax job. I paid and left. A few minutes later in the car, I could see pink burn patches around my mouth when I looked in the mirror. I went back and told the owner (who cashed me out): I've been getting face waxes for 13 years and this is not acceptable. I told your employee I have sensitive skin and specifically instructed her to be gentle and she said she knows what she's doing. I pointed out the burn patches and told him I want my money back (little comfort for having to deal with my face skin peeling off for the next week, but I wanted to make a point). What does he say? Yes your skin looks a little red. We've not had any complaints before. If it burns, come back tomorrow. I said: it is going to burn, I know how this works. It'll turn dark and then peel off and this is my face! All he says is he can't deal with the money issue now so come back on Monday (they are not even open "tomorrow", so there you have it). I won't be coming back here for a face wax. It's been insult on top of injury dealing with this. And know that even if you have a legitimate concern with the services provided, don't bother taking it up with the owner. It's about money over all else. read more

I have always gone to much higher end salons, but was in a jam and happened to be driving in the area.They did such a good job with gel overlay and polish that I now only go there even if its a bit of a drive for me. Polish tends to wear off ( 1 month + I can let it go) have never had chipping or peeling . Super happy I tend to ask for Lena she is super fast and now knows how I like it done. read more

I live in the area and I've been going to Shiny Spa to get my nails done for many many years. However, their attitudes and standards have decreased drastically. It's disheartening because they were once my go-to spot to get my nails done and relax. After personal bad experiences and witnessing others' bad experiences, I now REFUSE to give them my business. They have absolutely no respect for their clients. Their attitudes are horrendous and they, quite frankly, are not good at what they do. If you choose to speak up for yourself when you notice they aren't doing what you requested, be prepared for an argument because their customer service needs A LOT of work. The renovations they made about a year ago were a waste of money because they absolutely lost their touch. To conclude, this place is absolutely dreadful. Absolutely terrible. Not talking about the outcome of my nails but the owner/employees. They all come up with random prices to charge everytime. The first time I went it was $5 extra for length, second time same length but instead $5 extra for design, so how come this time not for length as well? It also ended up being more expensive the 2nd time (even though it was a refill of my original nails) than the first time with the full set. Third time I went for gel nails it was $45, and $5 extra for length, meanwhile my sister had the same length on but wasn't charged extra. Not to mention the 45 minutes wait even with a scheduled appointment. My total with tax (paid in cash) was 56.50. My nails broke so easily after doing them here so I came for the fourth time for a refill on two broken nails. My appointment was for 5:30 I got there by 5:25, meanwhile another woman came in for a 5:30 appointment after me, waited a few minutes and got a lady, meanwhile I ended up waiting half an hour even though I got there first. Refills are supposedly charged as 3$, therefore I expected a 6$ charge but my total was 14$, paid in cash but no tax this time? Although where does the 8 extra dollars come from? I asked and the owner said "long length" meanwhile usually I get charged 5 extra dollars for length for 10 nails... meaning 0.50$ per nail. But today was $4 extra per nail because of the length? Where does that number come from? The employees all discuss between themselves if they'll get away with it or not and make up a high number that isn't anywhere near the original price. Furthermore, Vivian (the nail lady) made my two new nails nowhere near the same shape as the original nails. It came out thick and ugly. I asked her if she could make it more thin and she just said my nail bed won't allow it, which made no sense as originally the other nail lady made them a better shape, I believe vivian simply wanted to get finish me quick. They're not welcoming, greeting, don't talk, charge crazy prices (usually $50 for gel/acrylics) yet they also want a tip? My opinion is that they took advantage of my age and nice attitude, although I wanted to walk out without paying for the extra charges plenty of times. When I go somewhere for service i'm fine with paying a price that was said to me, but when I have evidence of prices being charged for other people differently than for me, that's a bad way of doing business. Will not be coming back as their random extra charges for things like nail length (which makes no difference), 7$ refill for each nail which was supposed to be $3, and sometimes charging with tax (even while paying with cash) and sometimes not in tax makes no sense.
