It was cool because you actually felt alone in nature for once at a waterfall. You can also take the little trails up from the walkway to get onto the old railroad bridge which is now a snowmobile bridge and you can see good views as in my pictures that are shown. There is a nice walkway and the catwalk over to the falls under an old railroad bridge. Go ofc the right where the trail is and carefully climb down to the water. If you just go down the cat walk and that is it you won't be able to see you too much. It's important to navigate down but if you have physical limitations or any worries about climbing down the dirt hill you should not attempt it.

This was such a nice surprise!…read more For being right off the highway, I wasn't expecting much, but this ended up being one of the funner waterfalls in the U.P. It had a steep walkway down the mountain that is a fun workout to get down to, then back up, and you can get a great view of the bridge and waterfalls from down there. If you walk up only twenty feet or so from the main pathway, you end up on the bridge overlooking the falls-both great sites.

The Iron Ore Heritage Trail (IOHT) does not disappoint. With equal parts of nature and history, it's a great destination for walkers, riders, joggers, kids and families. While not completely paved, the crushed aggregate is easily navigated on my city bike. I went out yesterday after a night of rain and the path was in great shape (surprise!). Folks in the area are very proud of this trail and rightfully so. It's beautiful and fun, a treasure for all ages to enjoy.

The trails (which are basically the old railways that were used to move ore to the kilns along the lake) are now used for recreation such as hiking and biking. Along Lake Superior it passes through many parks and beaches with amazing views. There are also places to eat, shop or have a drink along the trail (at least in Marquette). I have only been on the trails in Marquette, which is a small portion of the 47 miles, but according to the information available online or at most touristy spots, there are plenty on other sights, foods and history to take in along the rest of the trail. This is where the Au Train River meets up with Lake Superior. The water temp of the river is usually a bit warmer than the lake, but on a hot day it all feels good. I recommend wearing water shoes, as there was a fair amount of sticks in the sandy path to the water. We saw a few kids stupidly leaping into the river from the bridge, which has lots of traffic. Please don't do this, as the water isn't really deep enough for that. You'll crush yo' skull, man.

The bathroom is cleaner than most rest bathrooms are, you can tell they try to maintain it well. This is a lovely and new roadside park in Marquette along Lakeshore Boulevard, as you make your way…read moretoward Presque Isle Park. Here you'll find a surfaced parking lot, grills, picnic benches, a small shelter and public restrooms. If you want to make your way to the beach and the waters of Lake Superior, walk down one of two designated boardwalks to avoid stepping on the protected beach grass. Lakeshore Boulevard has a largely rocky shore, but this is a great stop to dip your toes in the sand or enjoy a picnic lunch like I did.
