I did hypnotherapy in the past and had great results. Shirley's online hypnotherapy session didn't work for me at all, as I was never hypnotized and felt ashamed to say anything. Shirley's voice changes when she is supposedly "in the process of hypnotizing you", and to me, that was very distracting, and I couldn't relax at all. The audio file she sent me with the recording of my sessions - I couldn't listen to it due to her voice and didn't know how to tell her. With all that, I was willing to give her a second chance, but unfortunately, I had to cancel the session at the last minute. Only to learn later that the cancelation policy is ridiculous - Initially she told me that I needed a 3-session package for $990. I only had one session. According to Shirley, I also missed the first session due to miscommunication. I didn't know we were supposed to meet that day. In fact, I was in an airport when she texted me - and I was very apologetic, but Shirly felt that although "everyone gets a one-time break," I still "left her stranded" - the exact word she used. The second time I canceled last minute due to serious reasons. However, I was not the only one canceling last minute - Shirley also canceled precisely when the session was supposed to start but that was fine... who was going to have her account for that? Long story short, Shirley said she would give me one more session "as a gift" (which is ridiculous when you spend close to $1,000 and you have only 1 session), and she was expecting me to pay again $330 for my third session. To me, Shirley's practice and approach are just another example of what is wrong with the world. Maybe her practice helped others, but it didn't help me in my first session, and I cannot use the recording, and yes, I canceled last minute, but so did she. I was very understanding when she canceled, and although I rushed home that day to make the session, she never thought that my time was important, even though I never told her that she "left me stranded". Shirley lacks empathy and is very set on making money, and that cancelation policy which I never read when I gave her my credit card, is great business for her. I am sure Shirley will write back a long explanation of how she is right as she has already put a lot of effort into constantly telling me how wrong I am. If Shirley had spent more time being truly compassionate and not focussing so much on being an agile businesswoman who makes money out of cancelation fees, I would have never written this about her practice. At the end of the day I wanted my money back because her practice didn't work for me. In fact, this whole experience was probably one of the worst things I experienced in a very long time. I went to Shirly because of debilitating anxiety, depression, and a general feeling of discontent or being "stuck". I call it my mid life crisis. From the first time I met Shirly, I saw immediate improvement. She really changed my life, and quickly. I am more able to overcome my anxiety, my depression is gone, and I have become motivated to take action in my life for the first time in years. Shirly was the most awesome therapist. She was extremely helpful in getting me to understand my goals post divorce. Her hypnotherapy sessions were more helpful than I could have imagined. It was my first time being put under and she alleviated my fears and patiently explained each step of the process. When I came out, I was invigorated and energized for days. The tapes she made after each session have made my days clearer and more meaningful. I feel calm and relaxed to navigate through my thoughts. Shirly is nothing short of a miracle worker. Being a good listener is an understatement. I used her services when I was diagnosed with Endometrial Cancer. Just want to do an update on my "adventure with Shirley"! It has been great. We started with a hypnotherapy tape that I used to help ease pain in my right hip for several months before I was able to have hip replacement surgery. There is no question in my mind that the tape helped! I would listen to it each night and usually fall asleep before I reached the end of the tape (though I'm sure subliminally I was still hearing her words)! Then we moved a couple of weeks ago to phase 2. She made a pre-op/post -op tape to listen to the week before surgery and since. They have definitely helped. I am now day 10 from the hip replacement. I am doing my physical therapy and down to 3 pain meds a day. I can feel myself getting stronger every day!
